Envy

At my school, there is this girl.

She’s, like, half my height and wears those silly cartoon shirts.

Every break i see her, no matter how short it is, or how many faces blur around, she’ll dance.

She’ll take a running start, twirl, strike a pose, and keep going.

Another twirl, a turn, a jump, beaming smile in all in place.

Her glasses move with her, her hair flies behind, all in harmony with a music no-one else can hear,

her imaginary audience probably cheers.

But my friend sneers and smirks, turns to us and blurts, “you see that girl?”

The others giggle, as if she told a stupid joke.

Why are they laughing? I dont understand,

because I cant help but watch in awe

This child, breathing in her own world, bright, carefree as anyone should be,

she dances to her own song, her own beat, moves her own two feet,

While im stuck giggling along, while im stuck smiling and laughing, even though all i feel is all-consuming envy.

I love that the tension between Snotlout and Hiccup went from Snotlout openly underminding Hiccup's authority and constantly trying to one-up him in Riders of Berk to their dynamic in Race to the Edge, where Snotlout essentially just goes "No, don't like your plan, no I don't have a better one, yes I am going to listen to you, but I will be whining and complaining the entire time, as is my right."
