Hi (alive) Spoonbills! What’s y’all’s stories? What made y’all wanna join the Gracers? Why did your deceased comrades wanna join? Harwam I heard you’re the temp! What’s that about? (Also Harwam feel free to gossip about your teammates here, Pearl wasn’t interested in that but I for one am!!!)

Rivera: I don’t want to tell you. ….. I joined because there’s no other place in this world for monsters like me. And the best thing I can do with however long I have left is to take out as many other monsters as I can first.  The others joined because they’re stupid. 

Ceasless Void: My existence is but a curse, that brings death to those who are close to me. It is only fitting that my life be locked to an occupation that makes death it’s trade. I take solace in the fact that the deaths we inflict are upon those deserving of it.  Our late leader joined for glory in combat. Our current leader Harwam was forced to join to curtail his desire for mischief. The swiftly slain Iessic joined for material gain. Young Rivera joined because she seeks death: her own and that of others in equal parts.

 

Harwam: Gossip? Don’t mind if I do! And since my grumpy little associates decided to be as vague as possible with their replies, I’ll fill in the missing details on my teammates origins as well!

First, an introduction! The name’s his grace sir Harwam Killmer the fourth, or “Harwam” to the less verbose. Fabulous, brilliant, and dare I say stunning cleric in service of our knowing mistress Ioun.  I have been temporary assigned to this Gracer team as disciplinary action after I… set a few things on fire. I think this positively unjust, as I believe our knowing mistress wishes us all to engage in the activities that we enjoy most in life. And I happen to enjoy lighting things on fire!  And it’s not like anyone got hurt! This has just been one big overreaction. So I’m essentially just as much a prisoner in the Gracers as anyone else! Just one with a much shorter sentence, of course. No one joins the Gracers willingly. All of the people who do are crazy.

Case in point, my wonderful teammates:

Rincseps is some second or third son of some rich family, who wasn’t set to inherit anything, so he got sent off to become a knight for the church. This sort of thing happens all the time. But out of any position he could have worked as a paladin, he chose to lead a team of Gracers. Why? because he believes that the best way to show devotion to our knowing mistress is to dedicate yourself to mastering one skill you value above all else.  And the skill good ol’ Rincseps decided to master was combat.  So his brilliant plan was to try and find stronger and stronger things to fight until he can say he has mastered the art of combat. And so he figured joining the monster hunting section of the chruch was the best way to do that.  I mean, I love my goddess as much as the next priest but that’s just way too intense.  I guess he probably went out the way he wanted to though.

You’d think that Iessic might be the only sane one, because he joined the Gracers for money. He used to be a member of the city watch, who ended up working with a Gracer team after some the watch fell victim to a series of monster attacks. When he found out how much Gracers get paid, he ditched his job to become a monster hunter immediately.  But the thing is, despite his seemingly more normal motivation, he’s still crazy, because no amount of money is worth willingly fighting monsters for a living. Guess he learned that the hard way.  Me and Rincseps had a bet going on whether or not he was going to survive this mission. And I totally won. … Guess I’m never getting that 3 gold though.

Ceasless Void’s is somehow….. directly linked to the Shadowfell, like there’s a miniature portal connected to their soul? I don’t know how it works, I’m not a wizard.  And this means they constantly exude low levels of death energy? Or something? Which is fine on a day to day basis, but if you get exposed to it over a long period of time it can leade to health problems. They still sleep a ways away form us when we camp, just to be safe.  But apparently their family started getting really sick because they’d lived with them their whole life, so they volunteered to get a church mark and join the Gracers. Less extreme things you could have done there, buddy. You could have just become, like, a traveling salesperson. Though for someone who talks about their existence being a curse and how all they can bring into the world is death, they’re pretty fine otherwise! 

Rivera got possessed by some sort of shadow monster and it used her body to kill her family. And most of the Gracer team that was sent to subdue her.  The church was willing to take her in as an acolyte afterword, or send her off to some rich family member she had. But she’s pretty set on finding the thing that possessed her (or die in a heroic sacrifice, whatever happens first), so she convinced whoever was in charge to add her to a Gracer team. And some part of whatever the shadow monster did to turn her into a killing machine stayed, because she’s way stronger and faster than a normal teenager girl. So it’s not like she’s underqualified for the position. I know, I know. Obviously what happened to her is horrible and she shouldn’t be doing this and if it keeps going it’s only going to end badly for her. You know who else knows that? Everyone else! And none of their compassion and care seems to have helped her with anything! I’m pretty sure it just makes her angrier!  I’m not so full of myself that I think I can somehow make her better when so many more well-meaning people have failed. So, I figure the best thing I can do is treat her the same way I treat everyone else. Be annoying to them. 

And there you have it! The secrets of the Spoonbills revealed to your ears and your ears alone! Next time, you better be the one to share some hot gossip!

You can’t catch a break, can you? Even the mission where you’re supposed to safeguard a town for a few days ends up bringing up something from the past.  Was there anything you did like about the mission to Oltira? Any people you enjoyed meeting?

It seems that we just can't, aren't we?

...it's funny, that I wouldn't call myself an optimistic person, yet every time I hope that it's gonna be something better, or a little easier. The missions, or everything between us, the Larks I mean... and just. In general I suppose.

...I suppose I couldn't complain that much. It's much better between me and Elle, at least, I hope. (Even though im just adding to their problems and worries), and... well it's better to know what's going on with Grace now.

...maybe I would've liked Oltira and people that we met much more, if not everything that we needed to dealt with here, so unfortunately I couldn't name anything that I particularly liked here. At least we managed to help some people here, somehow, so. That's the positive part I suppose...

Mortryck what is your opinion on sweet tea? Personally I’m not a fan.

I cannot say that I have partaken in in this… “sweet tea” before, so I would be somewhat at a disadvantage at forming any concrete option on the matter.

Personally I like my drinks a bit stronger that what this has to offer. I’m more of a whiskey man myself.

Hello Pearl,

You met with a lot of people during your latest mission! So many stories, so many issues! It’s a lot to think about… Of all the people you met in Oltira, who would you say was your favourite?

Hm. Yes, it is quite a bit of information to take in. It would be quite hard to determine a “favorite”, though. It was useful to meet Ivonne, I suppose; she could potentially gather intel on Mortryck. She also seemed nice. Sorin was interesting, though he doesn’t seem to have the most rigid morals. This is somewhat concerning, considering he is a priest in a particularly vile sect of the church, though I should not be so surprised considering its leadership. Miawynn was a very charming person to be around, actually. I quite enjoyed their company, as well as their music. He may be my favorite out of all the residents of Oltira. I’m not sure if the Arcanight counts, but she would be my top pick above Miawynn, for obvious reasons. Apologies Miawynn, ehe.

I hope the other denizens are doing well, even the ones who did not stay in the end.
