Understanding Your North and South Nodes: A Personal Interpretation

The North and South Nodes in astrology can feel like mysterious markers in your birth chart. There are countless interpretations out there, and I’ve come to a personal understanding that resonates with me more deeply than traditional views.

Common Interpretations of the Nodes Many believe that the South Node represents your past life or the things you’ve already mastered, while the North Node points toward your life purpose in this lifetime. Sure, I’m not here to argue with that. However, doesn’t this explanation seem a little vague?

My North Node and South Node Experience I have a North Node in Aries (1st house) and a South Node in Libra (7th house). According to most interpretations, I’m supposed to be a people pleaser, focused on relationships and partnerships—yet that doesn’t resonate with me at all. In fact, I’ve spent most of my life single, and I wouldn’t describe myself as a people pleaser. I’ve always been assertive and independent.

So, what’s really going on?

A New Approach to Interpreting the Nodes It wasn’t until I looked at the ruler of my North Node—Mars, which is in Taurus in my second house—that things started to make sense. I realized that my life purpose isn’t just about focusing on myself or learning to stop people-pleasing (because I’ve never been that person). For me, my purpose is rooted in financial stability and independence—something I’ve been working hard toward for as long as I can remember. That drive to achieve financial freedom is what pushes me to get out of bed each day. This realization felt far more aligned with my true self than anything I had read before.

The Key to Understanding Your Nodes What I’ve learned is this: to truly understand your North Node, check not just the sign but also its ruler and the house it occupies. This combination will give you a much clearer understanding of your life purpose.

The South Node: A Different Perspective On the flip side, I don’t believe the South Node is about past lives. Instead, I see it as the set of tools you’ve been given to achieve your life purpose. The South Node shows the traits, skills, and tendencies you can tap into as you move toward your North Node destiny.

This is just my interpretation, and it has helped me understand my own path more clearly. It’s not about leaving behind one part of yourself, but about using everything you have to move forward in alignment with your true purpose.
