10 years ago I was at my heaviest at 265lbs. I had no real drive in life and was in and out of relationships that led nowhere. A couple years later, I graduated from UC Berkeley, was burnt out, and spent the next couple years holed up in my room playing video games and watching anime. After losing someone I had thought was “the one that got away,” I realized I needed to grow up. I get a job, ironically at Toys’R’Us, and I met someone there that made me want to turn things around. I started working out and dropped 20lbs. Not long after, I find out that she died in a car accident. Fast forward a couple more years. Things start to pick up for me. I end up becoming a content writer for a startup, was with the most attractive girl I’ve dated so far at the time and was enjoying life. She ends up cheating on me with her ex, my dream job no longer required my services, and I fell into depression for the next couple of years. At the start of last year, I met someone. She made me want to be better. I get a job, start working out again, and start planning for a future. The only problem was that she was on the other side of the world. Things got complicated and took a turn for the worst. The relationship broke me and I ended things in June. I didn’t want to get my heart broken anymore. I needed things to change. I needed to change. At the beginning of August, I weighed in at 245lbs. I started taking the gym seriously, going in for three hours everyday after work and doubling up on the weekends. I was on a ketogenic diet and eventually incorporated intermittent fasting into the mix. By Thanksgiving, I had dropped down to 185lbs. The goal is 165lbs, exactly 100lbs from when I was at my heaviest, then I’ll tone up from there. I’m done getting my heart broken. I’m done being depressed. I’ve always had a fixation on televisions shows that made use of special effects and transformations, especially the ones that involved seemingly ordinary individuals that had the power to transform into super heroes. It’s probably because I’ve always dreamed of having the same abilities. In reality, while these heroes can transform in an instant, it can take the rest of us years. What matters the most is initiating that transformation sequence and following it through until it’s complete. So be your own hero. Transform. I felt doing a shoot with the Ulta-Act x S.H. Figuarts Ultraman (Special Ver.) was fitting for this post. What I love about this figure is the inclusion of a helmet-less head variant which depicts the character wearing the Ultraman suit in the manga. I also love that this style of Ultraman is a lot closer to an Iron Man Armor, giving it that more robotic and mechanical look over the standard spandex suit and helmet. Now that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out, I can finally cross that off of my list of games that I’ve been looking forward to. Next up in the queue are Kingdom Hearts III, GOD EATER 3, Jump Force and Code Vein (whenever that gets an official release date). Looks like the rest of the list will be in the PS4. The Kingdom Hearts S.H. Figuarts line is actually quite impressive in its own way compared to Square-Enix’s Bring Arts line (in terms of scale, detail, articulation and accessories). I’ve always loved Mega Man’s Final Smash since it pays homage to at least five generations of the blue bomber. Ever since Sentinel announced the release of these five variations of Mega Man in the 4-Inch-Nel line, I HAD to pick them up to recreate the Final Smash. It’s a good thing I got each one at the time of their release because they’re pretty expensive now. Who’s picking up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at midnight tonight? I’ve been a Gunpla enthusiast since my dad bought me my first Gundam model kit from Japantown back in 1993 (Jesus I’m old), and since then, I’ve been collecting Gundams on and off throughout my life. One of favorite series has to be Mobile Suit Gundam 00. For this shot, I wanted to recreate the final confrontation between Setsuna F. Seiei and his Gundam Exia R2 versus Ribbons Almark and the 0 Gundam. I don’t have as much time to collect, build and detail Gunpla like I used to, so I feel like the Robot Spirits line is a good alternative. You get a higher quality figure that isn’t likely to break with as much (if not more) articulation plus a variety of extra hands and other accessories depending on the mobile suit. As much as I love Pokémon (and trust me I do, I’m the type of trainer that’ll breed Pokémon with perfect IV/EV’s with ideal movesets for competitive gameplay), I’ve always been a bigger fan of Digimon because of the amount of depth in its storyline, characters, monster design and gameplay. I haven’t gotten around to watching Digimon Adventure Tri yet, but it is on my queue in my backlog of anime I need to get around to watching. As much as I wanted to pair Omegamon (Omnimon) with Diaboromon, Alphamon will have to do seeing as I couldn’t justify purchasing the Digivolving Spirits Diaboromon. I just want a dedicated figure, not a transforming one. Nonetheless, both the S.H. Figuarts Omegamon and Alphamon are amazing. The amount of detail on both figures is astounding, articulation is great, and the inclusion of all the accessories just sweetens the deal. The Mega Man X series has always been my favorite in Capcom’s Mega Man franchise, and while many prefer the Z-Saber-wielding Zero, I’ve always preferred X myself. While both X and Zero have always been comrades in the fight against Sigma, Zero was actually created by Dr. Wily to rival X, Dr. Light’s final creation, much like Mega Man and Protoman’s relationship. In Mega Man X5, we finally get a showdown between X and Zero. Expect more Mega Man X photoshoots from me in the future. I’m actually a huge Mega Man X fan, so when Bandai released the D-Arts line, I had to pick up every figure I could get my hands on. I’m only really missing the Mega Man X Comic Ver. which I’m not too fond of in terms of design. These have to be the most accurate depictions X, Zero and a slew of other characters from the series with amazing detail and articulation. One last Tadashi cosplay pic before I get back to posting new music and more toy photography, lol. It’s November now and we’re right in the middle of Fall. I love the holidays, even it does get a little lonely during the cuddle season, but that’s okay because “we’re back in hardware mode,” and I’m due for a major remodel, so unless someone’s willing to date a work-in-progress, I’ll just focus on me for now.
