The Bear Season 4
Finally starting season 4 of the bear. I am 5 minutes into the opening episode.
I think the thing that causes the most conflict in Mike and Carmy’s relationship is “hope”. Stay with me on this.
All of their interactions are in the past. This was before Carmen was jaded and traumatized by the jackass chef with the glasses (can’t remember his name. Don’t care.). Carmen is a hopeful person (at this point in time). I wouldn’t say he is an outright optimist but he has the capacity to look towards the future with goals and aspirations. Mikey is the exact opposite. Mikey does not have the capacity for hope and is locked in a limited, and I would argue, pessimistic point of view. Mikey is too consumed by the present and the past to even consider the future.
Carmen brings his hope to Mikey and Mikey just snuffs it out without lifting a finger. I can’t wrap my brain around it. Mikey and Carmy are written to be foils of one another so that’s why for writing reasons— but what is Mikey’s motive? Why is he so mean to Carmy? Maybe he doesn’t want Carmen to end up where he is standing. What doesn’t realize is the more he dim’s carmy’s light— the closer Carmy is to ending up where Mikey is.
Carmy’s hope makes Mikey angry. It’s heartbreaking to see. As I make my way through the season I am hoping for more answers on why.

Kingdom Hearts 2 thoughts
I think something we don’t talk about a lot is that Kingdom Hearts 2 at its core is a story about grief. Everyone suffers immense loss in this game but I think Sora is the one who loses the most because it’s not just him it’s Roxas too. Because they merged they can feel each others emotions and recall each other’s memories. From the very beginning of Sora’s journey in KH2 grief consumes Sora. Roxas is looking through Sora’s eyes and grieving through Sora. Every tear shed is not solely Sora’s anymore.
I also believe that as soon as Sora learns of Roxas and puts together what is pain is his own and what pain is Roxas’— Sora begins to grieve Roxas too. Throughout Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3 we see Sora struggle with the loss of Roxas despite never really having him in the first place. The sense of injustice he feels on behalf of Roxas is so tangible. The tears he has shed, the sadness he carries, the determination to give Roxas back his personhood.
Riku held contempt for Roxas and Xion at first because he associated them with the loss of Sora. Eventually he got through that— he could never truly hate either of them because he knows they are apart of the person he loves so much and misses so immensely. Sora eventually grieves Xion as well upon learning who she is and what she has suffered because she is a part of him.
There are so many other examples— Lea and Isa, Kaira, Sora, and Riku, Mickey and Ansem The Wise, Aqua, Terra, and Venus— that’s what I love about this game and this series so much. It’s not the feel good game you expect it to be. You go through the motions of loss, grief, and reunion in so many complex and beautiful ways. That’s what sets this series apart from its competitors. The acceptance of complex emotions we often shy away from in avoiding feeling the hurt. This series confronts them head on.

SodaPop Curtis thought
Something I don’t think gets discussed often is that Darry wasn’t the only one who became a parent to Ponyboy.
SodaPop took became the closest thing to a mother figure Ponyboy had. He was working and paying bills too. He was delaying his life to help take care of both Ponyboy and Darry. He was empathetic and gentle to Ponyboy and was his emotional support to lean on.
Found family is sometimes a broken family with the roles rearranged. Darry definitely became a father to Ponyboy in the wake of their parents death but SodaPop became something close to a mother too.

VLD chaos thought
I think it would have been funny if they dedicated an episode to a fucking tornado.
HEAR ME OUT
how the fuck were there no severe weather events during the earth liberation effort? War causes climate change which leads to severe weather changes. Shit like hurricanes and tornadoes are more frequent and violent now. So how the fuck did they miss the opportunity to include that in the earth season????
Now walk with me folks while we throw realism out the fucking window for a minute. Humor me people— it’s fucking space war.
I think a tornado forming mid-fight would have been such a good episode. A disaster thriller episode where the team had to figure out how to dodge a fucking tornado. Also I think explaining what a tornado is on earth to Allura, Romelle, and Coran would have been hilarious.
Also if they did a tornado episode— what would have really raised the stakes is it being one of those night tornadoes you can only see when lighting strikes near it.
LIKE IMAGINE FOR A MINUTE. They are mid-fight or mid-mission and a storm hits right and they think nothing of it. Then the wind starts to pick up and the uneasy feeling of impeding doom creeps in right. Then BOOM lightning strikes and you see the ugly bastard— a big ass tornado. One of them yells out warning the others to turn the fuck around and hightail it out of there (Voltron is not formed). One of the lions gets sucked into the tornado and now that person has to try to figure a way out or just try not to die. So on and so forth.
if anyone has written a SINGLE THING remotely close to this concept PLEASE— send me a mf link >:)

I finished sunrise on the reaping
That is the most painful book I’ve ever read in my fucking life dude.
- snow you fugly bitch you don’t deserve anything good.
- Haymitch from the moment he was reaped never had a fucking chance.
- I saw theories floating around about the clock arena in catching fire— how each wedge was meant for a victor. I think the Jabbarjays were meant for Haymitch.
- I don’t think Mags suffered a stroke I think her impairments are from capital torture
- also loved that Mags was Haymitch’s mentor
- “it’s okay to cry around Mags.” oh my god đŸ„ș
- honest to god my hatred for Snow made me miss Gale— I HATE GALE BUT MAN I HATE SNOW MORE— I’d rather Gale be annoying than Snow be viscous.
- the epilogue “I have to take care of my family” HE LOVES THEM !! THEY BECAME A LITTLE FAMILY đŸ„čđŸ„Č
- using poetry to showcase Haymitch’s decaying mental state and decent into insanity was powerful.
- Katniss stealing goose eggs for Haymitch is so funny
- we fucking fell for capital propoganda in Catching Fire when they watch the playbacks of Haymitch’s games
- the fact that the first time Haymitch ACTUALLY gets picked in the reaping is Catching Fire— made me so angry for him.
- Lucy Gray Baird crumbs— delicious
- also why does Snow have a habit of trauma dumping to 16 year olds he plans on using as punching bags. The fuck???
- LENORES DEATH WAS SO SINISTER AND EVIL AND HORRIFIC AND GUT WRENCHING— SUZANNE WHY WOULD YOU EVER WRITE THAT.
- I did cry a lot during Maysilee’s death. Haymitch saying he went from hating her to loving her like family hit me like a fucking bus.
- I went into this being like— we already know what happens. How bad could it be?— worse. Awful. Horrible. We asked for it. We payed for it. Keep Finnick’s backstory in THE FUCKING VAULT BITCH WE ARE SORRY— WE LEARNED OUR LESSON SUZANNE đŸ«š
- reading this knowing what happens was like waiting for the other shoe to drop. Instead of shoes dropping it was fUCKING ANVILS BITCH.
- so happy we got more Mags lore
- Beatee and his son. Hey girl fuck you. Fuck you Snow. Eat shit bitch.
It was a great read but man it was emotionally harrowing as FUCK. I read the original trilogy because of this book announcement. I read it for Haymitch because he is my favorite. No regrets. Just tears. 10/10 highly recommend. If you are sensative get tissues.

Thinking about what happened to Finnick and Peeta does make me fucking cry everytime.
In the movie (catching fire)— the face finnick makes when mags decides to sacrifice herself to save everyone. In that moment he was a child. In that moment he was 14 again. His whole persona dropped like heavy armor. I sob everytime. 10 years of being jaded and desensitized just disappeared long enough for him to suffer immense loss.
Peeta arriving in district 13 half his weight and half of who he used to be. Him not knowing what is real and what isn’t anymore. Him having to fight for his identity or even just to feel some sense of normal even for a moment.
Coriolanus Snow you unpasteurized milk looking ass bitch when I catch you—

The Magic of Education
This is a PSA post to visit your local library and get a library card !!
I am taking a humanities class in school, and it feels like one big book club. I enjoy going to this class because it feels like a book club. It healed a part of my inner child who didn't feel smart and was behind everyone else. I love engaging in healthy discourse and really unpacking layered ideas.
We are currently reading The Epic of Gilgamesh. Today in class, we discussed what it means to be human and what separates nature from civilization. I enjoy this epic more than I thought I would through this class and discussion.
Jump into books! whether physical, digital, or audio -- get a library card, read what you love, and talk about what you read!

Call Your Mom: The Indomitable Hope of The Human Spirit
I think songs like Call Your Mom by Noah Kahan and the story sharing that comes along with this kind of music is a testament to how inaccessible mental healthcare is in America.
It is common for people to share their harrowing moments in life online to find community because they can’t find accessible mental healthcare.
It is so physically exhausting and mentally traumatizing to be poor in America. Mental illness is common in places of concentrated poverty. Violence, addiction, and mental illness and poverty are so closely tied together in this country because of how hard it is to get things like affordable care. It is easier to live in pain and self medicate than reach out for help and get the proper care you need.
It is so much easier to die in this country than it is to stay alive. Staying alive takes so much money. Food, shelter, medicine, education, transportation, you name it. When we work ourselves to the bone and our bodies begin to decay we are told to shut up, keep working, and die slowly and quietly.
This song is also a testament to the indomitable hope of the human spirit. Despite the psychological trauma of being poor in America we continue to stay alive. In spite of all the hard times we fall on we manage to get back up. We suffer to put food on the table and pay the bills. Music like this fills our ears to silence the chaos of the world and music like this makes us feel seen. Music like this makes us feel heard.
Continue to write. Continue to share your stories. Continue to create art. Drive all night. Call their mom. Give yourself a reason.

I know that Rue and Prim’s stories are some of the most gut wrenching in The Hunger Games.
Reaper and Thresh make me feel the same way Prim and Rue do. They were someone’s babies. Reaper and Thesh were so young. Young enough to still need their parents. Young enough to still have an active imagination. Young enough to have loving and empathetic souls. Too young to die.
They were held in the arms of their moms in hospital rooms. They were tucked into bed and said goodnight to their loved ones. They had breakfast at tables and passed shares of food around. They were someone’s world. They were stolen away. I cried when Thresh died because it felt just as unfair as rue’s death. I haven’t read tbosbas but I have seen Reapers memorial scene and death scene and it made me cry watching it.
Despite their demeanors/how the capital presented these two— I firmly believe Reaper and Thresh were gentle and kind. There is so much power in their stories and I will never forget how I felt losing them in each story they appeared in.

I do firmly believe Lance is the Disney princess of the team.
Not only can he sing and dance but this moron makes friends with the wild life of any planet they visit.
The creature could be the size of a mountain and Lance will still offer to scratch its head. He takes joy in this. Lance loves wildlife and animals. Lances is also very social and doesn’t care who it’s with.
Lance had done this since childhood. This little goof brought home the neighborhood stray cats, dogs, and more back home because he thought they looked lonely and needed a home. His parents only kept one stray cat and Lance had to put the rest back outside.
Lance is a very loving soul. He has no issues befriending wildlife across the universe. Sir is the Disney princess of the group.

People might eat me up for this but I think that the ending of Hero Academia was dumb as hell.
There was no resolution to the conflict in my opinion.
Now hear me out.
The main point of the story is how izuku became a hero blah blah blah we got there I’m aware.
The main conflict was why do villians exist right? (At least that’s what I took away)
Many characters— the most notorious being Stain stated that hero’s only protect the rich and villians will always exist so long as heroism is a for profit industry. Vulnerable people will always be left behind so long as money is a motivator for heroes.
WE SAW THIS POINT MORE THAN ONCE!!
We saw it from the origin stories from the league of villains but my favorite example is Rody Soul.
Rody lives in poverty and resides in a low income neighborhood. In his movie he states that not a lot of hero’s work in his neighborhood because there isn’t a lot of money for their work there. The absence of hero’s because there is not money to make in that area leaves that community vulnerable. It’s part of the reason why Rody has to keep his family afloat outside of the law. Heroism being a for profit industry leaves people like Rody Soul to fend for themselves. If money is a motivator for heros to find areas to work— heros are more likely to protect the rich over the poor.
Midoriya has empathized and reached out to understand Rody Soul, Shigaraki, and others who share those experiences. He doesn’t change the system that creates the issues that leaves people or communities vulnerable. Izuku is also from a vulnerable community as well— he is not wealthy and he is quirkless (which in this society makes him a minority). The only reason he was able to get in with the wealthy is because someone from the wealthy class (all might) opened the door for him and let him walk through. Could he have done it on his own? Maybe— but that’s not how the story went.
Izuku could have been a catalyst for change. He wasn’t. That’s what’s disappointing. Throughout the story he collected so many testimonies about how the profit based system of heroism created villians from the conditions of poverty to social rejection. Still Izuku did nothing with them. Nothing that we can see at least. The classism imbedded within the hero Industry is never addressed or resolved. Which begs the question what was the point? You got rid of Shigaraki and now you wait for the society’s next disgruntled reject to rise to power and take his place?
I know we are all thinking— why is this izuku’s responsibility? Simple. He is the main character. It was hella weird all the adults had a 16 year old child leading a literal civil war. But he is the main character so therefore he is at the front everything. So when everyone was and still is looking towards him— why did he change nothing?
The hero industry is still a for profit system which means heroes are still working in majority wealthier areas. The big conflict of why do villains exist was never resolved.
It’s nice that we got a happy ending but it sucks that the main conflict never actually got a resolution.
I honestly think that the summer camp/kidnapping Bakugo arc of season 3 was the peak of this show and they were never able to create a storyline that impactful again. The only thing that compares is the overhaul arc of season 4. Eri could have been another Shigaraki but she didn’t because heros stepped in to protect a vulnerable person. THE ANSWER WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM AND YET NOTHING CHANGES IN THE END. YOU JUST WENT BACK TO THE STATUS QUO.
