if you want to romantically code the scene where Finn got his name, the romance is not “Poe named Finn” because he didn’t. Poe offered a name and asked if the recently defected stormtrooper was okay with it, which then gave Finn the choice to decide whether to accept the name. (“I’m gonna call you Finn; is that alright?”) If anything, the fact Poe asked if the new name was an okay way to address Finn should be the focus of the exchange here. It’s a huge difference from the First Order, who very obviously did not ask if FN-2187 was a name Finn would want to be identified with. This is about giving Finn his own autonomy by allowing him the chance to be called by something else (“I’m gonna call you Finn”) and either accept or decline it (“Is that alright?”). Finn could have said no and found a different name later on and that would have been totally fine but he liked what Poe suggested—“Finn; yeah, I like that!”—and thus his like of the name Finn made being called “Finn” his choice and Poe acknowledged that by introducing himself with his full name, making them equals, and addressing the other man as “Finn” in their official introduction, just as Finn said it was okay to do. And that, if you want to pull romance/affection out of the scene, is where it’s at.

I think another aspect of this phenomenon is people don't want to admit they find the pacifism boring. They want the glorification of violence and feel guilty about that, so they make things up to justify it and make it seem like the only moral choice.

And that isn't to say you can't enjoy something in media and disapprove of it in real life. I feel like it's pretty common nowadays for people to dislike monarchies in real life but enjoy them in fantasy settings. I think violence in media can easily be handled the same way but not everyone knows how to reconcile that liking a fictional trope doesn't always reflect your real life morals, and so they overcompensate to assuage that guilt.
