EDM Showcase: Moonlight Masquerade Edition

This week I did a showcase of Moonlight Masquerade. I was supposed to play a 2 hour set but due to a scheduling conflict with a new show I had to cut it short abruptly. I'm going to play the second half of the playlist next week 12pm Tuesday. This is the first half of my playlist, I'll post the second half next week. EDM Showcase : Moombahton Edition

This week I did a showcase of Moombahton. Highly popular right now, with genre leading artists like Dillon Francis, and Diplo exploding with danceroom hits. But other names to pay attention to are Torro Torro, amazing new producers, and based on personal experience not bad DJ's either, and Lazerdisk Party Sex. Both are emerging out of the underground with Moombahton being their route to success.

For those that don't know Moombahton is hybrid of Electro House, Dubstep, and Reggeaton and sits around 108-110 BPM. Reggeaton being a Jamacian, South American, dance hall genre. Most Moombahton songs sound very tribal, with "jungle" beats. I can't help but picture Diplo's "Pon De Floor" Video while listening to it.

EDM Showcase: Trap Edition

This week I did a showcase of some popular Trap songs. For those of you that missed my introduction Trap music is a highly hip hop influenced EDM sub-genre with a focus on 808 drums, crisp high hats, a lot of pitch bending and repetitive hip hop hooks. It’s BPM varies but it tends to be fast, hovering around 140 and full of anthems. It takes a lot of influence from bass music and dubstep as far as drum beats, but also has some moombahton type sirens, and even some reverbed trancey elements. Along with Moombahton it’s the new genre of the so called “bedroom producer” looking for an in into the ranks of the EDM heavy hitters, so you’re going to find a lot of remix’s by people you’ve never heard of before, but there are some Electronic super stars who have made a foray into the genre as well including Diplo and even the bass god himself Bassnectar.
