#event: subversion pt1

Please note that this does not begin until Friday, December 20th at 12:00:01am EST. No starters, info posts, or ads can be made before that point. This is just an information post for preparation's sake!

We previously teased that we'd be doing something different for the December event, and this is it! Because everyone is busy with the holidays and there are likely event reruns some members would like to do but can't since they never win the polls, we decided to try a period where you can choose whichever event you'd like to write during the three week event period. We're posting this in advance so you can think about what you'd like to pick!

There are, of course, some rules and caveats for this:

Most events are available to be chosen but not all of them. This is because some of the staff who wrote those events are no longer with us. You can find a list of eligible events at the bottom of this post!

You must choose a single event to receive event participation with on any single blog. You're more than welcome to thread with others doing other events so that they have people to write with, but you can only claim participation for a single event during this period!

There is a flat reward of a free unlock for everyone who participates regardless of whether or not the event you pick gives an unlock. This is so everyone receives an unlock regardless of the event chosen. Picking one that gives an unlock will not give you two, you will still only receive the single unlock. You must write at least 300 IC words for your chosen event to be eligible to claim the unlock.

The usual rules on the EVENT RERUN GUIDE still apply! Your character will see the city in the state that it was in during that event, and will believe everyone is going through the same thing.

A more complete post will be made on Friday with any questions that have been asked in the interim. So if you have any questions about how things work, please send them to the masterlist (not the Discord server) before Friday!

Scheduling an afternoon free of obligations for both of them might have taken some effort, but Karen showed up as carefree as ever. She looked a little less stressed under the surface than just before the holidays, now less likely to start nodding off if Yuri happened to leave her anywhere for a while.

“I had to toss out a few cosmetics for osoji, so that’s on my list for today!” she announced, stretching her arms out over her head. As she looked from side to side before lowering them, her eyes fell on a bookstore in the gaps between people walking by. “Ah, a new promotion over here.” 

She took a few steps closer, and even then she could see the huge letters on the signs hung up around it and in the display. A best-selling writer was supposed to come around in a few days to sign autographs. “Have you read anything of hers?” she asked Yuri cheerfully, the writer’s name a blank in her case.

Aysha doesn’t understand how she got to Level 2. Last she checked she was on the Surface, on her way to visit her parents to wish them a happy new year. And yet, as she walked further and further, rounded corner after corner, she found herself no closer to her childhood home. And far further from the Surface than she’d like.

The goings on of Levels 1 and 2 were something that Aysha knew about but had never experienced first hand. She knew of the crime rings and black markets, the assassins and mafia bosses, but had always heeded her father’s warnings to never stray too far down below the surface level.

It’s so dark, she checks her phone just to make sure she hasn’t completely lost track of time. 2:30pm. There ought to still be plenty of daylight, yet it barely peeks over the edges of the High Roller skyscrapers. She gulps, and holds the shoulder strap of her bag with a tight, nervous grip as she continues along the street. Surely she can find her way back up to the surface, surely….

- two estranged daughters of a rich ceo with a family company centered in fibonacci.

- their father is a Strict believer in absolutely rigid gender roles, and so despite the fact that vira was objectively more suited to succeed their father, her brothers -- all equally incompetent -- were considered in her stead. the sisters were taught separately, raised separately; they rarely saw their father at all unless it was to berate them.

- chevalier, born mute, was even less wanted than her headstrong sister. whereas their brothers were scared of vira, they regularly picked on her; their father lamented that she would not even make a good wife.

- vira studied outside her authorized subjects that she was tutored for, trying in vain to prove her worth over that of her brothers, to which she was met with only disapproval, even as she far outpaced them in a far shorter time period.

- long story short, vira blew up on him, after which he calmly, condescendingly informed her that he was raising two daughters and three sons, not five sons, and she would do well to remember her role.

- at this point, having blown through any and all goodwill left to them, they exited his office and resolved to put their lives as coddled, caged rich sisters, and stepped out into the world with only each other as support.

- it took a while to establish themselves and get jobs, but they both prefer life like this, now. there’s nowhere near as much luxury, but neither of them would trade all the money in the world for freedom and personal agency.

- they’re comfortable enough apart from each other now to spend prolonged periods of time separated, but they are each more stable in the other’s presence.

vira lillie, 22 ; spirale city police detective.

- the first half of the runaway duo. vira went through every effort to cover their tracks; their real surnames are something only chevalier and vira know, and neither of them are keen on sharing. 

- when she’s not being entirely aloof, she is harsh, volatile, and intense in every emotion she expresses, positive or negative.

- has a reputation for being harsh and uncompromising with her opinions.

- is either sickeningly, perfectly polite or ruthlessly blunt; she tends to make her choice depending on what might allow her to exert the most control over a situation.

- despite her demeanor, is actually a very caring person, but simply doesn’t know how to express it, for the most part. genuine concern often manifests as stern lecturing.

- rarely makes connections with others, and is stubbornly resistant to chevalier’s encouragement to open up more easily to her peers. still, she counts a few close friends among her social circle.

- has a soft spot for children struggling in life because of her own lack of a properly nurturing parent + childhood.

- takes her job very seriously. she’s rumored to have the sharpest intuition in her department, with an ability to read people to match.

- has a consistent streak of success on criminal cases involving upper-class corruption, partially due to her own upbringing in a family built on decidedly dirty money.

- is inseparable from her sister, and will take anyone who talks down to chevalier or mocks her and make their lives a living hell. that is, if her sister doesn’t do the same first.

- is plainly unavailable to men. don’t try it. the precinct still talks about how those first few rejections went down. she does longingly wish for something like a storybook love, but never allows herself to move past flirting with women for fear of emotional vulnerability.

- a hobbyist violinist. standing in stark contrast to that hobby, she is also knowledgeable about fencing, though she’s not had even a practice match in years.

- is fluent in sign language for the sake of her sister ( and was the only member of her family that bothered. ) they both remember many evenings spent relaxing on the floor in soft pillows when they were young, before they knew the expectations leveled at them, chevalier patiently teaching her sister and offering her a gentle smile when she made mistakes.

- the second half of the runaway duo. an individual who often seems to slip into something of a dreamlike state; 

- born mute, but works in a setting where that doesn’t present much of a problem. 

- communicates through usage of sign language if someone displays a willingness to be receptive and respectful, but otherwise doesn’t bother, and makes use of mostly gestures and facial expressions while tuning out those who are too much effort to be worth her time.

- another alternative and one that she quite enjoys for the inclusion of emojis is texting! chevalier will text your cost-per-text plan into the ground. and she loves emojis.

- keeps a notepad on her in the event that she is both forced into an interaction that she cannot just serenely drift away from if she doesn’t like where it’s going.

- has a preternatural ability to communicate with and attract cats, and specifically cats. she eventually persuaded vira to adopt and keep healthy two strays that had grown attached to her ( and though vira’s loathe to admit it, she begrudgingly acknowledges that yes, despite all the trouble with vet bills, the cats were the right decision, she loves them a ton. )

- their names are lux and umber; she’s an excitable golden-furred tabby, and he’s a rather subdued tortoiseshell, respectively.

- she has connected with a few of her coworkers and others she has met in the community, and is always encouraging vira to do the same. between the two, she is more outgoing, but also a lot more spacey. chevalier approaches life with a broad, slightly-blurred focus. she looks to the forest, but occasionally finds herself forgetting the trees.

- sleeps a lot. she tires extremely easily, both physically and socially.

- regards everyone with a degree of emotional detachment that takes some time to get used to. she’s not ignoring you, she just has always had trouble expressing herself fully.

- actually is better at reading people than vira, though her appearance and attitude often lead towards people writing her off as airheaded and naive. make no mistake; she’s the sharper of the two, and she makes sure to give her sister eerily insightful advice whenever she feels it necessary.

- enjoys baking, and sometimes delivers pastries to their hall neighbors in their townhouse in cotes.

- lives with their mother and a stepfather, who have a fair amount of money and are kind to them. never met their father or learned the circumstances of their parents’ separation; just knows mom got full custody one way or another

- pretty chill and mostly happy, but they grew up with mild depression regardless of circumstances in their real world, so that persists here

- attending the university like they would have been normally

- no particular life-consuming animosity toward anyone (though they still want to help out against injustices by pursuing a career in law)

- has never met any Onai until just now basically, because it would break the real them to have memories of a life with them with so little suffering (lol)

Seeing a college student plead for someone to try on her fashions was likely a strange sight, but the model she was using for her shoot hadn’t shown up! It was a tragedy unlike any other! “How about it?”

“Hey, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” Quentin asked after speeding over to the redhead with a camera around his neck. A glare was directed at the other’s entire being, though his focus was largely kept by the source of his ire. “Seriously, a camera?”

Crossing both arms over his chest, Quentin shook his head. It was bad enough he had rival gangs to deal with so a vagrant with a way of capturing evidence was the last straw. Still, he didn’t call for backup just yet, though his eyes glanced towards a curve in the road where he knew one of his lieutenants was selling stolen auto parts.

“So, who sent you?” Before the other man had time to answer, he added, “And don’t lie—you’re outnumbered and outmatched, kid.”

Ai dashed into the room and out again just as quickly.

"Nevermind! I found it! Aahh, I'm already running late. I promised the stage production I'd help out with the set..." He reappeared in the doorway with his coat, hopping on one leg while he tried to get his shoes on.

"Hey, you're not ready to go?" He stopped jumping and almost fell over looking at Kuri. "Are you feeling okay? I thought you might like helping the crew paint, but if you don't want to go...?"

Ai's voice got higher towards the end indicating a question while he looked at his little sister with concern.

HOW PARTICIPATING IN MULTIPLE EVENTS WORKS

As a preliminary reminder: you can only claim participation for a single event regardless of how many you participate in. Participating in multiple events is more to help others get interactions as most members will be choosing different things.

Characters are sent to a different digital reconstruction of the city depending on which rerun you're doing. Areas unique to the event are recreated in this space too.

Characters will not remember being in multiple events at the same time during the event period. You can't have a thread in Subversion and then hop into The Maskerade Festival and have your character recall being in Subversion right before that. They will remember all of the events after this event period is over, however.

Because the event reruns take place in a digital space, there is no 1:1 timeline with the outside world. Reruns have no tangible effect on the city where business continues as usual. Just because your character feels like they spent a week in an event does not mean a week has passed in the city proper. Just keep in mind that events do canonically last two to four weeks depending on the event, so your character couldn't spend more than that amount of time (from their perspective) in a single event rerun.

There were items in Fibonacci’s surface she could find elsewhere with some effort, but they couldn’t compare to the feel of the stores there. Karen had long become a recognized customer in the best establishments, and today left a store with a variety of silk flowers in a simple tote bag. 

She was still deciding whether to swing by somewhere else or call it a day when she spotted the girl: someone she hadn’t seen for a while. The distance hadn’t erased her questions and concerns, though --- the social functions her parents pulled her to had both briefly acquainted her with the Fujiwara parents once, and later carried rumors even to younger ears. 

“Fujiwara!” Karen called out, waving her free hand high over her head and bouncing on one foot. Louder than she needed to be as usual, but that meant it would get across to all but the most distracted of targets. She was already on her way over without waiting for an equally pleased reaction. “It’s been so long! How are you?”

Karen had never really been friends friends with the strangely absent daughter, but she wouldn’t let that stop her from trying to reconnect with a classmate!

   As the sun begun to set in the distance, it was about the time the girl decided just what in the world would she do. Normally she’d come with some ellaborate plan to steal something, usually Steve, or even Ruby, would be around to lend her a hand, but tonight was only Mae. Normally she wandered around the streets with a bat in hand, but tonight she just felt like taking a stroll around one of the wards- the Fibonacci Ward, specifically - with a bag of potato chips in hand.

  Something told her, in the back of her mind, tonight could be something different. Maybe something exciting could happen, or she’d somehow manage to get into a fight. It’s been quite a while since… Actually no, that’s an awful, terrible idea- And that’s exactly when she hears some rustling. Oh boy.

  She looked into the source of the noise, unsure of what to do. “Who’s there?” She asks, as she stares.

still a monster in this verse! the whole concepts of boss monsters and such though don’t exist. he just stands out A Lot and he’s usually viewed as a bit scary to many humans.

which is why he’s finding it a bit harder to get by. it’s hard to run a daycare when you’re a scary-looking monster, even if you’re nice! the kids enjoy spending time with him though once they get past the fact that he’s eight feet tall.

asgore adopting human kids is a constant in every universe, apparently - because his daughter is (  @undyingjustice​ ) undyne, a human in this world! she likes to get in fights with people who are rude about her dad, though he discourages it of course.

dreams of opening up a flower shop, but it’s not looking likely now unfortunately. he’s getting older, after all. :,( he’s still relatively happy, though - flower shop or not! )

please be his friend oh my god, he’s not horribly depressed for once but he is very lonely on account of. yknow. not being human :,)

in this au, mewtwo is a human named eden. they’re in their mid 30s and they are the single parent of two toddlers, paxton and micah. ( pikatwo & meowthtwo ! ), who often have playdates with silver ( the child of @bossrocket​ ).

they had a fairly normal upbringing with their father and half-sister ( ambertwo ) and their other half-sibling, eve ( @origingened​ ). they are the youngest of all the siblings.  their father was the head of a scientific company of some sort, though when he passed away control of company was to be passed down to eve, the oldest.

at some point in time they tried to be fully independent and prove that they could fend for themself - which they were able to do, albeit through great difficulty. things took a turn for the worse when they were responsible for the twins as well and barely able to scrape by. 

things only got even more hectic and frustrating for them when eve decided to hand over control of the company to them instead - so eden was stuck raising their kids AND controlling a company & finances they never had to deal with before. oof.

unbeknownst to them, the company had ties with giovanni’s ( @bossrocket​ ) and they soon met. eden looked up to him a great deal as he knew how to handle a business and even years later currently looks up to him as a mentor and perhaps even a friend. they are also aware of and now involved in the less than legal aspects of this partnership and have a skewed moral compass now more than ever. they are content with this.

they haven’t spoken to eve in years, and are unaware of eve’s current activities.

to keep up appearances ( and maintain control over certain parts of the city ), they provide funding to several business and institutions - one of which being the university that @redlichbluelich [ barry ], @perihelionpilot [ peri ]. and @mvrderbot [rin] work at/are associated with. 

they are an extremely powerful figure in the city both financially and through sheer power alone. they aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty ( or rather, that of their employees ) and will do what it takes to stay successful. power rules the world, after all.

she notices the dogs before she notices their owner.

-- rather, the dogs notice her, first. she figures she must still smell like food, having just left her usual place for lunch, by the way they strain on their leashes to get closer to her; not aggressively, chevalier notes, but inquisitively.

she squats down to offer a hand to them both, palm-down, so they can become acquainted; her dress is trailing on the sidewalk, in the slush of just-melted snow, but she doesn’t care. her expression is apologetic, lips in a half-smile -- they seem to be searching her person for any remnants of her meal, but she doesn’t have any. not anymore. she already visited her own “stray”, so to speak.

but they seem satisfied enough with gentle scratching under their chins. sitting like she is, they’re both taller than her, so its easy to maneuver her hand into a position to pet them both --

-- and, oh, she’s been rude.

in a hurry, she stands, eyes wide, and gestures frantically to the man holding their leashes -- he seems bemused if nothing else, and that does nothing to make chevalier feel less conspicuous. she didn’t think to ask, because, well... she can’t ask, not that easily. reading the dogs seemed to be more important than reading the man -- the man now staring at her with blue eyes ringed with dark circles, obviously waiting for some sort of explanation.

she doesn’t... really have one. the dogs seemed like they wanted attention, so she gave it to them. it was a natural reaction.

chevalier struggles to unlock her smartphone with cold fingers, and then, as is routine, quickly navigates to the notepad app and scrawls with one hand:

‘ sorry i forgot to ask usually work with stray animals not pets ’

she turns the screen to the man, then, using her other hand to form an outward-facing fist that moves in to press to her lips, mute; she’s not sure if he’ll understand, but it’s an automatic gesture. -- in fact, he probably won’t. most people don’t, anyways, and he looks imposing, so she might be better off just leaving. tentatively, she raises her hand in a gesture of farewell -- just forget it happened, mind her own business, she didn’t embarrass herself by petting a stranger’s dogs without asking, move on, go home. she’s quite ready to start at a brisk pace away from him --

-- until one of the dogs lightly headbutts her leg as she turns around. it’s enough to make her pause and look back.

♔  Age 24. Looks about 188 cm, now that there isn’t a seal on his non-powers.

♔  Actually has a lizard now: a blue tongue skink! Her name is Vega.

♔  Was from a nobody family, but the conflict with his father, stepmother, and stepbrother still took place over supposedly not having enough money for two children (a lie). He killed them in self defense after their few attempts to kill him, and then started going by a false last name. 

♔  After working up enough savings and securing scholarships, became a late college student studying as a chemistry major. Sky high grades.

♔  Seems well-adjusted and liked by his fellow students, but he tends to periodically go out and kill those that had been friends or associates with his father and stepmother.

♔  Has a semblance of real emotion now that he’s not devil-contracted, but it’s down deep. He really loves that lizard and the few people that hate him, though!
