In order to understand the context of some of his lyrics, since Yoongi talks about loneliness a lot in his mixtape, I want to remind everyone of this.

His parents support him now (this is important so don’t go demonizing his parents please) but that wasn’t always the case. In Move, Yoongi mentioned that he moved to Seoul in 2010. And he’s said before in an interview that his parents started to fully support his dream about half a year after their debut.

Their debut was in July 2013 and so a half year after that is about January 2014. So from 2010 to 2014, for about 4 years, he didn’t have his family’s full support.

Now this was also around the time of his financial struggles, his worries about the future, his social phobia, and even his physical health (as he has alluded to sleep deprivation due to school, work, and practice).

So he had to deal with all of these issues and worries while he was in a city where he didn’t have his family’s support and the people that were with him and around him were essentially his competition. 

It just amazes me that he spent so long dealing with so many struggles and uncertainties in an unfamiliar place with a sense of hopelessness (as we can see from his lyrics) and still he managed to stay strong and not give up. He dealt with (and still deals with) depression, OCD, social anxiety and phobia, and yet he’s always talking about reaching his dreams and working harder. He had so much hope for the future and it’s incredibly inspirational and comforting.

Min Yoongi is honestly one of the most optimistic people I know.
