This is my father, Retired, Disabled US Navy Veteran, Frank Chope with his grand daughter, Sara. For 22 years, my dad fought for our country in over 8 years worth of tours overseas. He never faced hardship until he retired and my mother divorced him. Currently, my dad is fighting to get his retirement that HE earned back from my "clean" alcoholic, drug abuser mother. Every month, my dad owes her $1400 for child support PLUS half of his retirement and pension. The kicker? Our household income is $1200 a month, which barely covers our monthly bills along with food. My dad is still paying child support for 4 of his kids, including me, who are over the age of 18 and also paying for a child who is not his own. My mother was supposed to lose her share of my dads money when she remarried but did she? Of course not. Every time my dad tries to fix all of these problems, he is told that he has to pay for a lawyer to fight it in court or go down to Florida himself and take care of it, which we obviously cant afford either. The courts still give him the runaround while we eat ramen and toast as meals and struggle to make ends meet. As of right now, my dad owes my mother almost $80,000 in back child support. If my father were to step foot in Florida, he would be arrested for the back child support. He is fighting for disability and continues to be denied what he obviously deserves after nearly giving his life for our country. Is this the justice our veterans deserve? Is this what they should look forward to when they risk everything? I can only hope someone further up in our government hears my plea for help for my dad
