MICROCORPS â Clear Vortex Chamber LP
Featuring Justin K Broadrick on track "FEDBCK" and "FEDBCK 2"
Pre-order: LINK
youtube
Alexander Tuckerâs electronic guise MICROCORPS returns with Clear Vortex Chamber, a new album for Downwards featuring collaborations with Justin K Broadrick, Phew, Regis, Elvin Brandhi, Karl DâSilva and JJOWDY. âThe album follows up 2021âs debut, Xmit and 2024âs Macrocorpse tape. On the new album Tucker continues to develop work around modular systems, cello, bass guitar and voice, creating tracks of heavy electronics, that meld machine rhythms with acoustic samples. It charts a new period of exploration and discovery for Tucker both as musician and producer. After discarding a yearâs worth of material, Tucker sought the advice of Downwards label boss Karl OâConnor who advised him on production techniques and approach. Along with further support form Freddy Lomas of Kinn and Emptysetâs James Ginzburg, Tucker got to work on a new set of material with a heightened sense of clarity and density. Tucker explains âMaking this album really tested me, it was the outcome of a long period of hard lessons and harsh realities, but I had some good friends to guide me along the way and pull me out of the mire.â At the core of MICROCORPS is Tuckerâs complex modular systems, knitted into the tracks are triggered samples of his own cello and bass guitar playing, which meld into the electronic fabric of each track. Tucker expands âI wanted the album to sit somewhere between machine technology with something primitive, where synthetic and acoustic sources become intertwined. I like the idea of different dimensions phasing in and out of one another, creating new areas where I can explore sound, structures and imaginary spacesâ These imaginary spaces play a key role in the construction of CLEAR VORTEX CHAMBER. Tuckerâs background in fine art and his current work with experimental comics bleeds into the unspoken landscapes of his music. âI want to trigger parts of the brain that can dream up imagery whilst at the same time focus of the sonic structure of the music itself, I guess Iâm still obsessed with trying to create some sort of psychoactive environmentâ The architecture of each track presents itself in the form of massive kicks, sonar clicks and kinetic percussive rhythms, supported by pulsing bass drones. Cello and bass guitar samples initially bowed, plucked and hit by mallets are triggered creating dense wooden timbres that punctuate the electronic field. Voices and vocals both treated and untreated weave throughout the album in the form of cryptic dialogues and unspooling wordless singing, adding to the cross pollination of something human, machine and a space in-between. Collaboration is a key element to MICROCORPS. Justin K Broadrickâs heavy spidery guitar lines and processed screaming rip wormholes in âFEDBCKâ, Regis lends his distinct vocal work to âZONAâ, Japanese artist Phew injects organ drones, vocals and fried electronics throughout âSANSUâ. On penultimate track âFEBCK 2â, Karl DâSilvaâs droning saxophone joins Broadrickâs feed backing guitar noise and improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist Elvin Brandhi spits out cut up diatribes across final track âMALLETSâ. Throughout the album Tuckerâs own processed voice sits alongside singer JJOWDYâs eerily gentle laments.â

GODFLESH â Straight to Your Heart
I've enhanced/salvaged the sound, as the pressing notoriously suffers from cramming two 6min+ performances onto a 7"⊠Also put together the little info that's out there to give it the context it deserves. đ â Luke
"Loop first caught the ear of Broadrick and Green on a Peel session in '87, and one track in particular hit hard: "Straight To Your Heart." A few months later, in spring 1988, Godflesh came to life. Fast forward to early 1990, Godflesh and Loop hit the road together for a month-long UK tour with fellow noiseniks World Domination Enterprises. Loop were out pushing A Gilded Eternity, and during that run, the bands were utterly bonded like family. At summer's end, they made it official: a split 7" single on Clawfist Records, mail order only, bundled within their 6-month singles subscription, plan was for each band to cover the other. Broadrick explained the obvious choice: "'Straight To Your Heart' was the first Loop track I think I ever heard. I remember hearing it with Ben on that Peel Session â we were both just like, 'HOLY FUCK.' So when it came time to choose a song to cover, it had to be that one." Hampson returned the favour: "We covered 'Like Rats' from the album that everyone in Loop was hugely into. That was fun to do â I never saw Godflesh as a metal band and that comes across in our cover, I think. Just a great song." Come snowy winter, Broadrick was fronting Sweet Tooth on the "Chain, Cold⊠Goodbye" tour of Loop. Sweet Tooth imploded not long after, in early 1991. The split 7" finally dropped in June '91 with 'Slavestate' EP, hot on the heels from Godflesh's successful Grindcrusher tour. Not long after, Paul Neville left for Cable Regime, and Hampson stepped in just as Loop themselves fell apart."

jesu â Your Path to Divinity
OFFICIAL lyrics. Born in the turmoil of Godflesh's collapse, in the midst of self-destructive substance abuse following Green's departure and during subsequent touring with Raven and Parsons, jesu was brewing and 'Your Path to Divinity' was the first to materialize.
all of the things that you are are none of the things that you were how does it feel to destroy everything that we build

JK FLESHÂ â full live set DL & quick thoughts
May 24 â Helsinki FIN â Sonic Rites Festival
Download audio:Â LINK
Last night was so sick! Enjoy whatever crunchy no-fi photos I could bother myself with⊠My partner and I basically gave the festival a drive-by treatment, showed up, blew it up, dipped. But for JK FLESH, always worth it, amazing to stomp the floor with the perennial outsider who was dropped into what was otherwise a 90% sludge/stoner weekend. Somewhere between self exorcism and dental trauma via Tech Level 2 decelerations, breaking-down techno machinery, neanderthal reductionist grind of Exit Electronics with unhinged contortionist fx fills. Hilariously, I noticed I'd busted clean through my other shoe seams this morning, no joke!! The venue being a respectable dance club didn't hurt either. Decent sound system giving a mean chest punch and subs hitting just hard enough to trigger the dive reflex⊠Crowd was mixed. A few confused stares, sure, the one obligatory plastered "FASTER!!" (will he ever be get peace) but refreshing to see some heads up front absolutely going for it. Not just us. I spied a few repping Pi Electronics, Basic Channel, etc. Not just Finnish metalhead stone statues with their arms folded. Could easily tell who was really there for it âŠand yet again proven how thoughtful (and generous!) Justin is. Truly memorable night hanging out going personal and following up on shooting the shit and talking things profound. Couldn't stop finding overlaps, shared stuff, so much so we all nearly missed the stage call! I record gigs I go to just for my own enjoyment, but this was sanctioned by the man himself... Left my recorder at the front of house, sorry about that rattling can. Only proves the sound level! October in London canât come soon enoughâŠ
