리틀 포레스트 (Little Forest)
— 2018, dir. Yim Soon-rye
#little forest#little forest (2018)#리틀 포레스트#loved it#everything was just soo nice to look at#it had such a calming and soothing atmosphere#and showed perfectly Haewon‘s deep appreciation and love for the land#I am now fighting the urge to quit everything and move to the Korean countryside#also the food looked just absolutely delicious#the storyline itself was also very cute#rekindling childhood friendships and beginning to understand and value the things your mom did for you#always hits#loved the mom and how she claimed to be the creator of things she clearly didn‘t invent…could be my mom actually#also Kim Taeri was amazing as always#she adds a certain groundedness to her characters that always make them so very likable and relatable

“I still wake up with things to tell you. One day, I won’t. I will learn placid acceptance. I will stop panicking when I can’t perfectly remember the pitch of your voice or the curve of your jawline. The smell of cinnamon won’t make me sad anymore. At this point it’s not about finding someone to replace you. I have spread my love all over the place. It’s about trying to sleep knowing I live in a world that has your hands in it.”

"What if this is a past life as well, and we are already something else to each other in our next life? Who do you think we are then?" PAST LIVES (2023) dir. Celine Song
#Past Lives (2023)#movies#I don't know#I am a bit disappointed actually#it wasn't as heart-wrenching as I expected#like I am usually such a sucker for all of these tropes and the screenplay is so good but the execution made me feel nothing#the main characters were unlikeable imo especially Nayoung because she is so distant and standoff-ish

PS: I dream about you too.
Moonlit Winter (2019) dir. Lim Dae-hyung
#moonlit winter (2019)#윤희에게#movies#this movie was great#so cute and romantic *sigh*#but also very heartbreaking at times#I think this falls in the ‚loss of my life‘ category which I love so very much because it always tears me apart#the snowy Otaru winter creates a calm and cozy atmosphere#loved all the main characters and their relationships so much#Yoonhee and Jun‘s story is full of restraint and fear but also so much longing and hope#I almost cried with them when they met again#even though they didn‘t say much to each other (it was shown more through parallels and symbols) I could still feel their love deeply#in my head Yoonhee is now living in Otaru working in Aunt Masako's café#speaking of - the bond between Jun and her aunt is so precious#as is the bond that develops between Yoonhee and Saebom#Saebom and her boyfriend were also very cute (Saebom being very feisty and determined while Gyungsoo is just happy to be there with her)#Saebom and Masako are the ultimate wing(wo)men#I feel like this is one of the movies one would enjoy even more on the second watch as it will be easier to spot all of the subtleties#and I will definitely watch it again

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) dir. Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert
#Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)#movies#I don‘t think I have a lot to say about this movie except I liked it#all of the characters were very relatable or at least understandable which made it great because there was no one to really ‚root‘ for#it was less confusing than I expected and very fun to watch#sometimes a bit over the top but I guess it added to the fun factor#also cute resolution

“He told me it was love at first sight, and I believed him.”
-Love letter (1995)
#love lettter (1995)#ラブレター#movies#loved everything: the story the characters the ending and especially the cinematography#I think I have a thing for Itsukis#both Fujii Itsukis are so very cool#i actually feel a bit stupid for not realizing sooner that Itsuki and Hiroko are played by the same actress#she portrays them so distinctly different#hated Akiba though#the movie would have been better without him and his weird actions

Among all the people you know, how many do you understand?
Women in Film Challenge 2022: [50/52] House of Hummingbird, dir. Kim Bo Ra (South Korea, 2018)
When will my life start to shine?
#House of Hummingbird (2018)#벌새#movies#very sad coming-of-age story with intriguing characters#surprisingly similar to The Dream Songs (2022) but not as devastating#probably due to the very slow pacing#a bit too slow for me#loved the scenes with Ms. Kim though

Hey, Mariko. Did you really die without leaving me a single letter? Where… am I supposed to go? Why did you leave me? At least we could have died together. Why didn’t you tell me? I wasn’t even beside you when you died. I found myself with your bones… and I’m still here. There’s so much… I want to say to you… even though I’m still here. Do you… feel nothing leaving me here like this?
My Broken Mariko (2022) dir. Tanada Yuki
#My Broken Mariko (2022)#マイ・ブロークン・マリコ#movies#soo sad but also strangely uplifting?#I wish they could have been happy together forever :(#my heart aches for them#Shiino‘s clumsiness and over-the-top expeessions make the movie a lot more bearable to watch

#Who'll Stop the Rain (2023)#青春並不溫柔#movies#it's no life-changing movie but I really enjoyed watching it#loved the color-grading and the soundtrack (and the outfits!!)#it was surprisingly romantic in ways I didn't expect#always a sucker for the “nobody understands me but you”-trope#Chi-Wei's determination was so nice to see#and Qing's actress captured her ambiguity really well#I even sympathized with the boyfriend which is rare for me haha#also happy ending (!!)
