I think I’m going to go with it being a side effect of the barrier’s creation and that it could be removed without the barrier being removed.
The council decided to leave it there because they thought it would be a punishment for the villains since it would be for them (the heroes).
Everything I know about the descendants books comes from this site or ao3, so I want to know - for the barrier, is it canon (in the books) that the cloud cover was created as a result of the barrier being formed or that FG, or someone else put it up there? And if it was created because of the barrier being created, is it necessary for its stability? Ik it disappears instantly in D3 when the barrier breaks, but that doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be there.
Because it being up there matches some of the villains aesthetics, and while I'm pretty sure none of them could've somehow put it up there, I was thinking about if it's actually needed there, and if it's actually a punishment to some of them. Basically what i'm saying - I'm trying to see if I could have either the Vk's convince the council to get rid of it, or have one of them steal the wand or another weapon to remove it themselves.

I love the idea that a bunch of the Vk's only eat veggies because their parent makes them because they think it's an evil thing to do.
Now I'm imagining them finding out, sometime after going to Auradon, that it isn't a bad thing for parents to make their kids eat veggies and how horrified/upset or whatever they'd be.
Acces to vitamins on the Isle of the Lost
...Yeah, @descendants-extended send me a simple question/observation and then we got carried away. Enjoy.
A: yes, they can get the protovitamin beta caroten from yolks, livers, maybe pumpkins. Pumpikns are mood, Isle does have pumpkins. The rest depends on how much sunshine they're getting.
D: yes, from fishes. Now, the fishes might be mildly toxic in itself, due to the pollution, but at least the VKs have straight bones.
E: found in leaf-vegetables, vegetable oils and almonds. Somehow, I doubt that. Also in cereals, so a bit at least. Not enough of vitamin E equals allergies and problems with digestive system.
K: leaf-vegetables. Not enough of vitamin K causes heavy bleeding, hematoms, extremely heavy periods, as the vitamin K makes the blood condense. The VKs are fucked and probably get random nosebleeds often.
Mal getting a nosebleed at the cookie scene in D1:
Lonnie: „...You are bleeding-“
Mal: unbothered, smears the blood on her face and continues stiring:
Jay, Carlos, Evie: „This is normal.“
B-komplex: depending on the quality of food Auradon sends, I think this one is managable. Found in cereals, milk, meat, leaf-vegetables.
Vitamin C: Again, the VKs are fucked. There is no way the poor kids are getting enough vitamin C not to get at least mild version of scurvy. Not to mention that most of their parents don't know what scurvy is.
Here is a list of parents that probably do know what scurvy is, or force their kids to eat veggies for other reasons:
Captain Hook. He's a pirate, duh. He knows of scurvy. Not to mention that in some versions of his tale he has higher education and I vibe with that.
Helga Sinclair. She's an educated woman, ok?
Dr. Facilier, he looked it up like a good parent.
Mozenrath and Sadira from Aladin TV series.
Varian and Cassandra from Tangled TV series.
Shan Yu. He seems practical like that, so, probably?
Anastasia Tremaine, if she had her redemption arc in-universe. She doesn't necessarily know why kids should eat fruits and veggies, but hey, she's trying.
Malefincent. She's a special case. She does not know how humans (or half-humans), work and what they should be eating. She does, however, know, that kids hate eating their veggies, so she thinks that forcing Mal to eat her veggies is a perfectly evil way to parent. Boom. Nailed it.

For clarification on all these 'true love' occurrences; A lot of cursed objects were sent to the isle and;
Lots of cursed objects around + a bunch of feral/impulsive children = children getting cursed.
Vain villain parents who want their kids to look perfect + their kids getting cursed = the parents' ignoring the fact that whatever their kids were cursed with 'magically' disappeared eventually without anyone curing them - if the villain even noticed that the kid was cursed in the first place.
And curses don't just magically disappear on their own.
There have been two separate (known) instances of a True Love’s kiss on the isle.
Neither of which approximately 98% of the villains & sidekicks will find out about.

What if Maleficent had finished saying the word "wand" during the video call in D1?
Chaos......or something, that's what.
I may or may not elaborate on this & may or may not add it to my au.

Lowkey think Belle should be the one to kill King Adam. Like, the others get in ready to kill him right there and he's just dead and Belle's standing over his body with a bloody dagger in hand
#since there are 2 Belle's in your au#Which one? Belle Legume or Ben's mom Belle?#either way though - good for her

I have a theory that Auradon has the same amount of food waste as our world, and it’s all spoiled by the time it gets to the isle and that’s why none of the isle kids outwardly appear to be really starving (in the movies anyway). But going from spoiled food to fresh, especially rich, food too quickly might still cause problems realistically.
You really shouldn't have put all that candy back there. Candy contains a lot of common and uncommon allergens (worst offender being the peanut butter cups, which contain dairy, peanuts, and are not gluten free) and you have no idea what these kids are allergic to. They probably don't even know what they're allergic to. Unless you're willing to risk them needing to go to the hospital instead of AP, probably not a good idea. Are there even epinephrine auto-injectors back there?
Like, I get the sentiment. But that wasn't safe.

Just a small idea
So. the vks are getting fed up with all the judgement (this is shortly after they're taken off the Isle) and Jay are little smart idiot. Says, 'why do they get to judge us on what our parents did, there's did some stupid and weird shit.' which sparks an idea with Mal. So next Monday when they here someone let's say snow whites son bad mouthing them over what there parents did. Evie innocently asks Mal who the kid was while he was in hearing range and Mal says, I think he's snow whites, you know his father was the one to kiss a 14 year old girl that was thought to be dead.
And it continues. Audrey. Your dad kissed a girl he barely knew when she was asleep, consent much?
Chad. Your dad didn't even recognize your mother's face, only her shoe. Does he have a foot fetish.
And on and on until the judgement of their parents stop in fear the vks will humiliate them over what there parents did too.

The third option would probably be most complicated because I would have to change a good amount of my lore and stuff (mainly around how Jay was kidnapped), but I could do it.

I have a theory about why Iago is on the isle, when he became good in the sequel. So I watched the 1992 Aladdin again a while ago, and I realized that Iago is actually the one who came up with the plan for Jafar to marry Jasmine to become Sultan and then kill her and her father afterwards. And they talked about this while alone in the room.
So, what if Jasmine, Aladdin, and co., hadn’t known until after the isle was built and Auradon was rounding up & reviving villains, and they felt that Iago deserved to also be punished for that as well - so they sent him off to the isle.
Now, i’m not sure how they found out that was Iago’s plan and not Jafar’s since none of the villains or sidekicks or minions/henchmen got trials in my au, but I’ll figure it out lol.
The stories are all actually fairytale stories that are magically written down as they happen in my au, so maybe that’s how that happened.
(and yes, I am aware descendants & Disney doesn’t consider sequels canon, I’m talking as if they are considered canon here)

Since all the trash is going to the isle, that means there’s no landfills in Auradon, right.
So did Auradon tell everyone (general public) what they were doing with their trash, or did they say that the trash was going to landfills and then not do anything to make it believable? Like, is there a conspiracy that everyone knows is true going around? lol

Where/when was Mal dragged over the coals for the love spell in canon? From what I can tell, the writers & canon praises her for it and excuses it. And it’s the fandom that drags her for it.
You’re right about Doug though.
Honestly it was just SO hypocritical of the writers to address the love spell and have Mal dragged over the coals for it, but they let DOUG'S behaviour which is including but not limited to stalking and cheating accusations with no apology I might add slide!
I will try to be fair and say that if the 'technically yes' comment to the stalking question had been the only sign of toxicity. Then yes it could have been passed off as just a teenage boy getting tongue-tied round his new crush.--even if it should still be talked about, if only just to clarify, especially with Evie coming from the Isle. But as said above that is NOT the ONLY time toxicity is shown in the Devie ship and NONE. Of. It. Is. Even. ADDRESSED in a conversation between Evie and Doug.
But my point is that the writers were ABSOLUTE HYPOCRITES to let Mal be dragged over the coals and Bal be the ship called toxic. For something Mal addressed and atoned for when they have a TRULY toxic pair right next to Bal that is never even called out/addressed!
