Possibly my last illustration for 2017! For “Christmas Eve”, an essay written by my good friend, Miguel Sevidal. This is for the victims of the Drug War who have been deprived of the gift of life. You can read it here.
Merry Christmas! And may we all find hope in this season of giving.

I made my first zine! Hay Nako, Ang Ganda Ko illustrates some of the candid expressions we do that make us sarcastically say the phrase, "hay nako, ang ganda ko!" when captured in photo or in sight. It's P70 each! Pls pm me if you want to buy! 😊

Merienda 30 x 30 in. Digital painting printed on canvas
Merienda is a depiction of a typical afternoon meal with the Filipino family. A usual spontaneous setting and an invitation to anyone, even to those outside of the immediate family, they master the art of cramming themselves into the space made available. It presents the noise and clamor that one would expect from all the chatter and metallic rattling of utensils, the clashing of colors from the food and ornaments, the blinding light that angles from the afternoon sun down to the glass windows, and the celebration of expressions prompted by the sight of relatives and food coming together at one table. Merienda showcases the Filipino’s love for food by highlighting the art of Filipino snacking, which goes beyond just the wide assortment of food to partake in such as the barbecue, lechon, and pancit, and also the importance of family through the communal aspect of even a small meal. Bringing together multiple personalities, Merienda also points out the subtle differences between the younger and older generations through their expression and the amount of interaction they bring to the table.
