H.G Wells
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
was an English novelist, journalist, sociologist, and historian best known for such science fiction novels as The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds and such comic novels as Tono-Bungay and The History of Mr. Polly.
Above are covers from H.G Wells's book the war of the worlds and their covers. From left to right the images go in age order as each time the book is published the cover changes and something significant is the style completely change from the actual space ship to the typography. The first one is more realistic and dictates a dystopia where as the the font of the title could emphasise more of romance story. the second becomes slightly more sci fi with the colour scheme and the font of the title being quite blocky and bold changes the theme drastically. Then the third opposes the other two completely with its simpler and retro design even though its most likely the most recent.
The third relates to my own book cover the most because of the colours being limited much like the way I used five colours while still creating detail. Along with the font that matches the design alot more than the other two, even though there isn't much of a difference between the second and third font the slight change makes a big different.

Ryan Nagata
Ryan Nataga is an artist located in Los Angeles who at one one time wanted to be a director and went to film school. However he spent some time making models, props, and costumes for hire and eventually that lucrative that directing for Nagata.
One of there first pieces he create was a recreation of an apollo suit which is said to have caught attention of many. This lead to Nagata creating replicas for private collectors, exhibits, and films.
Space suits
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The space suits he creates are patterned off a real Navy MK IV full pressure suit and made with leftover aluminized nylon fabric from “First Man.” I'm the same height as Gus Grissom so I chose to replicate his suit. His suits go so far into detail with the pockets, the material even the way some parts of the suit look slightly aged to complete the replicas.
A closer inspection into how he makes them and the technique he does into making them just like the real things can be seen in this video
youtube
I think that his space suits are really well made especially for being used in movies. The details are done so intricately for such large creations and space suits aren't the only thing he creates.
Ray guns
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His ray gun models much like his space suits are delicately made and have intricate detail that elevate their authentic look. From the four examples above the colours remind me of cartoons and sci-fi movies specifically around mars attacks.

Geminoids
To describe an android copy of a particular individual, he coined the term “geminoid,” after geminus, which is Latin for twin. He named his mechanical brother Geminoid HI-1. By building humanlike robots Ishiguro hopes to decipher what the Japanese call sonzaikan—the feeling of being in the presence of a human being.
Hiroshi Ishiguro is a Japanese engineer who created the telenoid as well as a geminoid of himself and he can be referred to the father of huminoids
Tumblr media
The fact they are almost perfect replicas is quite uncanny for me.

Telenoid
youtube
A Telenoid is a remote-controlled robot that mimics the voice and movements of a person. It's designed to be used for communication over long distances, and can be used to help people feel like they're talking to someone nearby.
Features:
SizeAbout the size of a small child
DesignMinimalistic, covered in soft vinyl, and can be designed to look like any person
CommunicationUses a combination of vocal calls and non-linguistic communication, like hugs
ControlCan be operated from anywhere in the world using a laptop and sensor headset
Purpose:
Communication: Can be used to transmit messages over long distances
Therapeutic use: May have potential to help older adults, especially those with dementia
History:
Created by Japanese roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University
The first model, the Telenoid R1, was released in August 2010
In 2011, Ishiguro also unveiled Elfoid, a pocket-size version of the Telenoid
Research:
Studies have identified some positive effects of using Telenoids with older adults, but also challenges like technical issues and operator training
Research has also suggested that storytelling may help people accept robots into their lives
I do think the robot itself is creepy with how realistic the creator made it look with the face as well as the short arms that are able to move.

Elon Musk's rocket design.
Tumblr media
The design of his starship is unique to say the least. With the exterior having no windows or external parts and the material being fully stainless steel. SpaceX is relying on the unique qualities of steel for its plans to make Mars colonisation a reality. Although the is reasoning for this as rocket oxygen tank materials must endure pressurised gases at cryogenic temperatures—below -150 °C—without leaking, something only stainless steel can guarantee.

The video above help me understand the key features of spaceships and their design. It include things like-
Materials
Lightweight: Spacecraft need to be light so they can escape Earth's gravity with less fuel.
Durable: Spacecraft materials must withstand the harsh conditions of space, including radiation, vacuum, and temperature extremes.
Solid: Spacecraft need to be solid for safety.
Propulsion
Thrust: The action of expelling gas from the engine creates thrust, which moves the rocket in the opposite direction.
Upper stage: Some spacecraft have an upper stage that can deliver them to a higher orbit.
Thrusters: Smaller thrusters can make fine adjustments to the spacecraft's orbit.
Thermal management
Temperature regulationSpacecraft need to regulate their temperature to protect their instruments and equipment.
Thermal protectionSpacecraft may have thermal protection tiles to help them survive re-entry.
Communication systems
Constant communication: Spacecraft need to be able to communicate with Earth and other spacecraft.
Radiation protection: Spacecraft need to be protected from radiation interference.

With the laser cutter connect to a computer I go my design and changed it slightly to fit how I wanted it. Once the design was sent to the laser cutter it proceed to engrave my design into the material I had. Unfortunately I had to do this twice because niether I or the teacher managed to spot the spelling error but that was an easy fix which was done by flipping the board over and reusing the laser cutter.
When it was all complete I went with the Idea of pinning tilly to the board with pins and hammering them into the board. I figured this would work well with the story of how she's with a science kit and has experiments done.

District 9
youtube
plot- In 1982, an enormous extraterrestrial spaceship arrives and hovers over the South African city of Johannesburg. Inside, an investigation team finds over a million malnourished insect-like aliens, and the South African government relocates them to a camp called District 9.
Tumblr media
The spaceship in the movie is called the prawn mothership. The overall size of the ship and the exterior signify that the ship has a purpose and looks like it hold hundreds upon thousands of extraterrestrial beings. The colour scheme consists of various gloomy colours that relate to the dystopian theme of the movie and relate to the events of the movie.

My book cover design finalised and put onto the 3d image in photoshop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some examples that I used for inspiration towards my book cover design. I am happy with how my design eventually turned out after trying different patterns and ideas and the designs above were helpful specifically the ufos one as I followed the way the made the trees stand out with the darkest colour with a much lighter colour.

The design for the board that my plushy will be displayed on.
The idea that I was going for was a lily pad as my plushy is based off a frog so I thought having the frog almost sit on top of the lily pad would be a good idea. I think I'll most likely add some thing that relate to this sort of theme like a water lily.

In maya I took a screenshot of the ufo I had created and applying that image into photoshop. With the image option at the top and continuing down through the menu to find threshold which allowed the image to solid black or have little parts of detail showing. Using this I copied the image to attempt to have highlights but after trying with multiple colours and multiple layers I decided solid colour would be a better option.
Using the website coolors to have randomly selected five colours that match and complement each other. Substituting one colour for the lighter blue that was in the final image I added the stars, the trees, repositioned the ufo and added the beam which overall turn out well and the only thing I found remotely difficult was decided which colours worked better in which places. My favourite thing about this cover is probably how to trees ended up looking with the dark blue and pink next to each other the define the layers.
Another thing that was a bit of a barrier was that the screenshot that was original there didn't work the way I wanted it to as when using the magic wand tool to delete the background it took half the ufo with it. Fortunately I was able to use a screenshot I had taken previously for a different post which worked out better.

Dust Bunnies:
Dust bunnies design is extremely unique with the creator taking something that could be innocent into almost horrifying creatures Talk about the varied use of materials? fabrics, super sculpey, clay, plastic etc.
Tumblr media
The creator has a clear trade mark with how these bunnies look and the aesthetic they follow.
Amanda Louise Spayd had a stop motion created that include her plushy and this is called 'the maker' and can be found on youtube.

What is a UV map?
UV mapping is a process of creating a 2D representation of a 3D model's surface, which allows you to apply textures, colors, and other details. In Maya, the UV Editor is a tool that lets you edit and arrange the UV coordinates of your model's polygons, also known as UV shells.
To do this you'll need the subject that you want to create the uv net with. In the maya menu the top right is workspace and in this menu is uv editing. When the workspace is set to uv editing the tab label UV and the top of the maya menu contain options and selecting automatic will make the net of the object you are uv mapping will be presented on a separate tab.
When the uv net is up you can manipulate the size of each face to how you would like it and then save it as a png to put into photoshop. When your design is done and within the line you can put it back into photoshop by holding right click and selecting assign new material and select one of the given material. When the menu shows up for the material clicking the black and white square and then file will allow you to put you design onto the object in maya.

Maya plays a huge role in creating assets and animation. It models intricate historical landmarks, designs lifelike characters, and combat sequences, and animates complex movements.
youtube
Watching the video I was able to understand how they use the model and rig it so they are able to move it like it has a skeleton. Then actors will wear a motion capture suits that can be applied to the model which will create the animation.
Description of 3D animating with a motion capture suit
Prepare the actor: The actor wears a skin-tight suit with markers or sensors attached.
Set up the cameras: Multiple cameras are placed around the actor to capture their movements from different angles.
Record the movement: The actor performs the desired movements, and the cameras record the data.
Process the data: The data is sent to a computer program to remove noise and refine the movements.
Map the data: The processed data is mapped onto a 3D model or digital character.

Love and a sandwich plushys
Love and a sandwich is a etsy business that makes many products but one of their products that stand out is their plushy's. Their plushy stock consists of unique designs while others being from movies and tv shows.
Tumblr media
This plushy is sold as 'blueberry boy' made with fleece and felt. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find much about how they're made beside that they used both hand sewing and machine. They're plushy's are very well made especially with the plushy's that are larger like the lemon grab plushy which is about 4 feet tall.

Brian McCarty
is a contemporary artist and photographer known for his work with toys. McCarty's approach is based upon integrating toy characters into real-life situations through the use of forced perspective in carefully crafted scenes. Preferring to work in-camera and without compositing, McCarty creates his photographs by sometimes traveling to exotic locations, including active war zones. Although grounded in reality, because of his use of wit and whimsy, McCarty's work is often associated with the Art-Toy, Lowbrow, and Pop Surrealist movements.
War-Toys
McCarty began the War-Toys photo series and documentary film in 2010. The project uses principles of play therapy and art therapy to explore children's firsthand accounts of war. McCarty completed his first trip to the Middle East in 2011, collaborating with children from the Spafford Children's Center in East Jerusalem and the Dheisheh Refugee Camp outside of Bethlehem. He returned to the region in late 2012 and collaborated with Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip during the escalation leading up to Operation Pillar of Defense, then with Israeli children in the nearby town of Sderot beginning on the morning of the ceasefire. McCarty has announced his intention to expand the project into additional areas on conflict around the world, including Sudan, Afghanistan, and Colombia.
Tumblr media
He also expands his work with art toys and commissions that promote other things.
An example of each can be-

The way he creates an environment the surrounds the toys in a way gives the toys a personality or brings them to life. Seeing his work is inspirational as I now have a few ideas for how I will display my plushy and the environment I want it to be set in.
