Project Reflection
From the go this project was super tricky and it didn't stop right until the final hand in moments
I was happy to work in my studio group again as we went well with each other last project, but attendance wasn't great for some of the members which really halted our progress and communication
Developing a string concept has to be the hardest part - we had so many ideas but nothing really working until like 5 or 6 weeks in
I really enjoyed developing packaging but I just wish I could have designated more time and love to it over a longer period of time - I just had a lot of other areas to think about
I found it really difficult to visualise my brand identity when working on a packaging format - so I avoided this and developed assets through the brand book format. It wasn't an awful idea but this development took so much time and meant when it came to creating packaging it felt rushed. In hindsight I wish I developed the branding using both formats, not just one.
I still don't really feel confident that my solution is fully resolved or appropriate for my target market - speaking of, I wish I did more research of my target market but I was just so overwhelmed with tasks
I can't honestly say I look back on the work and feel proud of all of it, but there are definitely parts where I think I did really well and experimented. I potentially just took on too many roles of the project and suffered because of it
While I didn't like 'inventing' the string, I liked the packaging part and would be totally keen to do more in the future

Spread example
Colour palette + brand assets/look
Really happy with how the layout turned out, I like the long wide experience of viewing and turning the pages

Binding the final booklet, probably one of my favourite parts, surprisingly sturdy for what it is

Using the level 4 area to print, trim, hole punch, and then string bind
Printing went really well on the first try of low qual paper, and on the final 120 gsm

Print success
Printing on translucent paper ended up to be really successful
The look of overlaying details is really cool and I wish I incorporated it more in this project
Definitely something to consider for the future

Also was able to fix up the dielines and present them in the best way I could in the book
A shame it can't be to scale but still happy with how it turned out

2nd NOV

Spent some time today working on the final outer cover, making the refill box, then photographing in the studio and outside in the grass
Pretty happy with these images and really resolves the whole project in the brand book

Weirdly has become one of my favourite pages after initially hating it
Got to see how the colours turned out via print and also talked a lot about my intentions for the branding, explaining my decisions:
The thinking behind the branding is to create something that stands out from what already exists - just like the actual product does. A bright and colourful approach is a new fresh, and playful perspective on gardening; the vibrancy of flowers and green grass is often overlooked when it comes to products in this discipline.
With that being said - the target market is adults, not children. Persistent experimentation and reflection have resulted in a reasonably minimal-styled approach, carefully considered to appeal to mature minds.
The visual look of Plantsman’s Reel balances on the line of pleasant fun and sophistication.
Finally kinda happy

Constructing final inner box
Really sturdy and happy with this one
Can't complain, it was fun to make and went well

Refill box branding
Reasonably easy to construct due to already having all the info and assets
Quite happy with this one, kept it super simple
Needs a little more info but would be keen to print and construct tomorrow

Revised packaging
Looking at the old outer cover, I didn't like how it was too busy and disjointed
It didn't capture the minimal feel
I think this does a better job of that
Im not super convinced like it steps a little of out my comfort zone but I think its cool
Im proud of my mahi but no time to stop

Experimenting with some ways I can get the handwritten type into this
Not feeling it, too busy too much
