Did you always imagine Keyframes would be more than just a typical dating sim/life sim kinda VN? What I mean by that is the relationships taking center stage, but not romantic ones as such, is pretty rare unless it's JUST the romance. But this feels more like friendships where romance is possible but not a must (though I have a crush in every playthrough lmao) and that's so rare. Was that always intended or did it develop along the way?

Before Keyframes was Keyframes, the initial premise was that you were already dating someone, and the whole thing was just gonna be about maintaining that relationship by actually making an effort to get to know them/keep the bond you have with them.

Something something about how dating someone isn’t a finality or a happily ever after like in most VNs— it still takes continued time and effort to be in someone’s life.

So I always wanted to make something that focused on what it meant to make a bond and the steps one needs to take to make it stronger and lasting.

But then I graduated college, and I started missing a lot of my friends and the little time we had together. Eventually what was going to be a main cast of one grew to six. What was only going to span a year of gameplay now takes a little over two haha

It’s still more or less the same idea— in that you still have to work and choose to work to keep the people you want in your life to stay in your life— but now you get to see how it got to that point, that is if you wanted to it to get there in the first place ^^,

And so TLDR— it was always intended for romance to be a secondary, because I only cared about a story of making bonds and what it takes to keep it.

So if it feels “slow” or there’s not enough romance— well I hate to break it to ya buddy haha romantic love was never my priority.
