20/04/2023 GDC Anthony Burrill Talk

Today we were given a talk by Anthony Burrill about his work, process, and how he got himself into the industry as a graphic designer. Primarily using the letterpress, Anthony has made many works. His biggest accomplishment was a piece of his work upscaled to the size of a buildings wall. The talk was very inspiring and gave me knowledge about the process that is undertaken to get into the industry of graphic design.

18/04/2023 GDC Anthony Burrill Final Poster Design

Today we finished our final posters from Anthony Burrill's XYZ series designs. I decided to scrap the last two final concepts because I got better feedback about the final design I made today in Adobe Illustrator.

This is my final poster design which represents the ocean and beach. The word "Anthropocene" is included as garbage washed up on the beach.

From the 8 concepts I developed, I picked these 2 designs because I like the composition of them and how I implemented the word anthropocene. They represent how great our planet earth is yet we destroy it with our own wants.

I made another mindmap after multiple thumbnails to narrow down the areas I mainly want to look at for the poster which are terrain, motorbike parts, road signs, and textures.

After the analogue moodboard, I made a digital version.

Planning:

I first started planning out the layout of the moodboard through sketches on 4 different panels.

After picking which one I like the most, I used that design and placed imagery which contains my original photographs and some taken from the internet in adobe illustrator.

Thumbnailing Pt.2

After looking back at my other thumbnails and words associated with my festival, I drew more thumbnails to help in designing the festival poster.

I looked at more clothing, the journeys environment, and mechanical parts of the motorcycle.

We were given an exercise to use Adobe illustrator to express cocktails that every person has randomly chosen on paper. My cocktail ended up being the "Painkiller", which originated from the British Virgin Islands.

Today we made our own moodboards that expressed textures and the vibe of our project for the poster design. I used magazine cutouts along with some sharpie drawings. While I was producing the moodboard I focused a lot on the landscape and its textures.

A collection of drawings I made directly translating some of the words I have chosen to draw from my brainstorming and mind map for the poster design. I decided to do logos aswell as a form of studying layout, colour and some typography.

I brainstormed and mindmapped words that I associate with the poster design I am aiming for which is essentially a motorcycle festival. Since this is an original festival and not existing, I decided to name it "Bike 66".
