Oh my Gosh, reading this incredible interview has literally made me cry. Unfortunately, many parents [such as Elon Musk] cannot accept that their children aren't what they have wished for... [hint: mini versions of themselves]. So they keep trying to over-control their kids' behavior, causing the opposite result: rebellion, or worse, a petition to name change and refusal to communicate.

Passing life as a member of the highly-respected social group called "mainstream", seems to have a massive impact on your views. I understand why many people cannot sympathize with the trans community and minorities - because, viola! - they are minorities. And most of us still aren't. We are the majority, normal, average. How could we possibly relate to someone different than us, without the unbearable need to try and "fix" them?

The answer, I assume, is empathy.
