I'm so normal about the way the master's first instinct is to reach out for the doctor, but they choose to stop themselves. while the doctor's first instinct is to back away from the master, but they choose to reach out instead.

there are so many ways to show that the Doctor being kind is a choice but their love of the Master is one of my favorites. there has to be a deep-seated inner darkness in them to love someone so cruel, even if it's a darkness they don't give in to. they might want the Master to be kinder but it doesn't stop them from loving the Master when they're cruel. idk.
#thoschei lives rent free on the brain#currently reading one of the doctor who books#anything that portrays the doctor's darker edge where the master is concerned makes me pleased#the two of them know who killed first#but that's for them to know

stopping the master from committing atrocities, a manual:
step 1. pick them up.
step 2. hold gently.
step 3. avoid getting bitten.
success!

My favourite twissy quote has never been uttered on screen. It's probably better that it wasn't. But I think everything you need to know about Missy and 12 is in these 7 words from the script of the Magician's Apprentice.

To everyone who told me to read Divided Loyalties, you were 100% correct, but boy if you thought I shipped the Doctor and the Master before, I’m going to be insufferable now
This is right out of a romance fanfic?!
‘Our loyalty to each other is what has kept us together all these years.’
‘Nothing can divide that,’ murmured Koschei.
‘No,’ the Doctor agreed. ‘Nothing…’
The Master is so fucking soft with the Doctor:
The Doctor was on his feet in an instant, and crossed over to Vansell, his fists balling. Magnus was quickly between them, while Koschei eased the Doctor back, gently but thinly.
I mean just look at these two:
The others shrugged and moved slightly away from him. Only Koschei stayed, walking in time with the Doctor.
Just look at this!
The Doctor frowned. It couldn’t be dear Koschei?
Also deeply obsessed with their characterization in this book... The Doctor, impulsive and violent, only kept in check by a strong moral sense, versus the Master, who lacks morals, but has the restraint to hide it and play it off as a joke when it upsets his friends. The Doctor, thinking himself superior to the point of hubris where he gets his friends killed, versus the Master, who wants to be superior but instead is quietly jealous of his more commanding friends. The Doctor, who wants to be liked, versus the Master, who is content to be envied. The Master, obsessed with domination including over the Doctor, versus the Doctor, willing to let others continue to suffer at the Master’s hand rather than destroy him because having a nemesis makes himself look better by comparison.
This is absolutely the same Doctor who killed a kid with a rock for bullying Koschei, and the same Koschei who held the Doctor’s hand while they burned his body to hide the evidence. 10/10 spot on characterization.
God these two are perfect for one another. They’re the ultimate yin and yang. I can’t even.
