caleb-raines:
“Tell me about it,” Caleb shook his head, he hated the cold, and standing out here playing crossing guard was not his idea of a prestigious job. “I sent a couple of patrols to go door to door, making sure every building got the message.” He told him, better they both keep an eye out for when the soldiers came through. “The hospital’s already secured though, and the Cardinal’s safe in the bunker.”
Jax couldn’t help but snort. “Hard to imagine anyone would miss this message.” He knew Caleb was just being thorough, but with all the commotion, it seemed impossible for anyone to not know what was going on. “Of course she is,” he caught himself fast enough to reroute the bitterness in his voice, “I’ll bet she’s having a field day over this. I wonder if it was one of her staffers who fucked up. We’ll probably know about it by the end of the night. We should ask the General when we get into the shelter.”

lola-jaqobis:
Lola looked up when she saw Jax approaching, letting him dismiss the soldier before she threw her arms around him. “I just want to make sure they’re okay!” She insisted, although when she said it to him, it sounded kind of silly. “I can’t let anything happen to them, Jax, not even something weather-related.”
Jax usually relaxed into Lola’s embrace, but with the chaos around them, his body tensed beneath her hold. Hesitantly, he rubbed her back, his eyes darting around, trying to see if any of his underlings were staring at them. “They’re going to be fine, I’m sure soldiers are at the school evacuating them right now. Nothing’s going to happen,” he stated it as matter of factly as he could, though he didn’t truly know. “Did you try messaging one of the older ones? Or even Eliza? I’m sure they’ll answer if their trackers are working.”

Jax recognized Lola’s voice from across the street, even with the howling wind. Sucking in a breath, he darted over, interrupting before the soldier had an opportunity to make his girlfriend even ore frantic. “I’ll take care of this,” he dismissed the young soldier, who he could’ve sworn he heard swearing under their breath as they walked away. Jax placed his glove covered hands on Lola’s shoulders, his cheeks bright red from the wind stinging them. “You can’t go to the school, okay? The kids are fine, the entire school is being evacuated.”
“Please, I just want to go to the school and make sure they’re okay!” Lola was arguing with one of the soldiers, who was insisting that she proceed to the nearest shelter, rather than trying to get through the city to check on her siblings. She knew that the school had its own emergency weather shelter, and she didn’t care if she had to trek there in the snow, she needed to know they were all right.

“This is a shit show already,” Jax rumbled, just loud enough for anyone close to hear. Usually when bad weather hit, the goal was to get everyone into the shelters before conditions got bad enough for citizens to panic. Whoever had been on weather radar duty had seriously dropped the ball. “After the shit we got for those officers, whoever missed this better get their ass demoted to fucking administrator.”
“Keep it moving, everyone proceed in an orderly fashion into the shelter,” Caleb’s voice cut through the storm, as he was playing traffic director into one of the city’s biggest shelters. “There’s enough room for everyone, no need to shove!” He barked at a couple of rowdy young men, shooting them a glare that promised complications if they didn’t get it together.

Draped head to toe in military garb, Jax stood in the middle of the building blizzard, snow speckling his usually spotless attire. Flashlight in one hand, he used the other to guide the hoards of citizens headed toward the shelter after getting the alert. “This way! Oh shoot - do you need help?”

inplcinsight:
“You’re asking me?” Alice’s face scrunches up in confusion, unable to hide hide her reaction at the notion that she was a possible source of relationship advice. It wasn’t exactly something she would associate with herself. “I haven’t seen or heard from Caleb since he found me at George’s tree…on the anniversary. The topic never really came up. Though this would have always been an issue for you Jax, whether with Lola or Artemis.”
His face scrunched, wondering what sort of game Caleb was playing. “Have you tried to get in touch with him?” It made a difference whether the other Commander was ignoring Alice or if he’d just been busy.”Yeah, but, I don’t know. It was easier to lie to Artemis. I don’t know, I just don’t like lying to Lola. She wants to be with me all the time, which I love, but I keep having to tell her no.”
