OML Your character design is so yummy! What's your process if you don't mind sharing? (no pressure obvi) It's been a hot minute since I've found a creator where I love every single character they make and have to restrain myself lol 😭

Simply put I use Pinterest. My go to is to use 3 references per part of a character design: outfit, weapon, and if need be the separate pieces of an outfit. + aesthetic

First however you should figure out the PURPOSE of the character or at least the basic idea. Example: Gabriel. My idea for Gabriel was a crazy priest, so his outfit would be that of a priest and his facial features would be real crazy and obsessive looking. But for more complicated designs like Dove then you're welcome to read the notes there. My focuses when designing a character tend to be SYMBOLISM, ATTRACTIVENESS (specifically how if the design itself is pleasing to the eye, not how attractive a person is), and FACIAL FEATURES. My biggest tip is to use symbolism! Example: Dove

(i did this concept art traditionally, but you can do this digitally!) The idea for Dove was an obsessive immortal.

His facial features are meant to look dove-like, due to dove's being a symbol of love.

A heart/red accent to represent violence, love and obsession

Also! It's good to know not everything needs a purpose. Make sure to mix a good amount of aesthetic and purpose/reason.

(I'm still busy with Dove's design, but he's the most obvious example I can give.)
