thinking about the time I was in ballet and during a performance I was in a private dressing room and this other ballerina knocked on the door and asked to come in and hang out between acts and I was like sure and he sat down and he was like “anyway” before I even said something “what are your theories on bigfoot? I think he’s an interdimensional being,” then he explained why with such confidence that I believed him fully and then before I could add on he was like “oh that’s your cue” and I had to go do pique turns or whatever as if my life weren’t changed

Her mate laughed softly, seemingly unsurprised by the question.

“That’s a question for Rhys. Or Az. Are you planning on some kind of covert mission?”

“No,” Nesta said with a sigh. “One could dream though. Actually, I asked her something else.”

“And what’s that?”

Letting out a soft breath, she folded her hands in her lap. She wasn’t sure why she was so nervous. If the last few weeks had taught her anything it was that little could phase Cassian, when it came to their relationship.

Her silence prompted him to set his work aside and offer her his full focus.

“Sweetheart?”

Nesta lifted her chin, readying herself, and replied,

“I asked her how she would envision being intimate with someone after what she has – is – suffering.”

Cassian stilled, his eyebrows raising just slightly.

“Oh.”

I love, love, LOVE it when I can tell a fic author has integrated their specialized knowledge in a fic. I was reading a fic that at some point included the character going to visit an art therapist, and it's so clear that the author is an art therapist themself, and the details included are just immaculate and I love it. I've previously read about a character doing fencing for no other reason than the author clearly wanting to write a sport they understood. A character being given a hyperfixation on bugs just so the author can infodump themselves.
