[text] I hope he makes things up with Wild, really. I'm sure we'll hear from him either way
[text] Dhani's had a rough few months. Talking to him would only be a good thing, I'm sure.
[text] I know you're not confidant in your abilities, Tommy, and you know I think you're wrong about that. I think you should stick it out. But that's not the first time I've told you that. We can talk more over lunch.
[text] Oh shit. That sucks. Kind of a problem with this place. It feels really, fuck what's the word. Like things are always changing. Things change really fast around here.
[text] I didn't when I left. Sorry. Maybe he didn't want to leave either. And maybe he'll come back like I did.
[text] That's good news at least. I'll message him. I've been putting it off in case there was bad news. Stupid. I know.
[text] I know. I've always been able to talk to you even when I couldn't talk lol. So basically I'm thinking of dropping out of school.

[text] Possibly. His boyfriend, or ex boyfriend left as well. Maybe
[text] Well I would have hoped he would have said goodbye if he was planning to stay gone.
[text] Sorry. And yes Dhani is living with Daisy now.
[text] Nice work! And of course, you can always talk to me, confidentially.
[text] Thank you, Tommy.
[text] I suppose. I don't really know all the details. I know a few people got hurt, despite the emergency shelters and all. Have you Mr. Fletcher around? He hasn't been returning my texts... I'm sure he's fine. Just curious.
[text] Haha. How about a good old fashion burger and fries?

He moved to touch her cheek, to wipe the tear away but she moved away from him too quickly. He followed her, his hands obediently undressing her, moving the dress from her body with far more delicacy than he'd shown his own clothing. He laid it over a nearby chair, then balanced himself as he took of his socks and boxers, finally.
"You're scared." Jody stated, not casually or judgemental, but plainly. It was obviously a natural thing to be scared of, death. Jody's relationship with it was... complicated at best. He could manipulate it, not control it. He knew he could save a life from the brink. He had devastated a sizable patch of trees in the forest to save a deer Warren had mutilated for the fun of it, to scare Jody. He had taken a wolf's life to save his beloved chihuahua, in revenge for attacking the smaller dog. They weren't things he would normally be proud of.
"I'm a necromancer, usually too afraid to use his power. Afraid enough to ask you to bind my powers away. I suppose I'm afraid of death, too. I always thought I would die young. And you knew you would live forever." He smiled a little, appreciating the irony in that as he drew close to Winter again. His hands moved to her shoulders, "It's all right..." He spoke soothingly, kissing at her neck from behind, pressing himself against her.
Winter watched as more of Jody’s skin was revealed. Their entanglement last time had been heated and a sudden surprise. He hardly had time to reveal any skin before they were in the thick of it. Now, he revealed skin which painted a gruesome picture of the tale he’d just told.
As he spoke, she let her hands reach out and explore this new skin, trailing over the edges of a few white lines. She was gentle in her touch and didn’t let it distract her from what he said. His hand at her cheek lifted her gaze back to his. Black eyes meeting blood red, true versions of themselves staring back at one another.
And he was right, he was so right. Yes, part of taking her vessel’s name was to keep herself safe from the enemies who’d killed her but part of it was to show others that without her reputation, they could grow to care for her. Celine was a new name, but her actions were never a pretense or lie.
“… I never asked for this…” she began. “I never asked to be some immortal witch, who has to possess other people. If I….” the words caught in her throat, a truth she’d so rarely spoken to anyone. Her breathing picked up with a bit of panic but Winter forced the words out. If not now then they never would. “If I could die and be laid to rest, if I could go where everyone else goes in death than I would.”
A tear slipped down her cheek which seemed to be too much for her to show Jody. She bowed her head to avoid his gaze before turning around entirely. With her back to him, she pulled her hair over her shoulder, revealing the long zipper that ran down the back of her dress as invitation for him to undress her now. She wasn’t pulling away entirely from this but with such an admission she needed a moment to steady herself again.

"If you are," Jody nodded, letting her deal with his pants while he unbuttoned his cuffs before his dark fingers moved to his shirt. It wasn't something he did, hardly ever. He couldn't even remember if he'd taken off his shirt when they'd had that foursome before. He highly doubted it. It must've been a button up, too, opened to reveal his chest but only having just met her then and those two other slaves...
No, he wouldn't have.
He let his shirt drop to the floor and stepped out of his shoes and pants. He pulled his undershirt off, revealing age old scars that peaked around his waist and sides, a little over his shoulders. Proof of the abuse he'd just told her about moments ago. They had been desperate then, his terrified foster family, but careful enough not to injure the back of his neck. Every bruise and wound they had given that scared child, they had easily covered up or explained away. Whip lashes in attempt to drive a demon out, more than once, was much harder to do. He didn't know how many times. Either this form would emerge and he would forget or some other part of his brain was protecting him... The pain killers helped... The addiction he'd gained as a 15 year old boy made him forget more.
"Being vulnerable isn't something to be ashamed of." Jody said, almost as way of explanation. He smiled a little, looking more like his normal self that way. "I like you being honest with me.... Celine was a mask, Winter. A pretense for you to hide behind. But I don't think that's all she was... What if you could really start over? Did you create her because you were tired of being yourself?" His hands reached for her face again, cradling, stroking her hair. "It's hard. It's the hardest thing, being what other people expect you to be..."
Winter tried to analyze each of his words, looking for the lie, the clue to some nefarious plan, but after a long night of spell work and terror and their fight just before this… she was tired, too tired to try and anticipate some kind of attack.
As he kissed her jaw she let her eyes slip shut. Though his hands and lips and body were so cold, she felt as if she were beginning to melt. She was weary with dread and this small, brief relief, be it blessing or trap, was too tempting to resist. She heard more than saw his jacket fall to the floor and opened her eyes to see his waistcoat follow.
His words were a siren’s song. Oh how she longed to trust someone, to find a single safe harbor to rest in. She slowly closed the distance between them, looking more like a bunny ready to bolt in the other direction at the first sign of danger. A gentle hand lifted to the collar of his shirt. Feeling the cold she gently traced down the front to the edge of his beltless pants. Her own skin must have felt like fire compared to his temperature, or was he frozen so solid he was numb to it all?
This was such unfamiliar territory. She hadn’t flirted with him all night, she hadn’t made seductive promises and innuendo. She wasn’t hiding safely behind walls of lust and pleasure as she usually did. She’d shown her shaking and ugly self to him and now he was making his intentions for the evening clear. She was too tired to pick her walls back up, to plaster on a devilish smile and use some sensational line. Instead, she kept her eyes on Jody’s and softly undid the button on his dress pants. The last time they’d had sex she’d had the confidence and sway of a woman well versed in the sensual arts. Now, she felt more like the fumbling virgin as she dragged down the zipper of his fly.
“Are you sure?” she asked, unable to fathom his desire while she’d been so bare, so afraid and so frantic.

"Because I'm being honest with you... and I want you to be honest with me." Jody said quietly, gently. There was still an edge to his voice he didn't have when he looked more human, but there wasn't deceit there. He did want her to be honest. He did want better things for her. She was so powerful and she was wasting herself on being tormented by thoughts of betrayal and deception.
He kissed at her jaw, his hands moving against her hair and then down her back. He'd taken the mask off at some point, in one of her defensive replies, giving her his full attention. He now removed his jacket, tossing it aside on the floor of the bedroom, his blackened fingers moving to his waistcoat, taking a step back from her to make his intentions pretty clear. He was planning on staying for the night. It wouldn't be the first time they had sex, but things were very different between them now.
"I think that's all anyone wants, isn't it? Trust? Understanding?" He dropped the waist coat on the jacket. He wasn't wearing a belt, he normally didn't, usually wearing jeans. But even with his dress pants he wasn't, making getting undressed further even easier.
jodylinnel:
“Winter–”
When she was finish with her triade, Jody spoke. He stopped, his gaze moving to the candles at their flare before the room darkened. Not a problem for his monochromatic vision… but he was unbothered. Until he looked back to Winter. Knowing she was angry and vengeful was one thing, something to play defensively toward… But knowing she was scared, seeing it so plainly now…
“Winter,” Jody’s voice softened, moving until he gently held her face in his cold hands.
“No one ever mentioned ending you. Yes–” Jody admitted before Winter could correct him, “That was a consequence of …the attempt to stop you before… But no one is planning anything against you.” He moved to kiss her, leaning into the fear and wanting badly to see her even more vunerable… He wouldn’t harm her, she would kill him before she even knew it.
“I promise.”
.
Winter flinched even though his words were soft as he moved towards her. She was wound so tight, ready for the attack she was sure was coming.
She flinched again when he reached for her, this time from the cold which was all too similar to the death realm she knew too well. Her shaking increased, caught between the triggering temperature and the gentle touch a part of her desired.
She opened her mouth to protest his claim at first but he spoke before she could and she tried to listen. It was how she imagined Layla felt, to be reassured and softly comforted. She couldn’t deny that she had been envious of the girl, so very envious, even before her expulsion from Layla’s body. Winter wanted to dive deeper into this fantasy that she could be as cherished as that girl was, but it was just that, a fantasy. Another side of Winter roared that Jody could be lying, that this could be a chance to lower her guard before the killing blow. The only people who’d ever managed to hurt Winter in all her lives was those close to her, those who betrayed her. A tear slipped down her cheek as the two sides screamed at one another in her mind. How could she accept his words when she’d been–
Winter froze when his lips met hers.
The world seemed to still from the surprise of the act. Jody had kissed her. For a moment she thought his cold lips might have carried some frost spell to cause her stillness but there was no magic, just Jody. Without seduction or potion or spell, he’d seen her shaking spiralling darkness and kissed her for it…. and she began to kiss back, gingerly, timidly. When he pulled away she remained fixed in that spot, silent. Her mind had gone silent for a blissful moment and she nearly wept for the brief relief.
“… why…” she whispered, not even sure what she was questioning. The kiss or the promise or her own reaction to both?

Jody closed his eyes at the comfort of the woman he considered whole heartedly to be his sister, his best friend, his closest confidant when he was going through so much childhood trauma. She understood and cared for him like hardly anyone else, with the exception of her parents. Corrine was older, out of the house when she'd found Jody in his situation. She was loving but serious just like their mother. A quiet warmth. Judy took more after Abe, more outwardly and out spokenly affectionate. Something Jody had a hard time getting used to, or even accepting as a teenager. Now he was more than glad she was here.
"Someone was selling it. I don't really remember who, I don't think they're here anymore. But they didn't need it, so I picked it up. I figured A) it would be good for gardening. 2) it would be good for helping grant students move. That was the main reason for the truck," Jody opened the door for her, and went around to get in himself before pulling out towards Wade's restaurant.
"So, Wade's a vampire, he's a great friend. He has the cutest dog and will actually bring him into the restaurant sometimes so you might get to meet him. He's got the bluest eyes I've ever seen. Wade, I mean. Not the dog."
jodylinnel:
Jody chuckled as Judy showed her obvious exuberance in seeing him and his truck. He loved it, he was proud of it. It was very clean and well looked after. He never thought he’d ever be a ‘car guy’ but there was something special about this one.
He squeezed her as tight as he dared with his tricky back and then held her by the waist, to look her in the eyes.
“It’s good to see you. And I’m sorry. I was… It’s been difficult. But I should have, well, let you in. Not kept you away. I’m sorry, Jude.”
Feeling the squeeze around her made her feel like everything was going back to normal with them. It felt like the good old days when they see each other after school and hug each other before going to their rooms to read some of the comics Jody had picked up.
“Hey I know you were going through some things that even I couldn’t help so dont feel sorry. Im just glad you are safe and that you are not in danger anymore.” She kisses his nose softly before hugging him again. “Now tell me how you got this amazing truck and show me this amazing restaurant you’ve been praising about~”

[text] Yeah. But you deserve a fuss.
[text] Guess they got scared or bombed out. Sucks.
[text] No worries. Nothing to have realized. Never read it before. Just started a while ago. I like poems. They get on with what they're trying to say. A lot of it goes over my head, but yeah, I guess I like it. I think you get more caught up in taking care of other people. Just sayin.
[text] Booyah. Won that one like a boss. You pick the place, I'll pick up the tab. Can't wait to see you.

Tommy read over the note a couple of times, a gentle smile stuck on his face. He pulled out his phone and sent off a message.
Text: Hey! Happy Birthday! Were you able to do anything on your special day. Things have been so crazy. Shit is there even anywhere to go and celebrate?
Text: I know for 100% that I'm not the most thoughtful person you know, but I'm happy you like the gift. She has a poem called We Grow Accustomed to the Dark. It made me think of you.
Text: I'm totally down for lunch or dinner, but you should let me take you out!!!!
[text] You know me, I'm never one for a fuss.
[text] There's still places open on the Marina. I know a lot of people have left.
[text] I love the gift. I'm glad you like poetry so much. I'm sorry I didn't realize that before, I feel like we've just gotten caught up in our own lives I guess.
[text] All right, alright, whatever you want. LOL

Dear @tommyheavyshield
As ever you're the most thoughtful person I know.
I hope you're doing well. After all of this...
Let me take you out for dinner or lunch, whatever you want.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Love, Jody
To: Jody Linnel- @jodylinnel
Happy Birthday Jody! Couldn't think of the perfect gift for you, but then I saw one of this lady's poems and it reminded me of your for some reason. It's like light and dark all in the same place in the same words. Hope you like it. Let's get together soon. Tommy

"I have family I want to be close to. My foster parents, my sisters. Even though Judy is here now," Jody shook his head and rubbed his forehead, "Which is a whole other set of problems. And my mother. Maybe you're right, maybe she didn't look into Dad's family as much as she could have. But... he didn't--" Jody sighed, "She says he always said he didn't care. That he'd make his own family. She and I were all the family he needed. I think he was trying to protect us from whatever he thought he might find if he went digging."
Jody paused. He loved the small, few memories he had of his father. The time he remembered before he could even read of him and Mom and Dad being happy together in the trailer he grew up in. He savored those memories in his worst days of childhood. And they made him cry the hardest all at the same time.
His eyes welled with tears now and he picked up his glass, taking a deep breath and moved away into the kitchen to rinse out the booze and down a glass of water.
"So what's the other option? I'm... part demon or something? That doesn't entirely correspond with my research."
jodylinnel:
Jody huffed annoyed with Steele being… rather threatening about being annoyed. He wasn’t happy with it, but if the island’s magic was to be understood, and Steele wasn’t bullshitting him, Steele could only tell the truth. Jody never wanted to be drank from (until recently experimenting with Wade) and Steele knew it. Because of all of this, which they were about to discuss, Jody was always terrified he’d end up harming the person receiving the blood.
It was the ‘I love you’ that gave Jody pause. How off the cuff it seemed to Steele, as if they were still together. Well that was somewhat of a relief. Jody couldn’t reason with himself on getting back together with Steele, even if the affection was still there, not how they were now… But it was nice to know that wasn’t a lie to them. If that hadn’t caught him off guard suddenly, maybe he would have been less receptive to ‘possession’ being brought up again.
“My dad was an orphan as far as Mom knows, so there’s a dead end. She didn’t know any of his family. And possession, really? Do you think I’d be possessed and still walk around like it’s me?” Jody frowned at himself, the nonsense that sentence might have sounded. He took a last swig of his drink.
“It’s me.” He said with a sad determination. “And I think…” He stopped, shrugging, “I think I can’t leave here. The island. Being what I am.”
Steele couldn’t help but smirked at his huff. “Adorable little huffs are my thing, darling,” They teased. Maybe they didn’t need to go out to have fun with someone. There were other ways to enjoy themselves besides terrorizing them. Case in point, annoy the shit out of their ex.
“No disrespect to your mother, but just because she didn’t find any of them doesn’t mean some are not out to find, but we can put that in the maybe and possibly later date category. I do think you would still be walking around like you if you are possessed. Hell I’m pretty sure the last time I saw you, you were not yourself. “
“For someone that is talking to a mimic and is looking older than you actually are, you are sometime small minded. I am just suggestion you might have a little passenger attach to your lifeforce. Maybe they need you alive and yourself sometimes. Or there is the idea that maybe you aren’t human and your powers manifest as that version of you. Personally, I think it’s still you or at least partly you.”
“Don’t be so sad about it,” they said gently. “You aren’t a killer if that is slightly helpful, but again knowing you, I doubt you’ve find it helpful. Do you want to leave the island? What does the rest of the world honestly have to offer you? For all my love-hate for the island, I don’t want to leave.”

[text] He’s a nice guy. I like him a lot. He’s gotten me through some rough stuff. He’s a good friend. And a good restaurant owner? Haha. That didn’t sound how I wanted. It’s a good place to eat!
[text] Let’s go!
Jody pulled up in front of the dorm building not too long after, sending Judy another text saying he had arrived to pick her up. He was excited to see her. He was excited to show her his truck. He had been needlessly avoiding his sister. Being around her made him feel better. Safe. She always had. He should have taken advantage of that, not think that he was keeping her safe from himself. This was better.
Judy changes into a cute casual outfit excited to have lunch with her brother. They were slowly getting back together after being away for a couple of years. Even though she arrived they havent truly hanged out like they used to except the first time when he heard she arrived. But she was giving him space to reach out to her on his own terms even if it was killing her on the inside.
Receiving the text that Jody was out front she grabs her small purse to head out of the dorms. When she came out to see the truck she gasps with glee and runs over to hug her brother. “I love the truck!! Never thought of you owning a car here but I guess thats the perks of being a staff member huh?” She teases hugging him again but this time lingering it for a bit long. “I’m excited to try out this place.”
