Some pics from the venture I had added beaded fringe to my golden bedlah top. It turned out great, and I learned a few things.

The most important lessons:

1) Coins cut through conventional thread (like the white stuff above) like tinfoil. Adding layers does not help the tensile strength so much as it makes it impossible to bead the skinny beads through.

2) Khaki is an EXCELLENT interfacing for beading.

3) the beading needles shown above SUCKED for my purposes. I only use the big eye bendy ones from beadalon now.

4) It is ludicrously EASY to lose your beading needles.

5) patience patience patience!!!

Getting older

Getting older is bad, and also pretty cool. You learn to accept wrinkles and grey hairs. At 29, my medical education has afforded my multiples of both. You also realise that you're never gonna be all the stuff you wanted to be, and that's sad, but you also realise you'll never become the stuff you've hated, and that's a relief. If you're doing it right, you'll find it's less about resignation and acceptance rather than pressing forward and finding ways around your limitations.

Getting older is bad, because it means there's less time left to spend alive, and I like living, but it's cool, too. Because you learn to place a better value on the time left.
