Haaaaaah im sorry to bring it into your inbox but it's absolutely killing me the way people talk about c3, particularly purple black heart, all these months later because it comes at the expense of the characters from other campaigns, even the ones by the same player. Reddit(yes I know.) had a popularity poll of the PC characters, and I'm seeing posts lamenting im0dna's low placement, most egregious being one i just saw on tumblr that "of course the sexy woman(Vex) and the silly woman(Jester) are the two female characters in the top 10 while THE MOST COMPLEX WOMEN are voted the LEAST" and it's just. How fucking disrespectful and not paying attention do you have to be to reduce Vex and Jester to some flat archetype implying they're palateable cookie cutter. It feels vastly more misogynistic than whatever treatment they perceive their faves to receive

I know exactly the post you're talking about, anon, and the attitude really is profoundly embarrassing. Like, if I had been declaring for three business years that everyone who doesn't like my blorbos is a misogynist, I simply would not show my whole ass like that in public in the main tag.

This speaks to a broader issue, though, and is part of why I held off answering this for a bit. Imo/dna shippers will never acknowledge that their own behavior—or their fellow shippers' behavior—is the real reason a lot of people don't like them, and it doesn't help their ship's case either (especially not when the primary complaint about that ship is that it's bland and anodyne). It's easy to point fingers and pretend everyone's just a bigot; otherwise, they'd have to answer for their constant harassment and dogpiling and insufferable tantrum-throwing about how their faves and their ship and their fanon are sacrosanct to the exclusion of everything else. (They might even have to question whether or not endlessly parroting other people's memes and phrases is a substitute for critical thought; god forbid we take away their inalienable right to say girlfailure). It's much easier for these shippers to insist that no no we always get unfairly picked on, we're Just Having Fun shipping sweet wholesome wlws, please ignore all the times we harassed people—or let people get harassed—for saying our ship is boring.

The simple reality is this: Beau/yasha shippers don't act like this. Do/rym and Perc/ahlia shippers don't act like this. Pike/lan and Callow/moore and Fjor/ester shippers don't act like this. Even Shadow/gast shippers don't act like this—and to be clear a number of them during C2's run also had entitlement issues and melted down when things didn't go their way, but they still generally cared about the rest of the show. All of those ships have been attacked for infinitely more stupid reasons (remember "Beau/yasha is a lesbian ship for the straights"?), but their fandoms still do not have a vocal and tolerated missing-stair contingent of people who pitch fits about how everyone is mean to them because of bigotry and then turn around and tear down other queer female characters and ships for not being, well, Purple Heart and Black Heart.

The issue is not, and never has been, liking a ship or liking characters or using silly heart emojis or having popular headcanons; everyone has done that for years, and by itself it's harmless. The issue is that these fans not only don't care about anything other than their blorbos and favorite ship, they actively resent and disdain everything else that the show is doing and everyone else who likes those things, including the cast. Take a look at the specific people who have been complaining nonstop about the C3 wrapup and Divergence and the live shows and Wildemount Wildlings and Daggerheart and Age of Umbra and "CR is bad at communication" about Campaign 4—you'll notice a common thread pretty quickly.

A lot of people don't like Imo/dna shippers or their ship because they act ugly and neither the ship nor the characters' story arcs are good enough quality to compensate. That's it.
