The Bees and the Significance of Colour

We know that colours play an important role in RWBY. But what does that have to do with Bumblebee? Well, let me explain. 

Blake’s colour is black. Her outfit consists of Black, White and Purple. That’s pretty much her entire colour scheme. Her Volume 2 outfit has tiny hints of purple in it too, but it’s more obvious with her Volume 4 outfit. But when you look closely at her Volume 4 outfit you will notice golden details that contrast her whole colour scheme pretty nicely and bring it all a bit more together. 

Yang’s colour is yellow and her outfit consists of various shades of brown, orange and yellow. Warm colours that fit together nicely, apart from the purple leg band she’s wearing in Volume 1-3. It’s even more present in her Volume 2 outfit. The purple is a nice contrast to her usual colour scheme, just like the gold details in Blake’s Volume 4 outfit. 

She doesn’t wear the leg band in her Volume 4 outfit. 

But the purple detail isn’t missing, even though it’s not that obvious. Her hairband is purple. 

In Volume 5 she wears her leg band again, the purple even looking more vibrant now. 

We know that eye colours are pretty important in RWBY and picked deliberately. Weiss’ eyes are a light shade of blue, Ruby’s silver eyes are important to the plot, so why doesn’t Yang have an eye colour that matches her aura? And why does Blake have golden eyes that don’t fit her colour scheme at all? Is it just a coincidence that Yang and Blake have one colour that contrasts their usual colour scheme, and it’s their partner’s colour? Out of all the colours they could have picked? 

Let’s talk about the leg band again for a minute. It’s likely that Yang adapted that accessory from her father, who���s wearing a red arm band. 

I mean it’s pretty unlikely that a simple piece of cloth references someone’s broody emo girlfriend, right? 

Actually there is another character who’s wearing an arm band. The arm band sticks out and is the only thing purple in Kali’s outfit. 

Guess who that purple could reference… 

Another instance of colours being a deliberate choice in RWBY and referencing someone are the JN_R Volume 4 outfits. Each of them have red details in their outfits to pay tribute to Pyrrha and reference. Jaune even wears the red cloth Pyrrha had been wearing before. Another instance of someone wearing a piece of fabric in reference to someone they are or have been close to, the band being in their partner’s colour. 

Ren and Nora are another example of colours being picked very deliberately in RWBY. They both share the colour pink to show that they’re very close. 

And last but not least, Ruby’s entire outfit is a reference to both her mum and her beloved uncle. 

Of course I’m reaching a lot with this post and this isn’t exactly evidence for anything, but it’s something I’ve noticed and that I wanted to share with other shippers who might enjoy it. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
