"Depends on the origin of said quiet." A hand found the heft of Scott's jaw and rested there. He'd stroke his cheek a few times as he appraised the man's features. It was nice to see him relish in a moment of peace. Comforting. Reassuring. He knew that it was redundant to request something like that of Scott but he also knew the implications of stranding one's own priorities on one specific task. Scott? He was 'the respected' leader. Sometimes beyond that of anyone else. Many looked toward him for direction. It was best that he recharge himself than constantly pour from an emptying glass.

His own mind drifts for but a second.

"Besides, how can you be a narc when you're now the top officer?" Jean chuckled. Whether it was this universe or their own, it needed its blade and shield- The Phoenix. Eyes transfixed on Scott as it seemed they we both touch-starved. The way Jean could yearn for the man was indescribable. He'd give him a gentle kiss upon his lips with a gentle buss. His body leaned into it. To stop thinking would have him in a spiral and while he couldn't promise Scott that, he'd make a sufficient trade. He'd give the man all he had while he was here. He interlocked their fingers. He gently kissed his knuckles. His thumb caressed what he could of his hand. "Tell you what! We've got some time. What if it is made just for us without any distractions?"

To just barely move an inch from where he'd slept. The impression of the sheets; the bedding, pressing into his cheek. Slumber still overtaking him. Those were the dreams he once had. Though it was a moment short-lived, he still cherished what he could get. Jean offered the man his best. One of the softest smiles that were genuinely anguish-free. His shoulder brushed his cheek as he appeared to be sheepishly consumed in the act of pretending to be caught. His laugh soon escaped as he rubbed the spot next to him and patted gently--welcoming Scott to join him. "Usually I'm beckoned by the needs of others but today? It all feels--quiet." Jean admits, trying not to worry the man too greatly but to give him a sense of ease. His own mind racing ten-times the fold of ten; and still, he'd make room to find his own nitch for himself. He draped the sheet over his shoulders and back, cuddling into the linen. The scent of Scott's aftershave overwhelmed the underlying laundry freshener. "Maybe it's a day I get to spend around The Institute. Maybe familiarize with newer faces. Take some of the academic stresses off of others." He ticks his head to the right.

"Quiet is good, right? It is for me, at least. I could afford to stop thinking all the time, you know? Especially now that you're back. Hopefully for good. I don't know if I can take another hiatus like that last one, Jeannie. I need you."

He pats Jean's leg longingly, nearly forgetting how badly he needed skin-on-skin contact with him in the time he'd been gone. "You should probably stop thinking all the time too, you know. I realize that would be more difficult for you than me, but... maybe that just means I should find something to keep your mind off, well... everything."

Scott chuckles fondly. "God, I used to be such a narc when we were kids, huh? Hopefully I've grown out of that..."

Ever since Jean came back, things between him and Scott felt a little, well.. off. Not bad off. Just different. Like the vibe shifted somehow. Jean was still Jean, and Scott was still Scott, so neither of them changed in any significant way. But after coming to terms with the distinct possibility that Jean had finally gone away for good, he once again came back. He felt glad about it, obviously, but he wondered how much of the back-and-forth with the Phoenix he could take.

But for now, he simply tried to not think about it. Appreciate the time he had with Jean while he still had it, cause who knew would could happen a day from now, or a month, or a year...

In any event, seeing Jean taking a more active leadership role beside himself with the X-Men... very sexy.
