Hello MacGyver Fandom!
It is that time again - we are asking you to submit your prompt ideas for this year’s Cairo Day Celebration!
This year we are going to go about it a little differently: there will be the option to submit written prompts and visual prompts.
But how does that work?
Don’t be scared, we have a handy little manual for you.
Written Prompts
These work just like they did last year. You can submit up to 10 prompts!
This can be tropes like the following: Hurt/Comfort, Mission Fic, Found Family…
You can also submit AU ideas like: Coffee Shop AU, College/Highschool AU, Science Fiction AU…
There is really a space where you can go wild. You want a Mr and Ms Smith AU? Write it down!
Visual Prompts
Now this is new! Here you can submit up to 10 pictures as visual prompts. But how does it work?
You pick your visual prompts. These can be any kind of picture, perhaps a picture of a city at night, or a picture of some pyramids.
Then you upload them in the form - up to a certain size that should be no problem at all.
If you’re now thinking: “I have ideas, but where do I find pictures?” Again, we got you!
Unsplash and Pexels are two excellent websites filled with tons of photos completely free to use! You can type in whatever you want and just see if you find a picture that inspires you! Or you just scroll through their front page, to see some randomized pictures!
Where can I submit my prompts?
You can submit your prompts, both written and visual, on this Google Form:
Cairo Day Celebration Prompts
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an ask - we can answer all of your questions there.
Until then, we’ll see each other in Cairo. ;)

I think a lot of abled people get confused about ableism because they fail to recognize how diverse a category disability is. There are so many kinds of disabilities - intellectual, sensory, motor, chronic illness, neurodivergence, limb differences, to name a few - and people in these categories will have different needs.
Which is why you often end up with disability advocates saying seemingly "contradictory" things. One group may be advocating for more support while another wants increased independence. People with a terminal illness will fight for a cure and more research whereas some ND/sensory disabilities want to stop having their experience medicalized, and so on. The kinds of ableism that people experience will also vary for that reason.
And having one kind of disability doesn't make you an expert on all of them! Which is why it's important to have diverse disability rep within organizations and groups. I've encountered organizations in the past that claim to be accessible/disability friendly because they have one disabled person on their board, only to find them woefully unequipped to deal with my very different disabilities.
This disability pride month I really encourage abled "allies" to examine the ways they try to flatten disability into a monolith and to make an effort to listen to and uplift diverse disabled voices.

The news that MacGyver is cancelled is heartbreaking. We all knew it could happen, no show is ever truly safe, but seeing the words ‘MacGyver to end after 5 seasons’ hurt more than I expected it to. No matter what, we had 94 episodes and that’s more than a lot of shows get! 📎 I’m going to enjoy these next three episodes fully, and enjoy all 94 forever, because I don’t foresee myself ever not loving these characters!

jack comes back au where he walks into the war room, eyes zeroing in on Russell Taylor, and just fucking screeches
“punchface guy??!! the guy who bought up the phoenix is punchface guy?”
russ’ eyebrows do something that is simultaneously impressive and slightly concerning, staring at jack with obvious confusion in his eyes “what kind of face?”
“punchface! you’re the original punchface, the reason I even coined that term! oh my GOD-”
“I don’t- I don’t believe we’ve met before?” he ventures carefully, everyone else including matty staring between them like they’re following a ping pong match to the death. jack snorts. “of course not, you have a punchface. I punched you. I think I broke your nose and gave you a concussion, you wouldn’t remember. think it was in Glasgow or sumn, like ten years ago.”
“that was YOU?”

you know what, I'm actually tentatively hopeful for Desi's character after those last few episodes - and the show, tbh, cause personally I think that she's one of the deciding factors that's going to massively influence the direction it takes. Monica's Desi is so markedly different from Lenkov's that I'm curious to see where else she'll take her. It's so refreshing to have her be something other than Mac's Shitty Girlfriend, and quite frankly, if they take the whole thing slow enough this is even something I can see them working through as a team. I mean, full disclosure, I still can't get behind MacRiley, but that's just a personal preference, and I don't even mind that much if they do it right, eg. if they handle the love-triangle-resolution with the grace it deserves and don't end it in Desi getting killed to clear the way.
Because, in hindsight, I absolutely think that that's the way Lenkov was heading - his dynamics were just incredibly toxic, and watching his episodes in Seasons 4 + 5 is just upsetting and vaguely uncomfortable to me, especially when it came to Desi. Like I've said many times, there was just no graceful way out of that clusterfuck, especially not one where they'd make any semblance of a believable team after if they didn't kill Desi. Let's be honest, they didn't make one in the past two seasons either, but with Monica I have actual hope that they're going to let Mac and Desi grow apart properly instead of constantly going from hot to cold to a probable MacRiley explosion with lots of drama. Would it also be nice if they addressed her abhorrent past behaviour and abuse? Yeah. Are they going to? Probably not, no.
But again, I do think that the Lenkov-era was gearing towards either Desi's death or more drama, or maybe just another magical cut to another storyline with no actual resolution like they did with James. And that would've been really upsetting to see, both because it's a shitty, sexist plot-device but also because Desi is incredible, and having her reduced to that... yeah. No.

Desi: Are you okay in there?
Bozer crying in the bathroom: *sniffles* No.
Desi: Do you want to talk about it?
Bozer: …Yes
Desi, under her breath: Goddammit
