Hilton Grosvenor Edinburgh - Tale of 2 halves

I’ve called this a tale of 2 halves as that is the best way to describe it. Hiltons aren’t cheap, not massively expensive but for the price you demand a certain quality and we didn’t get that in our first room.
After a 4 hour drive from Durham we check in into a nice lobby and take the lift to our floor. We make our way down a small corridor to our room and we’re welcomed by the smallest room ever. Now this isn’t a bad room and i’m sure the bed would have been nice but for £140 a night it wasn’t up to standard. The room was small and drafty, floorboards creeky and the bathroom had fixtures from god knows when.
I hate complaining and rarely do it but I rang up and Hilton true to their word made it right. They agreed the room wasn’t great and offered us a free upgrade.
Returning to the hotel a few hours later our bags are stupid amounts of luggage our in our upgraded room. It’s easily 3 times bigger and the bed is enormous. My thanks go to Hilton for improving our experience.
We purchased a deal which included dinner so after some confusion about what was and wasn’t included in dinner we make our way down to dinner. Food is great and the restaurant begins to fill up as we leave. Bizarelly there was only 5 couples and 3 members of staff and it took ages to get drinks.
Overall the weekend was nice. The cheapest of the hiltons in Edinburgh it shows i’m afraid. Rooms are nice but slipping compared to their Novotel colleagues. There was also zero parking onsite and at £3 an hour outside we went elsewhere. Luckily Hilton gave us a voucher so it was £14 a night instead of £28.
Overall I would stay again but I would pay more for an upgraded room.
