Animation // Finished Movie Poster Animated movie poster for Klaus, I had to compress it quite a bit to be able to upload it to tumblr. It was fun figuring out all the things I could do in Adobe Animate. I’m pretty happy with the outcome, though there are definitely things I could have done better, such as making it longer and fixing some of the cut out mistakes.

Animation // Cleaned up Background Took me an entire day to cut out all the characters and text. The result looks decent, though there are a few places that look a bit off. Just don’t zoom in.

Animation // Movie Posters I got my first choice, animation. Our first brief is to find a movie poster, and animate it. I looked through the DVDs in the library to find movies that have interesting box art, and also looked up some movies I’ve seen before. In the end I decided to go with Klaus, even though it seems a bit daunting I think it has the most potential.

Those of you out there who haven’t seen Netflix series, Hilda, I highly recommend watching it. You’ll never find a more wholesome/fun/intriguing urban fantasy anywhere else,(it’s on par with Studio Ghibli in my opinion).

Animation // Finished Piece Finished animation for the elective, drawn in Procreate. The new animation feature in Procreate helped me a lot in making this, especially the onion skin option. I couldn’t find an “oink” I liked online, so I made one myself by recording and pitching myself in Audacity. I got the ambient sounds/music from Tabletop Audio. I then timed/cut the audio with the animation using Adobe Premiere Pro.

Animation // Colour Looking at different colours and backgrounds for my animation. I thought the colours of the first image were a bit too orange, making it almost seem as if it was taking place at dawn. I wanted it to feel more like midday, so I toned down the orange and brightened the colours slightly.

Animation // Inspiration Images from some cartoons/illustrations that have helped me with my animation in some way. I saw Hilda after I made Ophelia, and I think the animation style is very close to what I would like to be able to do in the future. I love the character/creature design, and the backgrounds are beautiful. Waddles from Gravity Falls helped me figure out how I wanted Hamlet to move. Ruby Roth’s illustration style for her books is one of my favourites, I love how she simplifies forms/shapes and her colour choices. Adventure Time’s style is very simplistic and fun, and it plays around a lot with proportion and stretching.

Animation // Character Turnarounds Turnarounds for Hamlet and Ophelia. When I originally drew Ophelia, I didn’t think much about how her body would work under her coat, so I gave her a small redesign.

Animation Elective // Animatic I thought I’d use this elective as an opportunity to animate Hamlet and Ophelia, as I’ve had fun drawing them ever since I created them. This animatic shows them going to a park and planting a sapling.

Painting Elective // Ink Process of thumbnailing to painting. The last painting was done using the side of a card dipped in ink, which I quite enjoyed. I liked having the ability to create crisp lines while also having small drops of ink getting flicked off the card.
