Another thought about the twin Athenide au
Y'all know that thing where either Hermes or Apollo step into the fountain while the Athenide is first born(that future historians or teens joking around on social media would call it the first attempt at craddle robbing in history) to look at the "newborn" and lowkey start flirting with her? I was thinking about that and I also thought that Arsinoe ended up swipping a knife from Hermes' belt so she could have something to protect herself and her sister with while Perse soaked Apollo with cold water and kicked him out of the fountain and away from where her naked sister is (she's also naked) (she doesn't think much about her own safety)
Just two newborn goddesses, one calculating with exact precision how much damaged she could do to you with the knife you have no idea she got that good with and the other with full control over their birth waters looking ready to drown a bitch bc they breathed a bit too wrong near her sister.
Their parents' pride fr

A little bit curious... What would be the dynamic of Perse and Apollo if they married sooner? Like, without a few moments of their slow burn?
morticia and gomez addams
evelyn and rick o'connell
hera and kanan
they would have been the healthiest, the best, the most jaw dropping married couple.
they would be this cat family
Tumblr media
Apollo at that one dinner: See Helios? this is how you're supposed to treat your wife. It's not as hard as you made it out to be. It's the easiest thing in the world. It's easier than breathing. See how Perse looks radiant? See how she embodies my light refracting on her waters? this is how a wife is supposed to look like Rhodes next to Perse, watching her ex husband get dragged: get him
Zeus: you're monogamous? Helios: you don't ever get the urge to cheat? Apollo: what like it's hard?

Steve Rogers Trauma: A TED TALK
Why is it that any kind of commentary/analysis on Steve Roger's trauma has to be met with comparisons to Bucky or Tony's trauma? Or most of the fanfics I read completely gloss over Steve's trauma?
Some of y'all legit do not care or are blind to Steve Roger's trauma throughout the Captain America & Avengers films and it shows. And this isn't hate to any fanfic writers but rather an observation of most stucky and stony fanfics which seem to minimize Steve's character & trauma in favour of highlighting their fave's. And of course it's fine that people want to write about Bucky or Tony or even Nat's trauma, but MOST TIMES* I've read these fics and they all have an intentional disregard for Steve's traumas.
And this speaks to the wider discourse around Tony, Bucky & Steve- the three characters most written about in mcu fanfics.
Because why is it that anytime I bring up Steve's PTSD or his illnesses or the hell he would've gone through pre-serum, people always HAVE to add in their 2cents about, "well yeah & Bucky went through worse." Like.???? No, I'm not talking about him.
I absolutely love Bucky and he's one of my favourite characters in both the comics and the MCU but, respectfully, this ain't about him.
I'm talking about Steve and his life. The crap he would've had to deal with both in public and at home. Especially the horrors both he and Sarah would've gone through because of Joseph Rogers who was a terrible person and an alcoholic who beat up on his wife and sickly kid.
And even post-serum when he's completely healthy and living in the future now, I'm still seeing popular narratives about "Yeah he's alive now & hasn't gone through half of what Bucky's endured over the past 70yrs." OR "He's had it easy compared to Bucky who was being tortured by HYDRA."
Um, no one's saying Bucky's treatment under HYDRA was a good thing??? But we're talking about Steve here, not Bucky?
And how he was literally frozen in a state of purgatory & how traumatic it would feel to be ripped out of it and then basically thrown to the new world on your ass without any kind of therapy or help. Most people make it seem like Steve was in a Sleeping Beauty kind of sleep and then woke up completely fine. And I will admit the MCU has been the main culprit of that narrative because they deleted so many scenes that humanized Steve Rogers, that now the gen pop thinks:
he's perfectly fine
has zero trauma
should complain about nothing
hasn't had it hard like Bucky or Tony
is a lesser hero because of all of the above
I recently had a convo with a friend & we were talking abt the scene in Avengers 1 when they were all at each other's throats. And they said that Tony was right about Steve being a laboratory experiment & everything special about him came out of a bottle. And I'm like... yeah nah, that's the lazy ass writing that Whedon perpetuated that now makes Steve one of the most misunderstood heroes & people in the MCU. Because he was special before the serum because of his consideration of others. He was special because not only did he hate bullies, but he also went out of his way to protect those that couldn't protect themselves KNOWING what that confrontation might cost him as a chronically sick person. Tony needed a whole ass arc about literally witnessing & living first hand what his weapons were doing to innocents like Yinsen & his people, to change his ways. Steve didn't have, nor did he need any of that to make him special. (AND BEFORE THE TONY STANS COME FOR ME, I LOVE TONY, HE'S LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVES IN THE MARVEL COMICS & MCU) But this hatred for Steve is ridiculous.
And once again, it's the MCUs fault because they made Tony the ultimate hero of the Avengers at the expense of Steve Rogers' character. Him being able to prove he was "worthy" all along by lifting Thor's hammer was a cheap payoff in the end, much like the entirety of Endgame was. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

writing characters who are doomed
#1. show the death flags
okay. look. if you’ve consumed enough media, you KNOW when a character is going to die. if they’re either:
kind, caretaking, and sweet
cry easily
a sibling/best friend of the main character
someone with a bright future
is hardworking
make these death flags EXTREMELY evident. literally splatter it on your readers face.
#2. hope
don’t kill off the doomed characters immediately - draw it out, show them close to death, but allow them to survive. show them thrive. show them fighting and growing and make your reader extremely attached to them (its helpful if this character has a relatable backstory and personality!) give them hope that this character will survive. a really good tactic is waiting till the very end, when the conflict is presumed to be over, and giving your readers a false sense of security - and BAM. death. can you tell im still grieving over prim
#3. why are they doomed?
in order to add more depth to a doomed character’s death - think about the reasons why they are doomed in the first place apart from shock value. does it add to your plot? prim’s death in the hunger games is to prove, even after the war and violence ended, just how futile the entire point of war is. similarly, what is your story trying to prove? what is it trying to tell its readers?

Going feral over the fact that in the pjo time, Percy is haunting her own story in big and little ways. Annabeth gives Percy a token and says 'Athena and Poseidon together' and Ares sees their daughter, his niece, the only time they've been truly united. Percy listens to young Nico's ramblings and does her best to protect him and Hades sees Perse letting Zagreus chatter at her. Percy fights with Riptide and Zoë sees the goddess who went against one of her demigods for her. Percy carries a plant through the underworld looking for Hades' sword and Persephone sees her best friend guiding souls with kindness. Percy helps a younger camper and Dionysus sees his mother who raised him. Percy takes the sky and Artemis sees her best friend doing everything in her power to support her. Percy worries for Annabeth, races across the country to save her, spirals, and Aphrodite sees the Athenide crying for her son in the middle of a war. Percy goes on a quest to rescue her mother and Amphitrite sees every time her daughter told her she loved her. Percy loves her friends and family fiercely and the gods see Loyalty, who loved them and cherished them and only ever tried to help. And Perseleia Athenide is gone, has been gone for millennia, but here is a little mortal that is just like her, who grows to be more and more like her every time they look. And they hate her for it, yet they hate themselves more.
Percy is haunting her own narrative
the gods want to hate her and yet, this demigod, one of the beloved goddess’ many adoptive children, is here with her name and her face
this demigod who’s existence is a spit in the face to Loyalty’s oaths
this demigod who has her eyes, her smile, her stubbornness
the gods want to hate her
and yet they can’t help but love her

Thinking about Roman Emperors in the Athenide verse...
Thinking about how he compares himself to Apollo and demands to be worshiped instead.
Thinking about how in that regard, he marries only black haired people with green eyes.
Thinking about how it guts Athena/Minerva, Apollo, and Poseidon/Neptune each time Nero murders and executes his wives, especially wife #2 who happens to be pregnant at the time...
Thinking about how Nero being named after Nerio Fides yet spits on her very domains.
Thinking about how Nero commits infidelity, matricide, uxoricide, he castrated a young boy because he looked like his dead wife that he murdered and married him and called him by the dead wife's name.
Thinking about how each wedding would have been a symbolic marriage between "Apollo" and "Fides" only for it to end with Nero killing his wives again and again.
Thinking about Caligula so determined to have Nerio Fides as his wife that he also has a type for black haired, green eyed women only to kill them or exile them.
Thinking about how Caligula abducted Livia Orestilla from her own wedding and divorced her because she remained faithful to her first husband and was exiled for "adultery".
Thinking about how Commodus and how he thought himself to be the rebirth of Hercules and brutally murdering in the gladiatorial arena
you know... for funsies :)
