“So let me get this straight,” Flynn stared angrily at the dessert table, waiting for an explanation from someone. “They invite us all to this thing and say ‘first come first serve’ but they don’t even make the good stuff? Figures! I could’ve stayed at home if I wanted stale cookies.”

Fashion Baby

“I know wearing a bandana over my face isn’t exactly sexy, but if it keeps me from getting sick, I think I can stand to be a bit unfashionable.” Lola’s voice was somewhat muffled, like most people she was pretty wary about even the most innocuous cold. Her siblings were off enjoying the free food and festivities, but she had tied similar masks over their faces before sending them off, as a precaution. “Besides, it’s not like it’ll keep me from having fun.”

A nostalgic grin was plastered on Nadia’s lips as she wandered around the courtyard. Between her buzz and the memories of festivals from her childhood, the experience was magical. She plucked a sliced piece of bread from the subsistence table, spinning to offer it to the person closest to her. “Look at all this food! And did you see the dance floor? They really went all out this year!”

The movie has now started! Everyone has been asked to turn their attention to the screen. Citizens will see the following through the course of the movie:

The story is an “alternate” future of the Society. It begins with a fictional Cardinal and Council declaring that all of the Tent Cities will be allowed inside the walls to co-mingle. 

Unable to handle the population of the incoming citizens, Doctors perform quick, overview tests that they believe will expose any plague carriers.

However, those quick tests fail to protect the Society

The Society is suddenly over run a population of the sick, and because there was no recognition of the informal hierarchies of each Tent City, tensions start to run high.

Those who were once Tent City members drain the resources, and those who had lived in the Society their entire lives began to die off.

The story focuses in on a Society born Family with three young children who all catch the plague at school from a child who had not been properly tested for the disease.

Within a few years, the population decreases to a dangerously low level. Survival is more uncertain, and with such few people, the government dissolves in order to put all living, healthy humans to work for basic needs.

The movie closes nearly twenty years in the future, with a poorly made set that showcases an abandoned, ruined version of the walled city. One person remains, but is sickly, and has long since run out of food and medicine. They stare out past the walls, narrating the dreams the Society once had for rebuilding mankind, before they too die, and with them, the human race.

Despite being off duty, Jax was still dressed in his work clothes. Normally, he would’ve relished in a chance to wear what little off duty clothing he’d been given by the Society, but the Festival had him on edge. “Think they’ll start the remarks early? I can’t imagine they’ll hold off if they’ve got something important to share with us.”

“Keep it moving, everyone proceed in an orderly fashion into the shelter,” Caleb’s voice cut through the storm, as he was playing traffic director into one of the city’s biggest shelters. “There’s enough room for everyone, no need to shove!” He barked at a couple of rowdy young men, shooting them a glare that promised complications if they didn’t get it together.

The After Party

Lola had emerged from hiding to watch the movie, but sitting with her siblings as it went by filled her with a growing sense of dread. Not because she feared the world created in the movie, but because she knew this kind of thing would hurt someone she’d grown to care about. As the credits rolled and the crowd applauded, she instructed her siblings to go straight home, and despite their earlier resolution not to be together, she knew she had to find Jax. Thoughts about his girlfriend were the furthest thing from her mind, she just had to make sure he was okay before she could go home. She moved through the crowd, her stomach twisting as she craned her neck trying to catch a glimpse of the commander. @jaxwilder

As the remarks finished, Flynn inched away from the people around him, trying to get away from the germs anyone might be carrying. He suddenly wished he had a bandana to cover his face. “Are we all supposed to just stand here and pretend to be excited about some movie after that? I don’t feel very united at the moment.”

Hide & Seek

She was shaking. Her blood was boiling with fury, and yet at the same time, her heart felt cold and broken, and she had to get away from everyone. She slunk back into the area where the children had been preparing for the play, now abandoned while they all enjoyed the rest of the festivities, and sat herself down on a step, trying to calm herself down. She wanted to cry, or scream, but mostly she wanted to punch something. No, not something. Someone. She knew who her anger was directed at, but if she acted on it, she’d regret it later, for so many reasons. So she fumed in silence, squeezing her fingernails into her palms, hoping the pain might give her some kind of release. @inplcinsight

“Did you see that?” Nadia looked in mild horror toward the capital building. She could’ve sworn she saw the lights flicker. “They should’ve sent us to the shelters earlier, this is getting out of hand.”

“Holy shit,” Nadia cursed, her eyes trained on the Cardinal. She had no reason to disbelieve the powerful woman, and she had every reason to be afraid of the rest of the world. “Can you believe it? We need to be vigilant. Don’t you think?”

Founder’s Day Festival

Founder’s Day is upon us! Many years ago on November 1st, Eugene Darrow came across the large lake and the fertile ground near it. The Society’s legacy was born out of his ingenuity and survival skills. Every year, the entire population celebrates the historic day with a modest festival. 

All Factions, except for hospital and military personnel, will have a half day on November 1st, and will be released by lunch time. No one will have to report to work, except essential hospital staff and military patrols, the day following Founder’s day until after lunch. Due to the cold weather, the Authority will open up the Cardinal Headquarters for the celebration. All citizens are invited and expected to attend once they have finished work for the day.

This year’s festival will feature a movie premiere, a status update from the Healthcare Liaison, special appearances by the Society’s War Heroes, and a short play performed by a very special group of schoolchildren. The courtyard will be decorated for the occasion, and turned into a dancing area for the evening. Basic food and beverages will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Curfew will be extended until 2 a.m. so long as citizens are taking part in the celebrations! So enjoy the night, and be sure to bring the entire family! 

Founder’s Day will take place on the dash from Thursday November 1 at 6 p.m. EST to Monday November 5 at 6 p.m. EST. Should the event need more or less time, it will be adjusted.  It will be a time stopped event, so even though we will be threading over multiple days, all interactions will take place on the 1st (Founder’s Day) or the morning of the 2nd. Please feel free to start having your roles talk about the Founder’s Day festival, and look out for plot drops!

The event has now started! All citizens should report to the Cardinal HQ as soon as possible to enjoy the food and partying. The Festival will start with dancing and mingling before any remarks are made by the Councilors or the Cardinal. The festival should be fun, but remember that breaking the law still has dire consequences if you're caught .

All playable characters should participate in the event. It can be assumed that the vast number of other Society members in healthcare and the military, including roles on hiatus, will be "officially" on duty during the Festival. Remember to tag all of your starters and be sure you're interacting with everyone! It's a great chance for your role to meet others who they might not ordinarly come into contact with.
