“Discussion time. The Fermi Paradox is basically this: there are billions of stars in the Milky Way that are just like our sun and many of them are billions of years older than the earth. We now know that Earth-like planets are very common, a lot more common than gas giants, there’s about one Earth-like planet per star in our galaxy. The chances of an Earth-like planet developing life is about 1%, but that’s still 10,000,000 planets! Even at the slow pace of interstellar travel, the Milky Way could have been fully explored in about a million years. So the paradox is...if you follow this line of reason...where is everybody? Tell me your best guess.”

“Neither. They named it after me, since I’m the only astronomer here. At least the only one with a degree.”
