For part two of @hesperious-sands we switch from kites to lanterns! It was almost more kites but I was convinced that lanterns were super cool too. This was probably where the style started embracing the brush strokes in both of them.

The hardest thing about drawing the "You shouldn't have trusted them" trope is portraying it in the first place. Perhaps my first idea would have sold it better, but there's something about taking Crowfather a bit more literally that's really nice.

I couldn't quite manage a story for this idea, but I can give you a little brainrot for it:

Technoblade goes to visit his uncle in a small town somewhere out west. It's a dying sort of place that had industry at one point but fizzled beneath the decline of river and train travel. Their biggest claim to fame- a harvest god that dwells within the woods, harassing unfortunate hikers. A ridiculous notion that surely serves to put them on the map more than anything. Unfortunately, the entire town believes this fable, including his uncle, who respects it even if he does not fear it. The only one who doesn't seem to buy the hype is a short blond man in a ridiculous green hat and a wide smile. A farmer by the name of Phil who travels in and out of the woods frequently. How unfortunate it is that Phil is the exact thing the town fears. Not a harvest god, for Techno, was correct about that, but a spirit grown vengeful after a rather morbid death some years ago. A spirit whose body was left undiscovered after an accident and who longed for someone to see him as he was. Warped into the desire to have someone always by his side. Only once Techno finds his remains and recognizes them does Phil move on.

EXTRA- A Sign of Things to Come

AU Fest was challenging in that you couldn't edit your artwork after the artist sign-up. Something that I understand the reasons for, but also something that made me very sad when it came to this piece. I really really wanted to improve it since it was my least favorite of the four. I did wind up doing that, but in the spirit of the event, I made sure to keep the original as the first one you see. The following image is the improved version:

The changes were mostly to bring it closer to the other images and to fix up Techno's hair a bit. As much as the hairclip is part of the character design, I couldn't quite get it to work here. The hands also got the slightest touch-up in the process.

The problem with making an art series for @mcytblraufest is that I have to decide what order to post them all in. Do I start with the first I created or something that came a little later? Without directly sharing the character concepts as the first piece (see below), starting with one of the two design renders seemed appropriate. Logically, the other design will be posted tomorrow.

Character Designs

Technoblade gave me the largest challenge composition-wise. While I loved the direction the rendering was heading, the overall pose and background weren't hitting right. I wanted more movement than I originally had. On top of that, the outfit wasn't flowing well. I went through a few variations before landing on the final product. Of course, the following image is the only WIP I managed to capture. Unsurprisingly, two months have given me a few ways to improve this. Maybe next year, I'll endeavor to do so.
