Respect the Work: Why Giving Proper Credit Matters
Let’s talk about credit.
As a creative, I’ve poured time, energy, and effort into projects that, frankly, deserved more acknowledgment. It’s one thing to collaborate for free or at a discounted rate because someone lacks the funds; that happens, and there are ways to work around it. But it’s an entirely different issue when you don’t show proper respect for the work that was done for you.
Here’s the truth: when I create for you, it’s not just a simple point-and-shoot job. It’s driving out of my way, hauling equipment, setting up, tearing down, and hours of work both during and after the shoot to make sure everything is perfect. It’s taking time away from family, burning gas, and sacrificing other opportunities. And when that effort goes unacknowledged—or worse, disrespected—it’s infuriating.
If I say “credit,” I mean proper credit. No, a tiny mention in the corner of a flyer doesn’t cut it. Proper credit is putting my name or logo in a place where people will see it. It’s a shoutout, a sentence of gratitude, a small acknowledgment of the value I brought to your project. If my work played a role in your success, that deserves recognition.
What’s frustrating is when people forget that creative collaboration is a relationship. Just like you wouldn’t ignore the person who helped you achieve your goals in any other field, you shouldn’t overlook the creatives who help you visually bring your ideas to life. Respecting someone’s contribution is not just ethical—it strengthens professional relationships and fosters trust.
On the flip side, if you’re part of a larger production or project, don’t hog all the credit for yourself. If others helped you, acknowledge their contributions. Success is rarely a one-person show, and acting like it is diminishes the work of everyone who stood by your side and gave their time to support you.
At the end of the day, giving credit where it’s due isn’t hard. It’s a simple act of respect that goes a long way in building goodwill, trust, and integrity in your professional relationships. So, let’s do better—respect the time, effort, and creativity people pour into their work. Acknowledgment isn’t optional; it’s part of the deal.
Your thoughts? Let’s discuss in the comments. How do you handle situations where credit isn’t given properly?

Success is something we all want, and let’s be real—we want it yesterday. I get it. I juggle a lot too, stressing about deadlines and goals, constantly pushing myself to do more. But over time, I’ve learned something important: if you don’t take care of yourself, none of it matters.
A decade ago, I would’ve scoffed at the idea of taking daily naps. “Cut it out and get back to work!” younger me would’ve said. But now, as I’ve been navigating depression, those naps are lifesavers. They’re not just rest; they’re a reset. And that’s okay. Your body has a way of telling you what it needs. So listen to it. Ignore the pressure to overwork or the guilt that comes with resting. Taking care of yourself isn’t laziness—it’s survival.
At the end of the day, what’s the point of achieving everything if your mind isn’t in a good place? If you’re not okay mentally, you won’t be okay with anything else. So start with what’s inside. Work on your mental and emotional health. Yes, life is complicated, and everyone’s problems are unique. But the one universal truth? You can’t pour from an empty cup. Fill yours first.

The Self-Taught Journey of Jay Digital: From Freeware to Full-Time Hustler
Hey, what’s up DigiGang? Jay Digital here. I wanted to take a moment to talk about my journey, not just to show off my credentials, but to share my story and what makes me, well, me. A lot of people expect a degree or formal education when it comes to creative fields, but the truth is, I never stepped foot in a college classroom for this. Everything I know comes from years of self-teaching and sheer passion for what I do.
Let’s rewind about 15 years. I’m 32 now, but back in high school, there was no easy access to Adobe subscriptions. You had to pay for the whole suite—upwards of $600—and any updates? You had to buy them all over again. I didn’t have the money to make that happen, so I turned to freeware. GIMP was a game-changer for me. It wasn’t Photoshop, but it was powerful enough to get my creative juices flowing. And while it’s still popular among creatives, at the time, it felt like my only option. But I didn’t let that stop me. I spent countless hours teaching myself everything I could about design, coding, video editing, and even photography.
That passion is what really set the foundation for my expertise. It wasn’t about getting a degree—it was about loving the process and learning on my own terms. I didn’t need a formal education to know I had the skills to create what I envisioned. Over the years, I’ve mastered everything from Adobe software to motion graphics, and now, I’m diving into music production as well. I’m working on my second album, and the confidence I’ve gained through self-teaching is carrying me forward. I’m not just doing it for me, though; I want to inspire others who are on the same path. It’s a struggle, no doubt, but it’s the journey that matters.
Of course, there have been obstacles along the way—like the time I tried going to school, only to have all my gear stolen right after a concert. That was a sign to me that maybe my path was meant to be different. I learned that education is important, but self-driven passion and hands-on experience are just as valuable, if not more.
Now, I’m here, running my own show and working to make my dreams a reality. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. I’m building a network, sharing my work, and staying true to what I love. I want to provide value not just for me and my family, but for anyone who needs help bringing their creative vision to life.
If you’re following along, I’d love your support. Like, comment, share, and subscribe—every little bit helps me grow. I’m just getting started, and there’s so much more I want to do. So, stick around and join me on this journey. Peace out, and keep pushing forward.

Why Every Shoot Needs a Plan
Let me tell you something I’ve learned the hard way: winging it on shoot day might sound exciting, but it’s rarely a good idea if you want something truly impactful. Sure, some amazing music videos and content happen on the fly, but most of the time, the stuff that sticks with people comes from planning.
Why Scripts Matter
Think of a script like a group text with all the details laid out—it’s how everyone knows what’s happening, when it’s happening, and who’s doing what. Without it, people get confused, you waste time answering the same questions over and over, and the vibe on set takes a nosedive. Scripts exist for a reason: they keep things moving and ensure no one feels lost.
Gear Prep: The Unsung Hero
Let’s be real—forgetting something small, like an SD card or a battery, can mess up an entire shoot. That’s why I always double-check my gear. Backup batteries? Packed. Extra SD cards? Loaded. Tripods? Ready to go. It’s not about overkill; it’s about avoiding that sinking feeling when you realize you’re missing something critical.
Show Up or Shut It Down
Here’s the deal: if the talent or crew doesn’t show up on shoot day, we’re not shooting. It’s that simple. Everyone’s time matters, and one person flaking can derail the whole thing. If you’re committed, show up. If not, let’s save everyone the hassle and reschedule.
No One’s Perfect
Even with all the planning in the world, things will still go wrong. A battery dies, a lens doesn’t work, or you realize you left something at home. It happens to everyone, even professionals. The difference is that planning gives you a safety net. You’ll still hit a few bumps, but at least they won’t turn into full-on disasters.
So, whether you’re shooting a short film, a music video, or even just some quick content for social, take the time to plan. Trust me, it makes all the difference when it’s time to hit record.

How I Capture Songwriting Ideas on the Fly
What’s up, DigiGang? Ever find yourself with a random lyric or melody stuck in your head at the most unexpected times—while eating dinner, watching TV, or just living life? Same here. Over the years, I’ve developed a method to make sure I never lose those moments of inspiration, and I want to share it with you.
My process combines two simple tools: the Notes app and Voice Memos. Here’s how it works:
Capture the Thought: The moment an idea pops into my head, I grab my phone and open the Notes app. I write down whatever lyric, concept, or spark of inspiration is on my mind.
Record the Melody: If a melody comes to me, I switch to Voice Memos. I record myself humming, singing, or explaining the delivery of the idea. This helps me remember the vibe and details when I revisit it later.
Combine and Organize: Here’s the cool part. I press and hold the recording, drag it into the note, and drop it in place. Now I have the written lyric and vocal sample in one spot, making it easy to revisit the original inspiration.
This system helps me stay grounded in my ideas and hit the ground running when it’s time to write, produce, or fine-tune a song. The next time you have a creative spark, try this method and see if it helps your workflow.
Remember, the best ideas often come when you least expect them—don’t let them slip away. Keep creating, DigiGang!

Hi there, my name is Johnathan Geary, but I go by Jay Digital.
Recently, I was laid off—or rather, fired—from my job. My business, unfortunately, is not thriving at the moment. It’s making zero income. My job, which I just lost, used to pay me about $3,500 a month for photography work—something I believe I do well and have consistently excelled at. However, the decision to let me go wasn’t based on my work quality, but rather the opinions of someone inexperienced in photography making critical decisions about my performance.
I fulfilled my duties and even exceeded them, stepping outside the scope of photography to take on videography tasks and graphic design (though, in reality, I never once touched graphic design during my time there). Despite my efforts, they deemed my performance unsatisfactory, and I was let go immediately after a meeting I had scheduled to clarify things. No resolution. No acknowledgment of my contributions. Just a cold goodbye.
This decision has left me emotionally drained and facing the harsh realities of losing financial security. When a job loss impacts your ability to provide for your family, it’s not just a professional blow—it’s personal. It shakes the very foundation of your home life.
The Struggles of Moving Forward
I’ve always believed in doing things with quality in mind, and while I take accountability for my actions, the stress and lack of appreciation in this role created an environment that was nearly impossible to thrive in. My dismissal forced me to reflect not only on my career but also on my personal struggles.
For transparency’s sake, I’ve dealt with anger issues since I was a child. Stress, coupled with underappreciation, can push anyone to their limits. And while I don’t act on it, I’ve often felt hopeless and even suicidal. But I remind myself that if I give up now, I’ll never know what’s on the other side of perseverance and hard work. I have too many plans and dreams to abandon them.
A New Chapter: Building for Myself
I’ve consulted with my fiancée—my biggest supporter through my lowest moments—and decided to pursue working for myself. It’s a path I’ve tried before, but the stakes are higher now with a family to support. I’m determined to make it work this time.
I’m offering services in photography, graphic design, website creation, and more. Whether it’s creating flyers, logos, headshots, or family photo shoots, I’m committed to delivering quality work. I’ve even introduced a creative service package for $200 a month, offering exclusive access to my skills across various asset creation needs.
For those who want to support me on a smaller scale, I’ve set up a Patreon where you can contribute as little as $10 a month. Even sharing my social media posts or engaging with my content helps tremendously. Every interaction makes a difference.
Why I’m Sharing My Story
I’m sharing this because I believe in being honest and real. Life has been incredibly difficult, but I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. My goal is to continue creating and providing value to others while being transparent about my journey.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. Your support means the world to me, whether it’s through a like, comment, share, or financial contribution. Together, we can create something better. My name is Johnathan Geary, also known as Jay Digital. Remember your heart, and keep going.
Thank you for hearing me out.

Why Blogging Is the Secret Sauce for Business Growth
What's good, DigiGang? It’s Jay Digital here, and guess what? I’m officially diving into the blogging game. If you’ve been rocking with me for a while, you know I’m all about elevating visions—whether through design, photography, or building killer websites. So, why add blogging to the mix? One word: SEO.
You’ve probably heard the term thrown around like a buzzword at marketing meetings, but let’s break it down and talk about why blogging is more than just words on a page—it’s a powerhouse for growth, visibility, and connection.
What’s Blogging Got to Do with It?
Blogging isn’t just for foodies and travel enthusiasts (though, respect to them). For a business like Jay Digital, it’s a tool to educate, inspire, and yes—attract more eyeballs. Each blog post is a digital bread crumb leading potential clients straight to my virtual doorstep. The more value-packed posts I create, the more ways people can discover me through search engines.
Think of blogging as a conversation with your audience. Every post has the power to:
Answer your client’s questions before they even ask.
Showcase expertise (I see you looking for design tips).
Build trust and authenticity (because people do business with brands they vibe with).
SEO: The Magic Behind the Curtain
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the behind-the-scenes hero of any great blog. Imagine a client searching for “custom logo design for tattoo shops” or “how to streamline your business with automation.” If I’ve written a blog that hits those keywords, guess who pops up in their search? Yours truly.
Every blog post is a chance to sprinkle those keywords naturally, boost rankings, and get found by people who actually need what I offer. Blogging is one of the most organic ways to climb the search engine ladder without paid ads.
How Blogging Fits Into Jay Digital
For me, blogging is about creating conversations. It’s not just about algorithms; it’s about reaching YOU—brands, businesses, and even families looking to capture memories. You’ll find posts here about creative strategies, design trends, and honest takes on entrepreneurship, all written with a bold, approachable vibe (because who said professional can’t be fun?).
What to Expect from This Blog
Behind the Scenes: Ever wonder what it’s like to run a one-person creative powerhouse? I’ve got stories.
Tips & Tricks: From branding to automation, I’ll share what works (and what definitely doesn’t).
Real Talk: Expect a little humor, a little edge, and a whole lot of transparency.
So, here’s to the first of many posts on this journey. Whether you’re here for knowledge, inspiration, or just to see what Jay Digital’s about, I’m glad you’re here. Let’s lift your visions to life—and maybe learn a thing or two about the magic of blogging and SEO along the way.
See you in the next post, DigiGang.
