i’ve been seeing a lot of posts about prayer beads lately, and thought it would be a good idea to have some. i did run into a problem though, if i’m in a family that doesn’t know i’m pagan, do you think i’d be able to use a necklace or something in place?
Hey, Nonny!
If your family is religious in other ways, you can claim the beads are for that religion instead (even though they're not). While I encourage open communication, sometimes that's just not possible in certain situations. If you're in such a situation, lying isn't a bad idea. You can always explain to your deities that you're lying to protect yourself and your right to practice your religion. I have no doubt your deities will understand, as many other worshippers live in similar circumstances, unfortunately.
I absolutely encourage you to get prayer beads, though! I don't personally have any, but it's something I hope to get. If I remember correctly, @altargarden makes custom prayer beads! They're pretty cheap, too! His work is very beautiful; I highly recommend him.
I hope this helps. I know I wasn't able to give much advice, so if anyone else has any ideas for Nonny, please feel free to chip in. Take care, Nonny, and I wish you the best. 🧡
EDIT: There are some great suggestions in the comments!!!

Fleet-footed Iris, swift as the storm,
golden-winged goddess, I call out to you.
Daughter of Thaumus, ancient one of the sea,
and bright-lit Elektra of the thunderhead,
sister of the fearsome Harpies, I honor your might.
Iris of the rainbow, many-colored goddess,
handmaid and herald of deep-eyed Hera,
yours is a duty needful and grave;
messenger and courier, you speak with the voice
of all Olympus–the Trojans and the Argonauts
did tremble at your words. Harbinger of hope,
goddess of the new day, I pray to you

no because tell me why it’s always “mental health awareness” until someone has:
•schizophrenia
•npd (narcissistic personality disorder)
•aspd (antisocial personality disorder)
•dpd (dependant personality disorder)
•bpd (borderline personality disorder)
•psychosis
•odd (oppositional defiant disorder)
•did (dissociative identity disorder)
•paranoia
•hpd (histrionic personality disorder)
•ocpd (obsessive compulsive personality disorder)
•stpd (schizotypal personality disorder)
•anything that isn’t ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) and adhd (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
when people say “mental health matters”, it should apply to everyone, not just the ones people “glamourize” and pass off as a cute little thing. even the ones that are “glamorized” matter too.
