Needle Felted Krampus Head
Needle Felted Krampus Head
Inspired by my friend Diane Hawkey and the making of her ceramic Krampus figures and Krampus head ornaments, I wanted to create a needle felted Krampus head. And of course I like to have a visual reference for creating things and why not share here. I don’t have every little detail, for that I would have to teach a class. For now, this is just a fun inspirational project. Hope you enjoy! PS –…

Art Elements Bee Theme Blog Hop
Art Elements Bee Theme Blog Hop
This month’s Art Elements Blog theme was Bees. So many ideas buzz around in my brain when it comes to insects. Bees are one of those insects that I do really enjoy, but can be annoying if they are not happy with you. So I try to keep them happy by planting lots of flowering plants in my garden for the longest bloom time and providing them with plenty of space for their own habitats.
Early…

How To Finish Ribbon Ends
How To Finish Ribbon Ends
I have been selling Ute’s hand painted silk ribbons (2mm round cord, Silky Ribbon and Fairy Ribbon) since 2004, and the question I receive most is: How do I finish the ends of these silks? And instantly my brain is overwhelmed because there are so many ways!
When I am looking for jewelry inspiration these days, I usually go to Pinterest to see if there are any DIY tutorials or photo…

Art Elements Blog Hop September Theme: Foliage
It is time for the September Art Elements Blog Hop reveal for the theme: Foliage. Here is the intro post from Caroline. This is such a great theme and I cannot wait to see what everyone shares (read to the bottom for the list of blog hop participants).
Foliage from my perennial garden. I look at the plants not only for their beauty at different times during their peak season, but also because…

Art Elements August Theme: Octopus Blog Hop Reveal
Art Elements August Theme: Octopus Blog Hop Reveal
I love that Claire picked Octopus as our August theme. They are one of the most interesting creatures that inhabit the oceans here on our planet. I love how they can transform their body shape and move super slinkily.
A few years ago I made these needle felted octopus, and I always wanted to get back to seeing about making their suckers out of some “O” ring beads. I had in mind making some…

Art Elements July Flowers Theme Reveal Blog Hop
Art Elements July Flowers Theme Reveal Blog Hop
Welcome to the July Theme: Flowers Reveal Blog hop. It was my turn to pick the challenge for the month, and I was curious to see what kind of flowers were in bloom now in various places in the world and how artists would find inspirations from them or from flowers in general.
My inspiration with flowers is planting flowers that are easy to take care of, mostly native plants, that help support…

Art Elements Monthly Theme: Luna Moth
Art Elements Monthly Theme: Luna Moth
Thanks to Jen Cameron for picking out this month’s Art Elements Blog Hop Theme: Luna Moth.
With an Entomology background I am fascinated by the scientific approach, but can get way too involved in the details. So this month I thought that I would just go along with what attracts me to these lovely creatures: The color and that long wing that looks like tail feathers…
First I began to make…

Art Elements Blog Monthly Theme: Birds of Prey
Art Elements Blog Monthly Theme: Birds of Prey
Welcome to this months Art Elements Blog hop: Birds of Prey theme picked by Cathy. As a child I loved watching birds. In college I took a few Avian Biology classes that established a firm base knowledge and appreciation of many kinds of birds. My passion has kept my field guide and binoculars at the ready.
My 20 year old, well loved Avian Field Guide.
These days I keep an eye on the nesting…

Art Elements Monthly Theme: White
Art Elements Monthly Theme: White
This months Art Elements Theme is based upon using white in your work. When I think of white, it tends to be in a base color sort of path. It is something to give definition, light, a brightness behind the color.
Peyote Fan Earrings in Clear, Silver Lined, and AB finished with white fireline and sterling silver findings. I love any bead with the AB finish that reflects a bit of color.

Art Elements Blog Monthly Theme: Stars
Welcome to my post for the Art Elements Blog Star Theme Reveal Blog Hop.
While working in my studio this last month I’ve listened to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on audio, then put the movies on in sequence while making some needle felted whisky gnome bottle toppers (the movies play in the background as I have seen them so many times, the visual happens automatically in my head).…

Art Elements Monthly Theme: Petroglyphs
Art Elements Monthly Theme: Petroglyphs
Welcome to my post for the October Art Elements Blog Theme Reveal: Petroglyphs.
Karen discusses what Petroglyphs are in her theme intro postfrom Oct. 2, 2018, and I do not really delve into carving stone to create, but rather into earth clay, which is then hardened into ceramic material by the heat and temperatures of my kiln. The particles that make up my ceramic clay are from the earth and to…

Art Elements Blog Theme of the Month: Fairies
Art Elements Blog Theme of the Month: Fairies
Welcome to my post for this month’s Art Elements Blog Monthly Theme: Fairies. Thank you Caroline for picking such a wonderful topic!
I have always been a believer in Fairies and the magic that other realms hold. I have memories of speaking to the little people that lived in the speakers playing the music I heard and playing for hours outside imagining that there were little creatures in nature.…
