Upon this current birthday I realise I failed my last birthday resolution, but I'm still here in the muck of society, as we all are, instinctively driven to make art somehow...I only have 7 months of the year left to draw cool things like I did last year and I hope I'll get to!

Chapter 26 On the Road

Link takes a quick look around. All of the horses have come to an abrupt stop and are focused on the road before them. Impa’s horse is jigging and working up a foam as she shortens her reins to try and hold him. Epona flips an ear in Impa’s direction for a second before flicking it back forward and she snorts again, feeding on the anxiety of the other horse. She shifts underneath him, and he gets ready for her to bolt. So much for spook-proof.

Impa’s horse half rears and she grabs a handful of mane. “What’s gotten into them?”

“Something we can’t see or smell.”

Liro is on Link’s right, and his mount bounces on its front end twice and then rears straight up. The guard remains mounted, barely, but when the horse comes back down, it whirls and bolts back down the road in the direction they rode in. This is the final straw for the rest of the horses and they erupt in panic, scattering.

Chapter 20: Sparring

“Why are you so angry?” [Impa] asks again as she aims a strike at his left shoulder.

“I’m tired of doing this, being this.” He surprises himself with the answer, blurting it out as his body runs on muscle memory. “I’m sick of being alone.”

He blocks her off his right shoulder.

“You’re not alone.” She dips low, her kodachi seeking his left thigh.

He stops her and steps back. “I am.”

“You push people away.” She presses his right thigh and when he deflects her, swings at waist.

He stops her again. “I do not.”

“You do.” She aims for the other side of his waist. “You’re trying to push me away now.”
