hi folks! i’ve been extremely overwhelmed by life recently, and vira got dropped due to inactivity – i’ve decided though that, for now, that’s okay. with everything going on, my spark for her has fallen by the wayside, a bit. i’m still in isola on evelynn, so catch me over there if you’d like!
until then – i hope someone else who wants to can take up this character, if they so choose. happy hunting!

she sees something that catches her interest that day, while making her routine route down cotes from the bookstore, bags in hand -- barely filled, as always, because it’s rare to find something she actually likes on the shelves.
it takes a bit of running to catch up with him, though --
“ pardon me, sir, would you --? ”
-- but that blade is excellently crafted; she can tell, just at a glance, and that’s entirely more interesting than any romance novel (of only decent quality.)
vira’s smile is gentle, subdued, as she angels her chin upwards to look at him; but her eyes gleam with barely-contained fascination. it’s been so long since she’s laid eyes on a good blade beyond her own -- to be honest, she’d quite forgotten the hobby until now.
Tumblr media
“ perhaps this seems an odd request, but... may i take a look at your sword, there? i rarely see anything like it. ”
( excluding, of course, the ruby-red weapon hanging from her hip. )

“ prometheus, you say? ”
the name does spark some dim recognition in her; she’s not sure from where, or from who -- but it brings to mind an association some primal beast that she’s certain she’s seen, heard about -- a goddess held aloft by chained crows, torch in hand, raining flame down on the skydwelling host of soldiers --
-- she shakes her head. clears her thoughts.
those memories are irrelevant, right now.
“ ...my apologies, you... reminded me of someone i know. -- just like her, your attire presents a... vivid image. ”

something within her -- within luminiera -- stirs at the man’s presence.
she’s not sure why; otherworldy beauty aside (it draws all eyes to him, and he’s even being approached by some of his braver admirers) he seems to be rather normal -- figures that, after becoming the bonded of a primal beast, she’s begun to consider winged humanoids normal -- all things considered -- vira’s quite sure she’s never seen him in her life, or at least, if she has, she’s already forgotten.
luminiera, conversely, flits over to him immediately, twirling through the air and above the heads of passerby to hover around the stranger; there’s scarcely a question out of vira’s mouth before she’s already darted away, forcing her to follow.
“ excuse me -- pardon me -- yes, please, thank you for moving aside. ” her voice carries easily as ever; it’s no great effort to weave her way to the front of the small gathering to catch up with her companion.
Tumblr media
“ i’m sorry, sir, but -- have we met? my friend here seems to be positively fascinated by you. ”

idealflames‌:
♕ - ; in his eyes, the doppelganger of him was almost an insult on his entire being and character. while the two stood for rather similar ideals, the way he began to act after the separation was atrocious and embarrassing to say at the very least. while he still had to get over the headache of having lived two separate lives, when he saw what became of the other after mere moments of the separation he simply could not allow such a disgraceful sight to be.
♕ - ; that didn’t mean killing him, however. he was told rather quickly, courtesy of the phone given to him, that there was a chance of sending this ‘other him’ back into what was a version of his world he could live in peace and bliss. on the one hand, he could simply cut down the other being. after having been forced to bare the sight of his own mother’s visage come to life to torment him, it would be quite some time before he felt comfortable with circumstances like these happening again.
♕ - ; but then he remembered from their experiences and memories that the world he lived in was.. at the very least, a happy one. it was vastly different from what he had in mind for the future but, ultimately speaking the other percival was still trying to do good for the world as he was. even if he was acting out now and being rather uncharacteristic of the original, if he were to take away that world from him for simply being outraged at his actions, he would be no better than what he was fighting against. so, it truly came down to one decision. get him back and speak with him
♕ - ; once he had made up his mind, he was dedicated to end this farce once and for all. especially given how he had a much better idea and conviction of how to approach this situation unlike before, he was going to hopefully do it himself. the matter was now to find where the other him had gone to. that would be the difficult part. his thought process however was quickly interrupted by the sound of a voice calling out to him. a familiar face aboard the grandcypher.. the commander of albion citadel. a young girl who had found herself merged with a primal beast, a bit of an anomaly all things considered. he recalled her presence many times and he was not one to forget those whom he had met before.
Tumblr media
“  percival. there’s no necessity in addressing me by title as we’re both under command of the same captain, a certain line of comradery should be established. especially if we’re after the same thing. “ he wasn’t expecting to be offered help or accompaniment during this matter but he wasn’t quite one to turn it down. this was a large city and having a second set of eyes could prove to be beneficial. he simply motioned for her to walk at his side.
“ i see no issue in your request. i’ve already decided what i’m to do when i meet with mine, i suppose it would cause me no issue to be on the look out for your’s as well. would you have any idea where they might have gone, in the first place? “
Tumblr media
“ mm. of course -- percival, then. ”
she is, of course, dwarfed by his height. he addresses her as equal, though, so she doesn’t mind; vira has had her fill of men filled to bursting with self-importance and superiority from her time as the lord.
-- rather, he is filled to bursting with self-importance and superiority, but he’s more likely than others to put it towards something meaningful, rather than rest on his laurels. she can appreciate that, even if, judging by his reputation, he’d normally grate on her.
...well, she supposes she’s the last person to be considering rumors and reputation as an accurate measure of character.
“ yes. i believe that i -- that we -- know where they went, yes. ”
at the mention of another, pure-green eyes peek out from behind vira’s shoulder as the primal beast shimmers into view, ribbonlike tendrils curling around her arm in an approximation of a hug. luminiera nestles her face into the crook of her neck. a clear request for attention that she gladly obliges; gently, with only three fingers, she pets her companion’s head.
luminiera leans into her touch, and, for the briefest moment, vira is let into her mind once more; she is a whirlwind of worry, in a way that she never is --
-- because i’m in danger, vira realizes, right when the connection cuts short once more.
lowering her voice, turning so that percival cannot hear more than a murmur, she says, as gently as she possibly can,
“ i’ll be okay, luminiera. ”
sometimes, she wishes that her companion were more human; incapable of expression, she is left with silence as luminiera’s form ripples and vanishes once more,
and vira wonders if she is upset.
happily, that thought is dispelled as soon as she feels her cuddle up to her side. it might be misguided, and ultimately detrimental, but -- she wants to spare her from more hurt. vira remains calm, suppressing everything, for them both.
“ i’m at a loss as to how i might explain it, but... ”
they both feel it. an insistent draw to something both familiar and entirely alien. a restlessness that rises in both their chests and pulls them in a single direction; perhaps because of their entirely unique connection, they can --
“ my dear friend here -- maybe you could also refer to her as a guide? she knows, in her heart of hearts, where we must go -- so, in turn, i know as well. she’s told me, you see. ”
she’s certain percival is aware of their dual-nature, though she doubts he knows the full extent of it; vira does not intend to inform him, either. some things are deeply personal, to her, even now, and standing beside someone who is almost normal she is even more acutely aware of her status as an anomaly. his company is a double-edged sword; the presence of another, a familiar face, puts her mind at ease -- but that old self-consciousness comes back, more biting than ever.
she tries to ignore it.
“ we are headed to the north of these ruins. hopefully, you may find yourself along the way. ”
vira offers percival a smile that reads as more sardonic than gentle after her vague attempt at humor; the joke certainly doesn’t do much to raise her spirits, but she tries it, anyways.
for we are ever creatures of habit...

@staplerer
it’s rare that she runs headlong into someone -- the recent events in spirale must have taken their toll on her mental state. that’s the conclusion vira comes to after the fact, when all is said and done.
normally, she’s exceptionally vigilant of the space she occupies; too much so, really, with a trained combatant’s darting eyes and hair trigger responses.
“normally”, seemingly, does not describe today.
shopping, she idly supposes, is not proving the most effective relaxation technique. not when it forces her to pay attention to others. -- which, to be quite honest, has become a positively herculean task.
the impact jolts them both, scattering the contents of the small bag in vira’s hands to the floor; whatever daydream she was stuck on, it’s gone now, as she watches the packs of stationery and pens tumble from her grasp. not damaged, of course, but the event is embarrassing enough. inwardly, she scolds herself for her lack of attentiveness, though the self-criticism doesn’t show on her face.
Tumblr media
rather, with a slight frown, she pulls back, steadying what remains in her handbag, and offers a swift apology (one that she hopes sounds as genuine as she means it to be.)
“ oh, goodness, i’m sorry. i must have become distracted by something -- are you at all injured? ”

i haven’t had much motivation to write vira lately, but i’m feeling the itch to post on her coming back, and with it, the desire for some new threads.
the event’s ending soon, so this is just a normal starter call; uncapped, but i will be selective, and may approach people to ask questions about stuff if i have a spark of inspiration for their starter but end up being confused or curious about things regarding their character.
i’m going to be dropping most of my threads prior to this post, with the exception of those that began in subversion; however, if i wish to keep ours, i’ll swing by and make sure you’re okay with that, too. sorry, but i need to give myself a clean slate or i’ll just get stuck on the process of cataloging what i have to do to begin with.
drop a like and/or reply, if you’d be so kind!

her ‘other’ self is almost like witnessing a window back through time.
viewing the world from behind the eyes of another is not a wholly unfamiliar experience for vira, of course; skydwellers and primal beasts were never meant to bond, let alone become one. luminiera’s thoughts seep through the cracks sometimes, when she becomes unfocused, and vira gets to see the world as her companion does; in sharp focus, with eyes meant for battle and battle alone, quickly identifying (and wrestling with an urge to dispose of) threats.
she was built a weapon, and though she has outgrown her purpose -- the marks of the astrals remain on her, as they always will. now that vira is also her -- or rather, her host -- they are her scars, too; burdens from before she was born are hers to bear.
( but she was born nobility, so she supposes this was always the case. )
but there is an unfamiliar factor in it all; rather than be memories of someone else, they are of herself, but different. different in the sense that she can feel that unbridled viciousness and pragmatism that characterized her days as lord; it is like looking into a dark mirror of her current self, without luminiera’s calming influence and allies at her back. there is who she would be if she had stayed cut off from the world; cold, distant, and deluding herself into thinking she was content with it.
living a ghost of a life.
but even she deserves saving. if not for the moral duty of a knight that vira bears, then purely for her own safety; for luminiera’s safety, too, as she is reminded of the primal beast curled around her shoulders. she has another to say goodbye to as well, though her thoughts are now closed off to vira; she chooses to remain within herself, withdrawing to spare her partner the weight of another’s anxieties.
both of them, led on by the application in vira’s hands, are drawn to the city of yesteryear. hopefully there, in its ruins, they can give their mirror-images another chance, and spare themselves from an unfortunate fate.
the city is frantic, but they arrive outside the limits of spirale without incident. there are others here, most likely saddled with the same task; some travel in groups, taking refuge in companionship even as the dark cloud of their limited time hangs over their heads. despite luminiera’s warmth, vira finds herself feeling distinctly alone; vulnerable for it, as well, even though lyst sin is a comforting presence at her hip, as always, with a grip made for her hands and her hands alone.
-- but maybe, there’s someone she can find, too. scanning the scattered residents figuring out their own directions, she spots him; garbed in gallant red, looking decidedly ridiculous holding a smartphone, but familiar.
...even if he’s an absolute pain of a man, most of the time.
“ lord of flames, ” she calls, and her voice carries clearly, as it always does.
Tumblr media
“ do you, too, seek your doppelganger? would you be bothered if i were to accompany you? we seem to be heading in the same direction, after all, and i must confess that i would like the company of an... ally. ”

she notices the dogs before she notices their owner.
-- rather, the dogs notice her, first. she figures she must still smell like food, having just left her usual place for lunch, by the way they strain on their leashes to get closer to her; not aggressively, chevalier notes, but inquisitively.
she squats down to offer a hand to them both, palm-down, so they can become acquainted; her dress is trailing on the sidewalk, in the slush of just-melted snow, but she doesn’t care. her expression is apologetic, lips in a half-smile -- they seem to be searching her person for any remnants of her meal, but she doesn’t have any. not anymore. she already visited her own “stray”, so to speak.
Tumblr media
but they seem satisfied enough with gentle scratching under their chins. sitting like she is, they’re both taller than her, so its easy to maneuver her hand into a position to pet them both --
-- and --
-- and, oh, she’s been rude.
in a hurry, she stands, eyes wide, and gestures frantically to the man holding their leashes -- he seems bemused if nothing else, and that does nothing to make chevalier feel less conspicuous. she didn’t think to ask, because, well... she can’t ask, not that easily. reading the dogs seemed to be more important than reading the man -- the man now staring at her with blue eyes ringed with dark circles, obviously waiting for some sort of explanation.
she doesn’t... really have one. the dogs seemed like they wanted attention, so she gave it to them. it was a natural reaction.
chevalier struggles to unlock her smartphone with cold fingers, and then, as is routine, quickly navigates to the notepad app and scrawls with one hand:
‘ sorry i forgot to ask usually work with stray animals not pets ’
she turns the screen to the man, then, using her other hand to form an outward-facing fist that moves in to press to her lips, mute; she’s not sure if he’ll understand, but it’s an automatic gesture. -- in fact, he probably won’t. most people don’t, anyways, and he looks imposing, so she might be better off just leaving. tentatively, she raises her hand in a gesture of farewell -- just forget it happened, mind her own business, she didn’t embarrass herself by petting a stranger’s dogs without asking, move on, go home. she’s quite ready to start at a brisk pace away from him --
-- until one of the dogs lightly headbutts her leg as she turns around. it’s enough to make her pause and look back.

Pretty long overdue, as I absolutely had no idea how to do her expressions correctly.
Then I got to see Kakegurui and everything went OK

gloved hands fumble as she tries to bring her phone up without dropping the bag she’s holding; it’s later than she usually arrives, but she couldn’t say no to having lunch with her sister, especially after everything
-- rather, she couldn’t.
not with who she was meeting up with, anyways. it was easy to work out his identity from where she stood; he matched up with the reports of the elusive mini-criminal making headaches for the force from fibonacci to cotes. chevalier’s tactful enough, of course, that having worked that out did not prompt her to suddenly share her realization with the boy, or worse, her sister.
-- what’s that called? snitching, she thinks.
an ugly word. she doesn’t want to be a snitch.
and besides, it’s not like he’s getting up to anything too bad... mostly, he takes what he needs, and really, even vira could use a prank or two to lighten up, sometimes. the spraypaint is... relatively harmless?
even if its not, she’d be going against her personal code to ignore someone looking as ragged as he does. she wishes he’d accept some kind of real help, but she knows how it is; once an animal -- someone, no, someone, she’s thinking of him as a stray cat again -- loses their trust in the world, it takes a lot to restore it. patience, perfect calm, and generosity...
...he really is like a stray cat, come to think of it. maybe that’s why it’s second nature to interact with him without scaring him away.

[ TO: NICO ] [ FROM: CHEVALIER ]
> my apologies for being late! my sister wanted to see me on her break, and i think if she knew i was buying food for you, too, she’d talk my ear off about being too selfless, or something. 😅 > oh, you can come out now, though. she had to get back to work, so it’s just me. i can keep a secret from her anyways, so don’t worry! 😊
as is routine, chevalier waits outside his little hideout -- one of many -- leaning against the wall of a familiar alleyway, scarf pulled tight around her face, with the bag of fast food clutched firmly in one fist. they’ve been doing this for about a month now, and she thinks she’s got it down. ...at least, he seems less skittish than he used to, and he even gave her his phone number and name so they could make a schedule. so he’s at least warmed up to her a bit!
the thought brings a gentle smile to her lips, hidden behind her jacket. she’s happy to help. despite what vira might caution her against, she does make enough as an archivist to support an extra lunch every now and then. it’s cheap enough to not be worth worrying over.
chevalier wishes she would worry less. how can one get anything done, spending so much time worrying? there’s no point in worrying about her, anyways, even if it’s out of love. she can take care of herself.
