I would like to say: even though I've been in this fandom for 2 weeks, I love the show so much. The animation, the characters, the character dynamics, the plot, the voice acting, everything. This is one of the best things I've ever watched, and it makes me genuinely sad that it got cut short.

So, @nickelodeon, @paramountpictures, I say this with my whole heart, please, please give us another season. Or give us the cut episodes. Or both, even. Preferably with as similar of a team as what we had originally, to make sure it keeps the same feeling and impact. I will watch it. I will enjoy it. I will love it.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who live in the underground sewers and eat 1 000 pizza-related foods a year, are an outlier and should not have been counted.

This is unfortunately my last contribution to Open the Floodgates! I got into the fandom like, a week and a half ago because I heard Ben Schwartz (aka movie sonic) was in it lmfao, so I haven't had much time to make stuff. More to come, though!

The Disaster Twins

(this picture is not wholesome bc I didn't think abt putting a wholesome picture up here until after I collected like 27 screenshots, so I just slapped this one up here lmfao. There's 29 nice ones down below, though. I'm pretty sure.)

This is a post purely about the disaster twins, how I think they're canon, and some things about them I (and others) noticed that you might not have. (keyword might!!)

I'd like to point out how often they compliment/contrast each other, alongside their colours. Donnie is intelligent technologically and academically, while Leo is intelligent strategically. Leo enjoys magic, while Donnie strongly prefers science. If you also HC that Leo is the medic, it contrasts Donnie's sensory issues and probable queasiness at injuries and wounds. Leo is terrifyingly good at lying and bullshitting his way through sticky situations, and Donnie could not lie to save his life.

Another thing, a lot of things match between them, too. As mentioned before, they're both highly intelligent, just in different ways. Because of this video by RiseStarKiss Studios, and some parts from the show, I HC that these two are the most fashion-inclined out of their circle. It has also convinced me to HC that Donnie chooses their matching outfits, with some input from Leo. (Please check out the video if you haven't! Very well made, and good support.) I HC that Leo has insomnia, and that Donnie often works on his projects instead of sleeping, so in my brain they're both incredibly sleep deprived. They're both impulsive, though that might be just being a teenager, too. They're both sort of bitchy, like Leo at Draxum for dropping him off a roof and Donnie at...literally everyone he doesn't like? I think. That's what my brain is telling me. They both aren't good with feelings, Leo because of his constant masking with jokes and Donnie with his general difficulty in articulating how he feels emotionally (Breaking Purple) and his autism. (is that an okay argument to make?? Is that statement offensive??) They're also physically (and most likely genetically) similar, which I will explain in the next paragraph.

Honestly, there's probably a lot more that I just can't think of right now :').

This post further emphasizes their twin-ness. Basically, the post theorizes that Draxum snatched some DNA from Leo and slapped it into Donnie's DNA. It made a hard plastron that would protect his front, but took calcium from his shell, getting rid of the bone beneath the softshell, making his shell much weaker and less protective than his brothers' or even humans' ribcages. Then because isolating DNA is hard, Draxum let the "colourful markings" DNA stay and just guided it to make "purple rectangles instead of yellow crescents". In short, when Draxum snatched DNA from Leo and slapped it into Donnie's DNA, it made the two of them genetically similar. (If this argument sounds weak, please read the actual post! They cooked so hard!)

I also remember seeing a Ron Corcillo post that says Leo + Donnie and Raph + Mikey are closest. But also my memory is faulty a lot of the time so don't take my word for it because I can't find it lmao.

Who's the older twin? A lot of people point out points where one or the other acts more mature, but I feel like maturity, while sometimes a good measure of age, isn't always accurate. After all, there are a pretty good amount of times where you have younger siblings who are more responsible/mature than older ones. So I HC that they picked a birthday together, and they jokingly fight over who's the older one. I mean, they have no surefire way of knowing, anyways. In conclusion, whoever's the older twin depends on how they feel that day.
