Basts, a common species on Pylapia native to Kev'fian savannahs and Heronic tundras.
They are a part of the sentient group known as Kami, which includes other animal-hybrid creatures like lyca, satyrs and kitsune.
Bast are scientifically thought to have been evolved from the same common ancestor as lyca, but the myth is that a terrible warlock cursed a beautiful woman to become part beast and it only made her stronger and more stunning. Bast are known for thriving in extreme climates, and often are aligned with fire and ice/water elements as a result. Their agility and deftness are unmatched by other species, and they don't often have mounts the way other species might.
Bast are found throughout most parts of Pylapia, although are much rarer in temperate zones such as Drasil and southern Heraldlit, and despise moist climates like Firefall and coastlines. The typically moral codes of bast usually summarize to "Protect your own and accept the needy," which often makes them seem uncaring to outsiders and aloof. Known races of bast include lions and leopards of the Kev'fian savannah, lynx, bobcats and snow leopards of Herony and northern Heraldlit, and maus of the forests.
Most basts worship the goddess Bast, supposedly the first of her kind, but also the sun god Herus and Juskin, god of safe passage. Other common patrons are goddess of family, Rosetta, and Zephilzeus, god of survival. Basts are known to raise their young as a community, sometimes known as colonies, and "mutt" kami are uncommon - often leaving the colony once old enough to find others like themselves.
Basts stand out from other species for their precision, agility, and tolerance to extremes. Their fur typically has stripes, specks or swirls and a long, thin tail, and are most identifiable by whiskers on their cheeks and slit pupils. They excel in dry climates and rocky environments as well.

Lux Lumen Masterpost
Hi! This blog is run by @kitzuukts , mostly serving for now a lore dump of an eventual project, hopefully animated series or comic.
What is Lux Lumen? A fantasy world where several species live in harmony, under the careful watch of a selection of deities either sprung into existence along with the world of Grovenii or becoming such famous heros after death they rose to immortality.
Okay, but what does Lux Lumen mean? A phrase essentially meaning "light be with you," or "brightest light," it's often used as a greeting, farewell, or wish of good luck between folks.
What inspired this world? Aphmau's Minecraft Diaries was the initial inspiration, but over time it has been influenced by She-ra and the Princesses of Power, my wonderful boyfriend, and a few other shows.
What time period is it? Equivalent of about 1640's Earth.
Map of Pylapia circa 948 Calypsian Era plus links included to the individual countries
Overview of species on Grovenii, but specifically Pylapia
Eventual reference posts I'll link include the species overview, types and methods of magic, a character list, a list of moons, list of deities and pantheons, some flora and fauna, magical relics and artifacts, political factions, holidays and festivals, the three realms, and more!

Heraldlit Holy State, circa 948
Tumblr media
Capital: Shepherd's Keep
Heraldlit consists of the main kingdom, comprised of the provinces on the west coast and surrounding Reykki Lake, the siren tribes on the penninsula, the southern territories, and the eastern coast colonies. Areas on the northwest coast were captured by Herony Empire.
Population: 10.4 million, mostly voidlings and humans. Northern areas have sirens, easterns contain hallow voidlings, and southern areas have brr'dohv.
Most in Heraldlit follow the House of Herus, a religion praising the sun god and the light and warmth he gives to the world, despite the country being mostly nocturnal. He was the one who created the Dialstone, an augury relic allowing those holding it a direct connection to him as well as divination magicks, giving raise to the secondary religious pope role of Dialkeep.
Major exports include wooden crafts, buttons, tools, and furniture, and surprisingly freshwater fish and oysters. As voidlings are pathivores, they often keep pets and there import a lot of exotic creatures and xolies. Other exports include bamboo products, gossamer, and woven clothes.
The social norms of Heraldlit form into "circles" of ranking among others you know. Your first circle is your partner, immediate family, and closest friends. Your second circle is coworkers, friends, your employees, etc. Your third circle are those that are aquaintances or you'd only address formally. There is also the "royal circle," which is the Dialkeep, Divine Liege, their heirs and aristocrats and barons.

Humans, the most populous species on Pylapia (and the most arrogant, some claim!)
They are part of the sentient group of Homonus, which includes humans, human hybrids, and some species that live on other continents of Grovenii, such as dwarves and giants.
It's suspected that Groven humans are descendants of Earthen humans, due to the very small amount of physical differences, but they are considered a different species. Humans are famous for their resilience and tolerance to extreme conditions and ability to learn and adapt. Out of all sentients on Grovenii, humans have the easiest time learning magic they are not aligned with and are great contributors to methods of casting magic using the planet's reservoirs instead of your own, like runes and artificing.
Humans are found all across the continent of Pylapia, with the one exception being the Isle of Firefall, where the species who live there take very unkindly to outsiders. Culturally, humans have a moral code of "Treat others as they treat you," contributing to stereotypes of humans being brash and rude, as well as loyal to the death, but they also often adopt the culture of where they grew up. The most defined races of humans are the Tastead and Haistead humans, who live with the voidlings and daemos and are nocturnal, known for their night vision and unique hunting methods, the Nythyr who live with elves and are remarkable archers, the Clifordic of Herony who are renowned for their crystalsmithing and jewelry, and the Lostshear people of Kev'fia, revolting against the king of their country for independence. (No, it's not super important information, just flavor)
The deities they worship depend highly on their community and culture, but a vast amount of humans hail Nykole the Stormbringer, who slayed a mighty beast to herald the end of a war and died in the process. Humans are also known to raise their young as a community rather than just the biological parents, and it's common for half-humans to be born and accepted regardless. The most common hybrids are humans and voidlings, called daemos, and half-elves, but there are cases of half-kami and even half-stellations called cherubs.
Humans are noted for being the most diverse and free of the sentients while also being the most loyal to one another. They stand apart due to the vibrance of their hair and eyes, their marked skin, their resilience to most physical and mental challenges thrown their way, and their ability to learn and grow and diversify and adapt. They also have higher temperature and weather tolerances, often better immune systems, and even a higher mental fortitude.

Herony
Tumblr media
Herony Empire, circa 948 CE
Capital: Falconedge
Population: 9.9 million, largely human population with some elven and lyca folk.
The country started out as a two-province land before Abyssol the Tyrant began the Great Expansion and turned the kingdom into an empire. Over the last thousand years, they've claimed all northwest territory and began conquering Heraldlit lands to expand. Due to the extreme colds of the land, they are well-equipped to survive and thrive on very little, and to take whatever they can't buy.
Herony aristocrats have had a long-held belief that if mortals can perceive them, the gods could not, and therefore the higher ranking you were politically the more modest you dressed. The emperor and heirs were the highest ranking, wearing niqabs, while most of those closest to the emperor, such as kings, queens, the highest generals, the emperor's advisors, ambassadors, and secretaries would wear hijabs or similar. Barons, envoys, and higher militia cover everything except the head and arms, and sometimes forearms, and lords are also similarly modest. Revealing clothes, especially in the most north of the empire, is considered squalor-ish, poor, and even blasphemous or sacrilegious. Veils in particular signify religious importance, worn mostly by the emperor, crown heir, and priests.
Most in Herony praise Abyssol, considered an ambitious and worthy leader, and Cebeus the Two-Faced, who created a sacred, lost relic said to reveal the absolute truth to whoever wields it.

Originally, mermaids evolved to mimic the beauty standards of humans in their regions. But now, mermaids look however they want without caring how humans think they "should."
Some mermaids happen to fit modern human preferences, to the chagrin of insecure people everywhere. Though many humans and mermaids have successfully courted each other... They are still formidable predators with endless defense systems, should you overstep.
While not human, mermaids are still people. Treat them as such.
Now, do stop laughing.
