Congressional staffers stage walk out to protest police killings
More than 150 congressional staffers, as well as a few elected officials, walked off the job Thursday afternoon, gathering on the steps of the Capitol to join protests in support of the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two unarmed black men killed by police officers last summer.

In response to the video:
Well this would be great and dandy except there's the fact that full compliance can still get you killed. This is especially so if you are a minority. No matter how nice you dress, no matter how wide you smile, if you fit the "description" no matter what choice of conduct you choose the odds on are not in your favor. That's the problem. Those pre-determined uneven odds. That's why complying to fight another day is not enough.
Also: I don't find what I said negative so I decided to share.

Please everybody watch, if you have anything negative to say you can kindly keep it to yourself.

There’s been a disturbing trend in the media coverage about Mike Brown since the footages of the Eric Garner and Tamir Rice murders have circulating on the networks. I’ve noticed that the Mike Brown supporting commentators aren’t on as much, if at all. They’re dismissing the Mike Brown case...

Those are not protesters. Those are opportunist.
Is no one seriously concerned about the protesters? Yeah, protest, but the ”protesters” have stolen and committed arson against an innocent store owner who didn’t go to the police in the first place. We’re seriously not supposed to say anything about that???

Generalizing about white people is just as wrong as generalizing about black people. Stop making untrue, sweeping assumptions about a race of people.
Ah yes, the grand old defense: 'not all white people…'. I thought about ignoring you but opted to have this exhausting conversation instead, in the hope that you’ve said this simply because no one has educated you on the subject. Also, because I recall once stupidly using the ‘not all men’ line of argument - so I guess a few of us have been there.
Anyway, the short and very simple answer is this: If you can truly look within yourself, look at your opinions and beliefs, and honestly say: I am not racist. I am for justice. I am for equality. Then guess what? You can rest assured, because the jokes and the statements are not about you. They were not written or said for you. And they should not affect you. “if the shoe doesn’t fit: don’t wear it”.
Now, your idea of "Generalizing about white people is just as wrong as generalizing about black people" suggests a belief that can only be held by a person who is far from being in touch with reality. It suggests that generalizations about black, and white people are equally harmful. Which is not the case. You see, making jokes or statements about white people, may hurt some feelings (I’m guessing that is why you commented on that post I reblogged and why you’ve sent this message.), but generalizations about black people can, and often does mean the difference between life and death, getting a job or not, being stopped and/or harassed by police or not being so. So you see, hurt feelings on the internet is a small price to pay for the great privilege you receive in real life.
Finally, when a person of color, is telling you about some form of racism or oppression; whether it be phrased as a joke or not (as that post was), and whether it includes a ‘generalization’ or not, for you, as a white, person to overlook the essence of their argument, and say “not all white people…”, what you are saying is that the validation of you being non-racist is as important as their experience(s) with racism and oppression. What you are saying is that this feeling of insult (which will more than likely have no effect on the rest of your life, or even the next few minutes of it), is more important than the situation they have faced their entire lives, and will continue to do so, even after you stop feeling insulted and forget about the joke/statement all-together.
Whether you realize it or not, it comes from this feeling of entitlement called white privilege.

On September 16, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kathy Alizadeh handed the grand jury a copy of Missouri statute 563.046- the state’s use of force doctrine.
This 1979 doctorine was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court based entirely on the portion of the statute that was helpful to Officer...

The remarkable lack of solidarity amongst disenfranchised groups of people when they need to stick together more than anything is miserably amusing. Scrolling through my dashboard today I found at least 4 different comics about “bad feminism”, that is, feminists calling other feminists out on...
