“I began this account of the gossip with her enemies to show how important her speech has been, although it is mocked as trivial. Hatred of gossip is hatred of women talking to each other – it is generally women who do this work of love. When we gossip, we share vital information: this one is sad, this one is in love, this one is dangerous. In most families, news of birth, death, failure and achievement travels through the women. Communities of gossips nurse each other through the degradations that partners, bosses and families inflict on us. Without the love of gossips, most of us would be either dead or dead inside. § “

And I’m sure that if they were here today, these witches would be doing a lot more than striking a pose, they’d be busy protesting our dying forests, fighting the polluting of our waters, and protecting the planet. I like to think they might even have been part of The Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell or W.I.T.C.H. a radical feminist protest group whose manifesto stated witches “were the original guerrillas and resistance fighters against oppression — particularly the oppression of women — down through the ages.”

This event takes place on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded homelands of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. Unceded means that this land was never surrendered, relinquished or handed over in any way. As we organize, we also remember the historical and ongoing colonial genocide against Indigenous peoples that make it possible for us to be here as settlers. Originally wanted to find a way to give back to the people of these local communities. However, due to the military violence, lack of resources, and immediate needs of the peaceful protesters at Standing Rock in North Dakota, we have decided to send them 10% of the profits of all Radical Spirits Merchandise sold. (Anything with our logo) We will also have a donation box at the till if you wish to donate.
