week6
Since the last week, I came to think more about what the topic was for me to do research. I want to think deeper into the collaboration, especially in the virtual world, and what people think of it. In social life, if I collaborate with people something, I feel pressure and responsibility of something that I have to complete until the end, but in the game spaces, I feel less pressure because the game is for relieving stress as long as I am not a professional gamer, so I can end up whenever I want, and it does not have a big impact on my work.
While I played the game, I interviewed my friends, whom I got to know through the game. When I asked them why they liked to play with strangers, one of the friends said he played the game to relieve stress because he could complete common quests and meet strangers for fun without the burden of getting to know people deeply or worrying about their feelings a lot. I agreed with him. Usually, when I collaborate with someone, I think a lot about how I can be more helpful and how I act or work in some way that person will like this in the real world. To be honest, I was one of those people who had a strong antipathy to doing something with a complete stranger in virtual. But after meeting some people at random in the virtual world, the antipathy disappeared because I was not dating or having a deep relationship with someone, but just communicating to play games. And when I met a good game partner, I played a few more times and built friendships.
I read an article that Robert shared for my project. This article is about 9 years old and 79 years old people who communicated five weeks anonymously and met. I really like this statement, "This would simply be two human beings building a connection by sharing stories of their hopes and fears. A relationship built on meaning rather than appearance." People tend to care about first impressions. So there are people who are difficult to talk to, and I think this is why I said it is comfortable to cooperate anonymously with someone.
By the way, the video in this article is so touching…..

Now I need to find some negative aspects of collaboration in the virtual world. Some people curse and say brutal words because they don't see other's faces. (I've had it, too.) As it is easy to communicate anonymously and cooperate, there are many people who don't think of others. Also, If I have a chance to meet someone who says harsh things to me while playing game, and I'm going to interview them. It's kinda stereotype, but most elementary school kids do that… and I will interview some people who feel uncomfortable to talk in the virtual world because of their personalities or lifestyles.

Week 4
My three topics were game, sustainability materials, and finding trendy restaurant. Now, to find a specific and clear researches, I want to focus on one topic deeper. I am going to research about psychology of collaboration with other people who are acquaintances or anonymous.
I found that more than 166 million adults played video games in the US. And 2.4 billion people play mobile games. Americans play video games every week in 2019. I said I don’t like collaborating with other people when I work, but in the game, I like to play with other people and I found the reason why I am doing it, because in the game, anonymity is guaranteed in the game and it is fun to grow and grow game characters as I want, regardless of other people’s eyes.
<interviewing>
One of the methods would be interview people who had an experience of working or playing with other people.
To me, to have a clear answer and to understand easier, interviewing is one of the good way through the conversation. I want to ask why people are playing game with other even you don’t like cooperation with other people in the real world.
<Scholarly method>

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/311792939_The_effects_of_playing_cooperative_and_competitive_video_games_on_teamwork_and_team_performance
The book says true cooperation often forms organically without external enforcement. Recently, cooperation seemed to have effortlessly sprung up between people who might not even had previous connections. So this book is about study we investigate how games can induce and cultivate we-intention of working as a group
I found a journal that is about “collaboration.” This author explains the importance and benefit of collaboration.

Research Methods
Before I started my research on my questions, I looked at some methodologies and analyzed what I needed. I haven't put my research into every method yet, but I've chosen the three most touching ones. In my opinion, overall, my topics are related to the surrounding environment and human psychology, so my research on topics is mainly about observing people.
Interview- I said, I like to play the game with other people, so sometimes I turn on the microphone and play games with strangers. But I wouldn't say I like group work with people I met for the first time in the real world. My question was to find a connection between the real world and the game world about cooperation. So I need to find some people who like not only to play the game together but also to work together.
Secondary research- I need to do some research based on scholarly information. I can look up some articles about a study case the benefits of games Or how people can release their stresses through play games or other entertainment. Scientific proof that stress is relieved through entertainment.
Questionnaire- A lot of people play different kinds of games. Some people like action games, while others like role-playing or arcade games. So, through this method, I can see a lot of information about why people prefer that kind of game and the habits of playing the game. Also, for my third topic, which is finding a trendy restaurant, I want to ask some questions in a trendy restaurant. I'll be able to ask the visitors. How did they come to this restaurant? Did they see the menu or see the atmosphere of the restaurant? Is this restaurant close to the house? Do you think we'll eat here even if there's a waiting line? Is there a difference between what you saw in the picture and what you ate? Was it worth it if you came from afar to eat only this food?

Questions about my topics
<Games>
There are many differences between the game world and the real world, but games gain a sense of accomplishment by developing my game character and completing the quests. In this regard, what are the similarities and differences between the sense of accomplishment in their daily lives and in playing games?
I like to play games together, and I don't know if it has any connection between the real world and the gaming world. is there a connection between the real world and the game world?
Do you prefer group activities with many people in reality to play games with others? If you don't like cooperation with people in real life, why do you cooperate and play in games?
Also, I play games to relieve stress from everyday life or to relieve boredom.However, don't you get more stressed playing games with others? What causes stress while playing games?
<Sustainable materials>
How does meeting products with sustainable stone materials affect consumer awareness? Do they encourage consumers to spend more? Can you only look at it with good influence?
As a product designer, what are the limitations of a product that can only be made with sustainable materials?
What are the views on whether plastic or disposable vinyl will completely disappear? While alternative materials will be cheaper in terms of price, what are the chances that they will be easier to obtain?
<Finding nice restaurants>
Why do some people seek new foods or changed flavors due to fusion? What is the marketing strategy of merchants to keep changing the traditional taste of food?
In my case, I look up a lot of reviews and photos through social network before finding good restaurants.
So, how much does SNS like Instagram affect users' visits to good restaurants?
Do people just listen to bloggers on the Internet and visit? So do users want to see only random people's posts and take the risk of visiting them?
I have experience of visiting the restaurant without looking at the food picture but looking at the interior of the restaurant. Is there a correlation between food plating and interior design at restaurants?

Areas of Interest
1. Game
Trigger ( Mobile game controller)
I have an older brother, so I naturally played a lot of games since I was young. Recently, during quarantine, I was looking for several stores to buy Nintendo Switch and later I got bored to play it alone, so I found a game that I could play with my friends easily. I usually prefer mobile games that can be played easily regardless of place, especially I enjoy the gunfight game called PUBG. The graphic of the game is realistic, so you can lose the game even with a small mistake, and the exact aim of shooting is very important. While playing the game, I began to watch PUBG YouTube videos of masters, and bought equipment called triggers to have better aim for shooting. As I bought the equipment for the game, my cell phone became a game console, and I was interrupted by contact during the game, so I decided to use another cell phone, that I didn’t use, as a game console.
2. Sustainable materials
Knit bag that made by recycled plastic bottle
I took packaging design class in my junior year. One of the many projects was to choose one of the currently existing packaging designs and redesign it with sustainable materials to save the environment. Through the class, I learned that Product designers need to make something more efficient and think about the environment in the process of designing rather than the goal of creating something nice. These days, when I buy a product, I have a habit of looking at what material its packaging is made of, and I become more interested in products that made with eco-friendly elements and recycling. Especially, some clothes and bags that made by recycling plastic bottles are really nice, so I keep buying them.
3. Looking for trendy restaurants or food
Starbucks in South Korea
Croffle (croissant+waffle)
In Korea, food culture is developed, it seems to Korea has food from almost every country, and many various cafes, so you can taste various food and desserts. Ever since I came to Korea, I've been eating out a lot to meet my friends. When I choose a restaurant I have never been to, I value food plating and the interior of the restaurant. All famous restaurants usually seem to succeed in marketing because of the interior. I usually look for good restaurants through postings on Instagram. Recently, I became obsessed with desserts. Korea made macaron's filling thicker, and I wanted to eat it so much even I was in the U.S., so I went looking for macaron famous restaurants. Also, a dessert called Croffle is popular. Croffle is waffle that made with croissant dough and waffle machine. so I'm looking for a cafe where Croffle is delicious.
