first encounter | racer! keisuke x f! reader
where racer keisuke takahashi encounters someone who makes his heart flutter.
⊹ genre/au: racer keisuke from initial D, snowy day encounter
⊹ 15k words (it's my first fic, any feedback would be greatly appreciated)
[ song inspo: toxic till the end - ROSÉ, die with a smile - Bruno Mars & Lady Gaga, Soft Spot - keshi, talking to the moon - Bruno Mars]

“hey, bring me out”
“who even are you?”
“y/n”
“well i dont know who you are, stop bothering me” keisuke said with a wave of dismissal.
“have you had dinner yet?”
“why do you ask? it’s none of your business”
“hey, i asked nicely”
“stop bothering me will you?”
“please?”
“….”
a moment of silence fell between the two of them. it was late into the night when keisuke had just finished one of his street races for the RedSuns team. as usual, there were plenty of people crowding over the street. many in the audience were his die-hard fans, holding massive signs to cheer him on. usually it didnt bother keisuke much, as it was a norm for him.
he appreciated the genuine support received. but there was a deep grown hatred for those “self-proclaimed super fans” of his who had faked interests in racing and cars. some girls have even went as far as lying in his face about being interested in cars just to pique his attention. yet when questioned, not utter a single word of relevance came out. he had grown tired of so many people chasing after him, not for him as a person; but for his wealth and title as best street racer.
this time was no different. keisuke was annoyed, thinking that this was just another pesky fan he couldn’t get rid of. but this girl… she seemed different from the rest. she was more persistent than anyone he has ever met.
keisuke sighed. he did feel hungry. after all, he had just finished an intense race with a tough opponent. sighing again, he thought to himself, i’ll get rid of her after a meal.
after a long moment of silence, y/n piqued “hello? you’re not answering me”
keisuke grudgingly replied “you better lose yourself after this”
“fine” she replied.
“hop in” he said as he got into his lightning yellow mazda rx7.
she happily made her way to the passenger seat.
“… don’t touch anything” keisuke muttered in an annoyed tone, yet again reminded of how many times his passengers had touched his things without permission.
“i haven’t even moved a muscle” she said plainly.
“just… don’t…” he muttered
“i won’t, i promise” she said.
“buckle up”
“but you told me not to touch anything in here”
keisuke sighed, for the hundredth time today. he reached over and buckled the seatbelt on for her. noticing her features that were lit up by the dim street lights for the first time tonight. he brushed the thought away and drove off. a comfortable silence fell over them.
“where are we going kei?” y/n asked politely.
“….”
“… don’t call me that” keisuke replied rudely. he sighed, thinking to himself yet again, that he made a bad call of eating out with a stranger.
“only my close friends get to call me that” he grumbled.
“right, keisuke then?”
“… fine”
“fine? you’re okay with me calling you keisuke?” y/n asked.
“well, its better than kei…. or some shit like that” he muttered.
“okay”
silence fell over them again for the entire ride.
“i’m gonna have my meal here. its the only place thats open at this hour anyways….” keisuke said quietly.
“fine by me” she replied.
“well, i didnt ask you”
y/n gazed at him and replied nonchalantly, “would you prefer radio silence then?”
“… not exactly, no…” he sighed and said quietly.
“then don’t complain about it”
“i- okay…” keisuke replied, shocked. he was used to girls flirting with him and sucking up to him and whatever he had to say. but this time around, someone actually replied him with an attitude.
keisuke parked his car and turned off the ignition of his rotary. stepping out of the car, he felt the cool winter breeze on his skin. chattering slightly from the cold, keisuke silently cursed. he hated winter. it was too cold and snowy, and it had always disrupted him of his plans.
he glanced at her getting out of the car briefly, before turning on his heel to enter the diner, with no intention of waiting for her. he ordered his usual at the counter, a hamburger with a side of fries and coke, and sat down at a booth beside the glass windows. she followed suit, ordering a milkshake and a side of fries for herself.
she followed behind him and sat down at the opposite of the booth. seeing that keisuke had no intention of having a conversation, she propped her hands to support her face, and quietly admired the snow falling outside.
after a while, keisuke looked up from his device, and properly looked at her for the first time that night. the diner’s bright white lights illuminated her soft features. he let his eyes trail across her face, slowly trailing down her figure briefly. a thought passed through his head, huh…she’s pretty attractive.
y/n loved the winter season. it was her favourite. she adored the feeling of the cold wind blowing through her hair, loved wearing oversized and large fuzzy jackets. she loved making snowmans and lying in the snow too. being intrigued by the view outside, she didnt notice keisuke’s lingering eyes on her.
“here’s your food, enjoy your meal!” the waiter said as he brought over their food to the table. “thanks” “thank you” they both uttered in unison, before looking at each other. they both looked away immediately afterwards, feeling the awkwardness of the stare.
keisuke was starving at this point. he wolfed the entire burger down his throat and finished his entire meal within a few bites. looking around, he found his gaze trained on her again… y/n was quietly sipping on her milkshake and occasionally snacking on her fries whilst staring blankly outside. after letting his eyes linger for a while longer, keisuke broke the silence between them. “you’re not hungry?”
y/n turned at his voice, eyebrows furrowed with confusion“huh? oh… i just wanted to have a milkshake”
“you know i can pay right?” keisuke said annoyance thickly laced in his tone. what’s wrong with this girl? every girl i’ve been out with loves to order the most expensive and extravagant item on the menu… yet you’re sipping a goddamn milk shake and having fries…. his thoughts screamed.
“yeah i know, i was just craving for this” she replied, paying no mind to his annoyed expression.
“every other girl orders the most extravagant thing on the menu and you’re fine with just….. this?” he asked, annoyance and disbelief dripping from his tone.
she furrowed her brows, “i told you, i just wanted these”
“right…. i was just checking” he sighed and muttered quietly under his breath. he refused to believe that someone would just…. be like that… in front of him. no flirting, no small talks, just… comfortable silence.
keisuke looked around the place yet again, noticing that they were the only two people left in the diner. unconsciously, his gaze fell back onto her figure. he quietly admired her features. auburn brown hair, with curtain bangs fell perfectly over her face. his eyes trailed lower, seeing her figure hugged in a large grunge hoodie, making her look all the smaller.
as if noticing his gaze, her eyes widened slightly. “i- i’m sorry, i was making you wait right?” she quickly finished her milkshake and gestured to him that she was ready to go. “oh…um… yeah…”was all he uttered out, thinking to himself that.. he didn’t mind waiting for her, staring at her made a good pastime…
he opened the door of the diner exit for her, as she silently passed a thanks. “so…how are you gonna get back?” keisuke asked. y/n replied“um… i can walk back, it’s fine” “you’re gonna walk back? in this weather?” he scoffed. “don’t be kidding with me” “yeah.. i can walk back, no worries” she said as she started walking in the opposite direction “are you serious?” his face shock of disbelief, as he watched her figure slowly walk further and further away from him
huff. he looked up to the sky, watching the snowflakes start to fall in his palm. sigh… this girl… he didn’t understood her at all. at that moment, he let his heart make the decision, and he ran after her… in the snow that he hated oh so much.
“wait up, will you?” keisuke shouted into the empty roads. y/n turned around at the voice, and saw his tall figure jogging towards her. she halted in her footsteps and waited for him to catch up. her gaze fell onto him, his tall lean figure. though slender, it was obvious keisuke worked out. sporting a black hoodie and some green cargos, she let her eyes trail him for a few more moments as she saw him quickly approaching her.
“you didn’t have to chase me all the way here, kei” she said quietly, her breath just above a whisper. upon hearing that, keisuke was left speechless. usually he hated when people called him… well, kei. but this time, he didn’t mind the way his nickname rolled off her tongue. it was almost…attractive.
he quickly redeemed himself before he got carried away by his thoughts “you’re crazy aren’t you? walking in the snow like it’s nothing” he exclaimed. “i like the snow” she replied, continuing her footsteps in direction. “you’re kidding me” he answered, following right beside her. “no, i’m not kidding you” “how would ANYONE like the snow?” he exclaimed, “it’s so… burdensome” he added in a softer tone. “how so? i find it so enjoyable watching the snowflakes fall from the sky” she replied.
just the thought of the snow reminded keisuke of his yard shoveling duties. he despised it. shoveling snow away from the porch was a pain… it was a waste of time.. after he’d be done shoveling a portion of snow away, more snow just piled up again and again. he shook his head to free himself of his thoughts, “i hate clearing the snow from the porch… it’s a pain”
“i see” “what? you don’t mind shoveling heavy snow for hours?” “well, i don’t mind. i like the snow alot” “you’ve got to be kidding me!” he said, exasperated. “i’m not kidding you kei” she replied just as intensely.
“what, you like the cold wind blowing onto your face?” “yeah i do” “dosen’t it make your skin all… red and painful?” “it dosen’t kei, you’re exaggerating” “no i’m not”
silence fell over them once again, but it was a comfortable one. the wind was blowing softly, making her hair fly beautifully.
“give me your hand” keisuke said abruptly. she gave him a confused look, and contemplated slightly before holding her hand out for him. he snatched her hand away, and… it was… so soft… soft like her palms were made of clouds…he didn’t know what he was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t this…
y/n gave him a questioning look, not pulling her hand away “you gonna keep holding my hand or what?” keisuke snapped back to reality, letting her hand go. “oh.. i’m sorry….” mentally cursing himself for doing things without thinking again.
“for what?” “i didn’t expect your hands to be….” “be?” “so soft…” he whispered under his breath. y/n caught that, and smiled to herself.
-
“what, you carry around lotion or something? how is your skin not red and itchy?” he exclaimed, confusion evident in his tone. “…” “i’m offended, kei…. what do you take me for? but yes, i do carry lotion on me” she said. “you’re joking” he said, refusing to believe that someone would actually carry a goddamn lotion around with them. he was a guy after all… which guy even carries around anything more than necessities? he thought to himself… ah, ryosuke did carry around a bunch of useless stuff… “no, i’m not” she replied seriously.
y/n rummaged through her handbag and produced a small tube of hand cream. “here, give me your hand” she gestured towards him. keisuke put his hand out, curiousity getting the best of him. y/n squeezed a good amount of hand cream onto his hand and put some on the back of her hand, before stuffing it back in her bag.
“what do i do with this?” he asked, a puzzled look on his face. y/n sighed. she was rendered speechless yet again…. deciding not to ask anything, she put her palm up, and gestured for him to put his hand onto hers. keisuke thought it through quietly before placing his palm over hers. y/n took his hand and spread the hand cream evenly all over his hands, massaging it delicately into the crevices between each and every finger and joint. noticing how dry his palms were, she took more from the back of her hand and quietly slathered on more onto his hands, making sure his wrists were moisturised too. keisuke quietly watched as she skilfully spread this… sticky mess onto his palms. he would usually snap at anyone who dared touch him, but this time… he didn’t hate it nor was he bothered with it. instead, all that went through his mind was how nice the warmth of her palm felt against his.
she finished slathering the hand cream onto his hands, when she noticed how awfully quiet he had gone. having finished the task, she thought it would be rude to let go of his hand abruptly, so she held his hand quietly and continued her pace.
keisuke seemed to be in a trance, just shuffling his footsteps right behind her. it wasn’t for a while until keisuke noticed the fatigue in her figure. her pace slowed drastically, taking one footstep at a time. keisuke didn’t know what to say. after wracking his brain for a few minutes, he decided to just put his hand over her shoulder and supported her weight. they walked together slowly as a house finally was in sight. y/n’s pace was even slower than before, her figure hunched over and just dragging herself to move. concerned, keisuke asked quietly, “are you okay?”
she hummed. her reply just above a whisper, “m’ tired…” “well, we’re almost there okay? just hold on for a while more” she hummed in response, focusing on walking to her destination. keisuke found himself slowly supporting more and more of her weight. after a few more steps, y/n found herself not being able to budge anymore.
“y/n?” keisuke called out quietly. no response. “did you actually fall asleep on me?” keisuke asked in disbelief no response. “you’re kidding me right? hello?” she hummed lightly. “you really goddamn fell asleep on me huh? …what am i gonna do with you?” keisuke pondered over his thoughts before deciding on his next course of action. “stand still for a bit okay?” keisuke said to her quietly, as he made his way in front of her figure. he bent down onto his knees, before lifting her off the ground, piggyback style. keisuke sighed, “don’t scold me for it, i don’t know what else to do”
keisuke walked for a few minutes as she pointed out her house to him. keisuke followed his gaze to where her finger pointed and made his way over to the front gate. not knowing how to open it, he tried kicking the gate lightly with a kick. to his surprise, the gate opened just like that. “this girl…” he muttered, silently cussing at how terrible her safety awareness was.
keisuke made his way towards the front door and stared at the lock. thinking to himself, how the heck is he going to guess the password to open the door. after thoroughly scanning, keisuke found the biometric lock and brought her hand from his shoulder to unlock the door. click. the door had opened after recognising her fingerprint. sighing a breath of relief, keisuke kicked his shoes off in the doorway and set her down on the couch. after catching his breath, he scanned through the house, noticing the white and wood colour theme she had going on. upon further inspection, the house was.. neat. more tidy than he’d like to admit. his eyes then settled back onto her sleeping figure, quietly admiring how peaceful she looked.
many thoughts were running through keisuke’s head. contemplating about what he should do next, keisuke sighed. deciding that it probably wasn’t the best idea to leave her alone… so vulnerably asleep with an unlocked door. in that moment, he decided to just close his eyes and take a rest on the floor.
silence fell onto the pair as they both drifted away to dream land.
