Ah yeah, that would definitely be something to watch out for. I did just introduce them today and it seems that Pepper, the Sprigatito, is the more socially confident of the two. So I believe that with consistent redirection of the herding instinct to a more appropriate behavior there shouldn't be any large issues on that front.
Pepper seems to be comfortable setting boundaries and corrections[It was thoroughly amusing to see her do a paw-to-the-face correction while she was playing with my Espurr, Bean, who went a little too intense for Pepper's taste] and with Plums, the Yamper, being the more submissive of the two i think they will settle into a comfortable dynamic smoothly
That is all very good points you've made, I suppose I'll find a suitable 'mon eventually. Thank you for the info. Is there an upper limit on size you would advise against?
[From @marrows-field-guide]
Heyo, I've just come into ownership of a mostly blind Sprigatito variant and have adopted a Yamper variant in preparation to train as a companion/guide 'mon for her[as well as some mobility tasks for me as I suffer from severe fatigue at times]
I know a fair bit about caring for special needs 'mon as well as training assistance companions for them, and knowing that Yamper is a herding species that Plums will pick up on a lot of the guidance tasking on her own with a bit of direction. However I was wondering if there was anything you would recommend I do or keep in mind.
I've also never really trained for tasks that help humans, nor have I ever actually accommodated myself. So I was wondering if you had any suggestions for tasks that would suit a situation where someone struggles with mobility. I figure retrieval/carry is a good start but I'm unsure what else
Plums will of course be the 'tito's companion above all else, but I figured having some spare tasks in the back pocket might be useful. Especially with how driven/intelligent this pup seems to be, the extra engagement might help burn energy.
Hello Marrow :)
One very important thing to keep in mind is that because Yampers are a herding breed of pokemon, you need to make sure Plum is not actually attempting to herd the Sprigatito.
Many herding 'mon, Yamper included, will direct the people/pokemon they are trying to herd by nipping at their heels and legs. While this is fine for herds of Wooloo and Mareep who can take this treatment and return blows if needed, this behavior could cause genuine harm to your Sprigatito who would also have a harder time fighting back if they needed to due to the vision impairment.
This is more due to personal preference, but I wouldn't recommend having Plum learn two sets of tasks, for the Sprigatito and for you. It can be confusing for pokemon to learn separate tasks for two different entities, and it is generally better for them to just focus on a singular companion to task for, lest they mix up tasks or become unsure who to help first and become anxious.
I wouldn't recommend Yamper as a mobility aid assisting pokemon due to their smaller size. Generally for mobility, the preference is a pokemon around waist height, wherever that is for you. If you want to stay in the evolution line, Yamper's evolution Boltund make excellent mobility aid pokemon.
As for mobility aid tasks, the ones that I recommend generally are: Medication/Water/Item Retrieval. Medication/Water/Item Pickup. Assisting with Position Changes (e.g. Sitting to Standing, Laying to Sitting, etc). Provide Forward Momentum (in wheelchair, when walking, up inclines, up stairs). Counter-Balance, Bracing, Stablizing, etc. Carrying Items Up or Down Stairs. Clean Up Items on the Floor (put in basket). Clean-Up Trash on the Floor (put in the wastebasket). Open/Close Cabinet/Drawer. Open/Close Dishwasher. Opening/Closing Refrigerator. Open/Close Bathroom Door. Open/Close Doors (Disability Button). Opening/Closing Doors (pulling open using a tug). Open/Close Doors (pushing open with nose or paws). Pull and Hold Heavy Door.

I'm so happy to have Plums join the family, I picked her up earlier today and introduced her to the little mystery variant Sprigatito that she will be companion to
Tumblr media
I'd say it went well
I've decided to name the Sprigatito, Pepper. Since she's a fiesty lil thing who goes feral for spicy foods.
Funnily enough, even though she is sight impaired, it seems that Pepper is the more socially confident of the pair, which kind of tracks considering my theory around Plums' unique circumstances.
I thoroughly look forward to watching these two grow together~
Thank you for the providing me opportunity to adopt Plums And thank you @tobias-the-legend for finding her and bringing her someplace safe. Please feel free to reach out if you ever want updates on her
Hello there. Clay had suggested that I check here.
I have a slight issue: I currently have a Yamper-Espeon hybrid in my care, but I have NO IDEA what to do with the little one.
Do you have any open slots in order to take her in? I don't know what else to do, I can't leave her all alone and I don't know how to help her.
[ Attached is an image of this hybrid below in Tobias' fountain. ]
Tumblr media
Huh. Never heard of a first stage/evolved hybrid. No matter. We can take her.
Plums
Tumblr media
Name: Plums
Species: Yamper
Type: Electric/Psychic
Terra Type: Psychic
Breed: Espeon mix
Sex: Female
Height: 1'00
Weight: 29.8 lbs
Ability: Ball fetch
Moveset: Tackle, Nuzzle, Tail whip, Bite
Imma be honest here: I've never seen a Yamper that looks like this. Yes, I've cared for Yamper mixed with Eeevee and Boltunds mixed with Espeon, but never this. I think it's either a really rare mutation that caused her to be like that, and she keeps using her osychic abilities to steal treats from the cupboard. Ugh. Anyways. Plums is an energetic puppy gifted with psychic abilities and also the ability to give extra good puppy dog eyes and act mischievous. She really enjoys running around and playing in the sun, so I recommend only adopting her if you're place can provide that. Loves treats, and she will find a way to get them. If interested in adopting her, reblog thisnpost with your qualifications and reasons why.

Huh, good to know
[Note to self; once I hand in all my paperwork and do the necessary follow up to get my permits, no jumping into the crater]
I'd been informed there's... unique 'mon in there
But I didn't realize they're considered more dangerous than the more typical [intensive research] field work situations
Though with my Research-Dex being a pain in the ass about patching in the Paldean Dex info, I'm not fully up to date on what exactly the Pokemon in Paldea are like. [I tried scrolling the "app" and got frustrated with how minimal the information is, much prefer the expanded community notes on the research servers]
That... wasn't in the job description I was forwarded at all however.
Makes a bit more sense why I was asked for by name now though
I'm considered particularly "Hardy" in my field of work and am a seasoned trainer, even if battling and league shit has never been all that appealing to me
Is there any more info you're able to share that might have been kept under wraps from me?
I'm capable of course but I work better without dangerous surprises
Hello, a PSA to all. Please do not try to jump into the Great Crater without permission . That is strictly prohibited. Sky battles however? I will consider.
You might die. Thank you.

So like, I have a question for those with Research-Level Dex's in Paldea
Where the fuck can I get mine patched for Paldean 'mons????????
Everywhere I look online just says shit about an "app", which I downloaded and it 100% doesn't do what I need[also it doesn't connect to the community-boards where you send new information for peer-review, which is like a good 1/3 of my work tasks]
Or anything I do find ends in dead links
I spent bank to get the long range scanner on my current dex so I really don't want to have to buy a whole new one
It's possible I need a full software update?[I may be a few behind if I'm being honest] But even then I can't find SHIT about where to go to get that done.
Help
Pleaseeeee

I mean props to them for staying on brand I guess?
Maybe they should commit to the bit and play it all year round.
I don't condone this of course. But if they're gonna be out of pocket they shouldn't half ass it

I traveled from Galar, across Kalos[after a few days with my better half] and into Paldea by train
That's NOTHING
How the hell am I "jet-lagged"
Sure I then immediately trekked from Levincia all the way to the Lab south of Los Platos
But that still isn't much of anything???
I live for field work, why is this what makes me actually feel the fatigue that wracks body at all times
I even got to sleep under the sky last cycle!
I should be feeling better than ever >.>
But noooooo
{{I'm still adjusting to a new sleep med and I'm dissociated as all hell to boot so my posting may be sporadic, I've also never done this sort of thing[blog rp] before so if anyone has any tips feel free to do me or whatev
Hope im doin this shit right lol}}

more like the bugs caught me lol
I would regularly fall asleep outside during the day and wake up at dusk with many a bug 'mon laying on/with me.
Typically wing-ed lines for some reason
Once I walked back into the house with a Mothim stuck in my hair that I'd not noticed in my sunset stupor.
My guardian did not find it as amusing as I did
The Mothim was fine btw, just as confused as I was though lol
Actually wait- did everyone go through a bug catcher phase as a kid? I know it wasn't a phase for some people but I feel like every other kid I remember from when I was younger had a bug catcher phase at some point.

When you have to teach your Espeon to "Find Shine" because the void doesn't always stare back
Especially when said void has learned to "go dim" when it's medicine time to avoid detection
My better half noticed that Rae[the Espeon] started to sit by Shine's hiding spot after we would spend a while searching for him so we leaned into that tendency lol
umbreon owners do NOT buy a black rug you will spend 30 minutes panicking and thinking your buddy disappeared into the ether meanwhile he takes his mandatory mid evening nap

Finally done at the lab
So the little blind 'mon I was handed over? I was right? Kinda?
She is a Sprigatito, but even aside from her disabilities, there's something... off? Her coloring doesn't fit the Standard or Shiny criteria, and she has some interesting physical variations that I haven't seen before.
Her fur is tipped with what seems to be an iridescent, semi-transluscent colorway? And her main coat color leans a lot more warm toned than I would expect
Maybe she is a subspecies? But my contact at the lab said he asked around to local breeders and she doesn't match any subspecies that have been documented
He gave me the address for the breeder her egg batch came from, so I'll make my way over there eventually[it's all the way on the other side of Paldea] to ask some questions
I also need to get my hands on a dex/scanner update that gives me access to the Paldean Dex so I can get an accurate reading off her since some things aren't adding up.
She is definitely blind, though to what degree I still need to figure out. It doesn't seem to bother her though, and she gets around well all things considered.
Either way, she's safe and happy with me and my team
The Bean seems to be very curious about her
I have an idea of what to name her, but I want to get to know her a bit more first to make sure it fits.
Since it's late I'm gonna go off wandering and try to find where I'll set up camp in the morning.
Maybe I'll see more interesting 'mons on my way!~

WHO'S THAT POKEMON???
Tumblr media
So I finally have service that's letting me upload pics lol THIS is the pic that my contact sent me of the lil blind girly I'm taking in don't get me wrong, it's an adorable pic
but I really don't understand all this cloak and dagger around what specifically she is... is it because they aren't fully sure???
if she is what I think she is then she looks really close to standard here, or at most shiny?
but shiny doesn't quite fit that coloring... hmmmmmm
ANYWAYS i love that the Chorizo is so much more in focus than the actual subject of the photo even the cam is in agreement with the 'mon as to what is the most important part of this situation
