man episode 97 is iconic for so many reasons but one of my favourites has to be when jester comes up to essek at the party and essek, traitor to the kryn dynasty and general stone-cold bitch, job title literally shadowhand, the guy who stole a beacon from his own country for knowledge and profit, just told a man who wants to kill all the gods to find some friends YESTERDAY,

cannot lie to jester to save his fucking life.

his answer to "where do you live" is "...around??"

he's visibly panicking through the entire conversation

his excuse for not seeing jester's mom perform is "i am what you would refer to as an introvert"

his answer to "do you like to stay at home" is "uh. yeeeees" followed by heavy drinking.

he gets drugged into paralysis 5 minutes later but he's floating so jester and veth can just fucking tug him around like a helium balloon

rewatching the mighty nein and rewitnessing their amount of paranoia is so good. they walk into a 5 star hotel after a battle with the followers of the god of death and a total of 10 hit points and 3 spell slots between all of them and they're still casing their rooms. uv lights out, flipping beds and checking smoke detectors for cameras. they insight check every person they meet. they want to cast a truth spell on the oldest, most powerful and crustiest wizard in all of exandria. theyd rather impale themselves instead of giving up their weapons. theyd rather send a cat with 2 hit points that's determined to roll nat 1s on its perception rolls to check out evil lairs rather than going in themselves. they hate people scrying on them but they get annoyed when they fail doing it to others. they lie to most people they meet yet they're still 'trusted' by the two out of the three great powers on wildemount. no one's doing it like them.

Im thinking about the fact that Gillion used to talk to Caspian (and probably marshall john as well) every night. He would train while talking to him, he would tell him about the goings on of the albatross, he would tell him the things that troubled him.

And now he can’t.

Caspian, someone who Gillion is infinitely comfortable with, someone who was essentially his safe space, has seemingly disappeared from Gillions everyday life. And it was by his own actions.

I think about the fact that Gillion, under normal circumstances, most likely would have told Caspian about his nightmares, about his encounter with Vice Admiral Kuba Kenta.

Caspian would be able to sooth Gillion, in ways that Chip or Jay could not (whether or not it’s because they are so different from Gillion where Caspian feels like his home is something he still grapples with), so what is he to do when the ability to talk to him is gone?

He makes do.

He shoulders the burden, just as he once did, because at least Chip can sleep easier at night.

At least it’s Gillion who is burdened by torturous nightmares, and not Chip or Jay.

He can deal with the burdens of others.

He can make do with out his comforts.

He can survive while looking forward to nothing.

Because what else should a champion do?
