If I were in charge of creating Fo4 it would be a hell of a lot worse but I would’ve made the intro bit let you pick from a set of careers, all of which gave you a perk for the game start. I would have it be kinda like the GOAT in Fo3, where you choose your future (I’d probably just have the Vault-Tec rep ask you what your job is)

Such as:

- Soldier (start with power armour training or like a faster reload time or something)

- Lawyer (Speak checks are all one degree easier)

- Engineer (Scrapping armour/weaponry gets you double scrap)

- Doctor (Stimpaks heal 50% of your health, food heals 1.5x its standard value)

- Salesperson (Merchants sell you goods for 25% cheaper)

And maybe like a few more. Your spouse would not have any dialogue related to their work (the Hi Love tape would simply have them say ‘maybe I’ll dust myself off and get back to work’ or something)

I’d also let you pick if Shaun and the spouse (Nora/Nate) were your son/spouse or nephew/sibling or brother/parent or 2nd cousin/cousin etc. Family relations but it can be very loose or something.
