Pitchfork reviews annoy me bc I love music journalism and I want it to live but they're so bad. It's not even the scores I'm mad at (although a 1-10 scale with decimals is diabolical in and of itself. Like what does an album being 6.3 even mean) but the written reviews themselves are actually so shallow and dumb and filled with buzzwords it's making me want to start an album reviews substack

Of course a few people pointed out how hypocritical it is for Marina to talk about aging positivity for gen z women and women being allowed to age with a face full of botox and a new album with a very teenage-y aesthetic and of course they were bombarded with "it's easier to criticize than to uplift other women!!!" "It's okay if she's honest about it!" She can do whatever she fucking wants for all I care but then shut up about aging positivity. I want aging positivity from women that look their age not botoxed celebrity whose most common compliment they get is "you haven't aged a day in 20 years"

like people forget that weird girls grow into weird adult women. it doesn't just go away. and no you don't perish when you turn 25 or automatically turn into a nonweird wife and mother like some kind of Pokémon end evolution, you end up like me.

it is so important that you are a little bit ugly. please get comfortable with having unplucked eyebrows and nonexistent jawlines and wrinkles. let your blue hair grow out into an uneven pale green and your clothes be old and mend them and modify them until they’re unique to you. wear lipstick which doesnt compliment your skintone and mismatched outfits which went out of fashion 5 years ago. be a little bit too loud and a little bit too passionate and as weird as you can be because oh my god there is nothing more disturbing to me than perfection. beauty is manufactured and sold to us and you need to realise that you are a fucking animal to live a joyful life I am so serious. you cant obsess over aesthetics forever please just live messily and make your body your home however you please.

if you dont do it for you, do it for all the teenagers who will see u in the street and know that they are not obligated to be attractive

advice i think we should tell children is that when adults say stuff like ‘now that i’m an adult i get really excited about stuff like coffee tables and bathrooms and rugs etc’ they don’t mean ‘and now i don’t care about blorbo and squimbus from my childhood tv shows anymore’ bc your average adult still loves all the same pop culture stuff they always did; they just have a greater appreciation for the mundane as well. growing up just means you can enjoy life twice as much now. you can get really excited about a new stuffed animal AND about a new kitchen sponge. peace and love
